EXT. ABANDONED URBANISED AREA - NOON

Jack is on the floor, clearly in pain, and covered in blood.

NATE stands over him, clenched fists. The room is relatively
bare, but we do see a bloody corpse and a pistol with a
flashlight taped to it, just out of reach from Jack.

NATE
You're gonna pay you pathetic sack
of shit.

Jack launches himself over to his gun, grabs it and quickly

points it at Nate.

Cuts to black.

INT. SMALL BEDROOM - MORNING

Jack crouches by a bed, with a 16 year old girl, JENNA,

lying in it. Jack is injecting her with a needle. She seems
tired, and not completely in the moment. Once the vial is
empty, Jack removes the needle, and puts it away in a
briefcase, while Jenna grabs a nearby bandaid and applies it
to the wound. He walks towards the door and stops in at the
border of the room. Without looking at her, he speaks.

JACK
I've got to get some supplies. I'll
be back soon.

EXT. ABANDONED URBANISED AREA - MORNING

Jack puts on a ripped jacket, scars and mud covering it, and
then a backpack, with equal visible wear on it. On his hip
he carries a pistol with a flashlight taped to it. In the
background, ruined highrise buildings can be seen. As Jack
sets off, he walks past a makeshift grave with a photograph
tied to it. In the photo, we see a man and woman, roughly in
their mid thirties, with Jenna. The man is clearly not Jack.
On the grave is a set of dead bluebells. Jack picks them up
and throws them into a nearby bush before setting out.

EXT. FOREST - LATE MORNING

Jack is crouched down by some bluebells in a forest. He

pulls up the back of his shirt where we see a knife in its
sheath on his belt. He takes the knife and cuts some
flowers, placing them in his jacket pocket. He gets up and
walks off - we see his backpack is more full, with a plastic
bag filled with canned food tied to it.

EXT. ABANDONED URBANISED AREA - NOON

Jack is walking down a road, his bag seemingly heavy and

tiring him slightly. He walks with caution, surveying his
surroundings. Slowly, the sound of approaching cars in the
distance can be heard. Jack hears it too and turns around.
In the distance, we see two cars approaching, covered in
dirt and blood. At the sight of them Jack starts to back
away, realising what is happening. He turns and begins to
run as fast as he can, throwing his bag off the road he

bolts in the direction he was originally walking in.

We follow him as he runs, the sounds of the cars getting

louder as they approach. Jack, realising they've nearly
caught up, dives for cover. We see the cars drive past, not
seeming to notice him. Jack gulps in deep breaths, staying
in cover for a few seconds, and then begins sprinting in the
same direction that the cars were headed.

Jack slows down, crouching behind a low wall. In front of

him, we see the two cars, now parked. Next to them four men
stand, three of them wearing bits of armour and carrying
weapons, the fourth, NATE, simply carries a handgun and
wears simple clothing and is clean shaven. The fourth seems
to be the leader, standing slightly apart from them and the
others giving him their full attention. Suddenly, right in
front of Jack's cover a fifth man, TOM, comes into view,
also wearing armour and carrying a rifle. He doesn't seem to
notice Jack.

NATE
Tom! Get over here!

Tom swivels around just before he would have seen Jack, and
rejoins the group.

NATE
Listen up everybody. That fucker
and his girl are here somewhere.
Spread out and find them. If you
can, bring them to me first.

Once Nate finishes speaking the other four split off and
start moving through the area. Nate lights up a cigarette
and looks off into the distance, giving Jack the opportunity
to move. He stays low, moving from cover to cover. As he
moves through the area, it's obvious that the gang doesn't
know exactly which building Jenna and Jack stay in. Jack
makes his way to the door and lets himself in.

INT. HALLYWAY OF ABANDONED BUILDING - AFTERNOON

Jack enters the hallway, still crouched down. He sneaks

through and opens Jenna's bedroom door.

INT. SMALL BEDROOM - MORNING

Jack crouches in the doorway. Jenna is peering through the

window at the raiders outside.

JACK
(whispered)
Jenna! Get away from the window.
Jenna turns around, not having heard Jack enter.

JENNA
What's going on?

JACK
(whispered)
Shh!

JENNA
(whispered)
What's going on? Who are those
guys?

JACK
(whispered)
Pack your things, essentials only.

Jack moves across her room, staying low and grabs the
briefcase. He pulls out several of the needles and grabs a
shirt, wraps the shirt around the needles and hands them to
Jenna.

JENNA
(whispered)
Tell me what's happening.

JACK
(whispered)
We've got to go. Start packing.

JENNA
(whispered, but louder
than before)
I'm not going anywhere until you
tell me-

JACK
(whispered)
Do not make me drag you out of this
building.
EXT. ABANDONED URBANISED AREA - NOON

Jack and Jenna sneak down the street, Jack pulling Jenna
along by her hand. They spot one of the gang members further
down the street, and so they divert into another building.

INT. ABANDONED BUILDING - NOON

Jack and Jenna continue to sneak through the building. They

stop in their tracks when they hear one of the gang members
shout out.

GANG MEMBER 1
(off screen, in the
distance)
I found some beds! They were
staying here!
Jack crouches down lower, and then moves towards a closet,
opening it.

JACK
(whispers)
Get in!

JENNA
(whispers)
Jack! No!

JACK
(whispers)
Listen. These guys have come to
kill us, okay? I'm not going to let
that happen.

JENNA
(whispers)
What are you going to do?

Off screen, we hear the sound of a door opening nearby.

JACK
(whispers)
Whatever you hear, stay in here,
okay? Don't come out unless it's
me.

Jack closes the door on Jenna as she looks at him, scared.

He crouches down behind some cover as Tom enters the room.
Tom begins to search the room. We see Jack pull out the
knife from his back sheath. As Tom nears Jack's hiding spot,
Jack whirls around and stabs him in the stomach. Jack uses
his other hand to cover Tom's mouth.

JACK
Shh.

Jack slowly moves his hand off Tom's mouth and eases him
onto the ground. Jack gets up to move into the next room,
leaving Tom slumped, bleeding profusely from his stomach.

TOM
You should run.

Jack stops where he's stood and looks at Tom.

EXT. ABANDONED URBANISED AREA - NOON

Nate is playing with a fresh cigarette, and lighter, but

hasn't started smoking it yet. He sits on the hood of one of
the cars. One of the men approaches him from the house,
carrying one of Jenna's shirts.

GANG MEMBER 1
Sir we found where they were holed
up, but there's no sign of them.

INT. A DIFFERENT BUILDING - NOON

GANG MEMBER 2 rummages through a chest of drawers, in front

of a glass cabinet. He hears a noise and looks up, seeing
Jack's reflection in the glass.

EXT. ABANDONED URBANISED AREA - NOON

NATE
Did you find the drugs?

GANG MEMBER 1
Some of them, yeah, in the
briefcase.

NATE
(snatching the shirt from
him)
But you brought me this shit?

GANG MEMBER 1
I thought I'd keep it.

NATE
(throws it on the ground)
You said there were some of them,
and the case was still here?

GANG MEMBER 1
Yeah..

NATE
So they saw us coming. That means
they're still here. Now, instead of
clothes shopping, go and find them.

INT. A DIFFERENT BUILDING - NOON

GANG MEMBER 3 enters the room and sees Gang Member 2 on the
floor. He runs over to check his friend's pulse. As he's
doing so we see a knife appear at his throat.

EXT. ABANDONED URBANISED AREA - NOON

Nate is lighting up his second cigarette. He hears a gun

cock from behind him. He slowly turns to see Jack standing
there, pointing his gun at Nate, hands red with blood.

NATE
Jack.. Jackie Jackie Jackie. Come
now, put that thing down before you
hurt someone with it.

JACK
How'd you find us?

NATE
We've had scouts out for a while.
One of them spotted that cute
little button you have hiding
around here ages ago. When he told
me, I actually withheld that
information from Isaac for you.

INT. ABANDONED BUILDING - NOON

Gang Member 1 walks into the room where Jenna is hiding. He

spots Tom's body, now with his throat slit, in the corner.
From outside, we hear Nate talking.

NATE
(offscreen)
Of course, that was before you
stole from us. I didn't want to
come here, but you forced my hand.

EXT. ABANDONED URBANISED AREA - NOON

Jack and Nate are still standing in their previous

positions, Nate's hands slightly raised, Jack's gun still
pointing at Nate.

NATE
Now, how about you lower that gun,
we can talk this out like civilised
gents?

Jack raises his other hand to the gun, supporting his aim.
Suddenly, the door behind Jack opens, and Gang Member 1
comes running out.

GANG MEMBER 1
Boss! To-
Jack whirls around and shoots Gang Member 1, who falls to
the ground. Nate charges into Jack, knocking him to the
ground and sending the gun across the floor. Jack tries to
get up, but Nate kicks him in the face. Jack recoils from
the hit, landing nearly within distance of the gun. Nate
stands over him, clenched fists, as blood pours from Jack's
nose.

NATE
You're gonna pay you pathetic sack
of shit.

Jack launches himself over to his gun, grabs it and quickly

points it at Nate, but Nate moves faster and kicks Jack's
gun hand to the ground, and then punches him in the face. He
then grabs Jack by the jacket, lifting him off the ground.
NATE
You think you could steal from us?
 7.

Nate throws Jack across the courtyard, then starts walking

after him.

NATE
It's the new world Jack. Leeches
like you don't last long.

Nate kneels down over Jack and starts beating him with his
fists.

NATE
(between heavy gasps of
air after each punch)
It's. Survival. Of. The. Fittest.

INT. ABANDONED BUILDING - NOON

We once again see Tom's corpse as a shadow is cast over him

briefly.

EXT. ABANDONED URBANISED AREA - NOON

We cut back to Nate still beating Jack. We then cut to Gang

Member 1's body as a pair of feet walk past him. Nate
continues to beat Jack. We see someone pick up Jack's gun.

Nate continues to pummel Jack, who looks almost dead.

Suddenly a bullet hits Nate in the thigh. As he reacts to
the pain Jack pushes Nate off. We cut to his POV, blurry and
shakey from the pain - as his vision clears we see it was
Jenna who fired the shot.

Jenna holds the gun, looking horrified at what she's just

done. As Nate slowly picks sits up, she drops the gun out of
fear.

NATE
You fucking bitch!

Nate slowly tries to stand up and limp over. Jenna backs

away in fear. Nate pulls out his pistol and points it at
Jenna. As Nate tries to aim, Jack suddenly stands up and
grabs Nate's shoulder, stabbing him in the abdomen. Nate
looks at Jack in a mixture of shock and rage, and Jack stabs
again. Nate tries to push Jack back and raise his gun up,
which knocks the weakened Jack over, but this causes the
weakened Nate to fall on top of him.

Nate tries to recollect himself and aim his gun, once again
kneeling over Jack, but Jack stabs down between the
collarbone and shoulder, spilling Nate's blood all over
Jack. Jack uses the knife as a pivot point to push Nate off.

Nate lies on the ground next Jack. Jack gets up slowly and
kicks Nate's gun away as Nate reaches for it. Nate then
reaches for Jack, clutching at his own neck to try and stem
the bleeding. Jenna looks in horror and shock, but Jack
seems unaware of her. He drops his knife and falls to his
knees over Nate, and begins returning to Nate what Nate did

to him.

As Jack descends into mindless violence, blood covering his

bruised face, we see Jenna's look of pure horror slowly turn
into something more - not quite understanding or
forgiveness, but accepting.

JENNA
Jack? Jack!

Jack stops, fist raised ready to punch again.

JENNA
There could be more coming!

INT./EXT. ONE OF THE GANG'S CARS - AFTERNOON

Jack sits in the driver's seat of the car, hands on the

wheel. He's still coated in blood. We hear one of the doors
to the car close and Jenna comes into view in the backseat.

JACK
You got everything?

JENNA
Got everything.

JACK
Hand me the map from my bag would
you?

Jenna starts rummaging around the footwells of the car. She

comes back up and hands Jack the map. As he starts to study
it she taps his shoulder and offers him a towel. She's also
now where some Aviator goggles.

JENNA
Here. For the blood.

Jack takes it and starts scrubbing at the blood near his

mouth. He looks in the rear view mirror and sees Jenna with
the goggles on.

JACK
Where did you get those?

JENNA
I found them back here.

JACK
So they belonged to one of those
guys?

Jenna settles into her seat and leans her head against the
window.

JENNA
So did the car.

Jack looks at her in the mirror for a few seconds, slightly

worried, but then sighs and starts the engine up.
