After viewing the Academic Integrity Policy and the Common Craft: Plagiarism
Video, please respond to the following questions:

Video: http://www.commoncraft.com/video/plagiarism

1. Plagiarism is commonly referred to as

The passing off of another persons work as ones own, whether deliberate
or accidental.

2. How will student work be checked for plagiarism? (List at least two ways)

A students work can be checked for plagiarism by using plagiarism

identification software Turnitin. Turnitin determines if parts or all of a
paper come from another source. Student work will also be compared to
the work of other students attending the same course to make sure they
didnt copy off each other.

3. Sanctions for plagiarism include (list at least two possible consequences):

The Student could receive a zero on the assignment, a note on the student
record, or even an expulsion from the course.

4. What is the difference between accidental plagiarism and deliberate

plagiarism?

Accidental plagiarism is where the author uses someones ideas, research,

or words and failed to give credit to the original author, even if it was not in
their interest to present them as their own. Deliberate plagiarism is when
the Author knows that they are passing off someones words as their own.
5. How can you avoid plagiarism, while still integrating support (ideas and
quotes) in your own work?

You can avoid plagiarism by putting quotation marks around the quote,
citing original author as well as writing the name of the author at the end of
the quote. You can also summarize or paraphrase the original work as well
as using your own words.

6. Other than the written work, what other items can be plagiarized? Can you
still use these items? How?

Music, drawings, speeches, structural models, statistics can all be

plagiarized. Yes, you can use them, as long as you give credit.

7. Do some internet research and find at least one website (not listed in the
Academic Integrity Policy or on the Common Craft Video) that helped
you understand how to avoid plagiarism.
