I made the following lesson plan to go along with my Digital Storytelling Artifact
Night. This lesson is very flexible, A teacher could use this with students and family
members from grades 3-5 in the elementary school. Students will be learning to using
Voice-thread to make a digital story about artifacts that are special to them. The students
will be using Voice-thread also to show their parents the technology the students have
been using in class. As the students are finishing up with their digital story I would have
them send it to me and I would put all the students stories together so the class could
view it. The Digital Story-telling Lesson is a great time for students to interact and learn
more about each other. Along with a good time for parents to mingle and you can talk to
them all at different times. My practicum work is in fourth grade so I have used the grade
four standards while creating my lesson plan.

Teaching Timeline
Please make a very detailed step-by-step timeline for the whole activity that you can
follow
Step 0 Arrival and Preparation (4:00-4:45) Staff will arrive early to clean the
tables and put snacks and games out. They will also be preparing the desks
with the I-pads, Chrome-books, and available tablets as well as a projection
screen for all guests to see. While the time is coming close to 5 there may be
some parents and students who come early invite them to come inside and
get a snack and pick out a game to play before the Story Night.
Step 1 Beginning Snack and Games (5:00-5:30) The students and parents have
ample time to arrive on time and not feel rushed. When they do arrive, the
teacher will talk with them and have them get a snack and drink and sit at
the tables with the games. At the end of time or if all parents have already
arrived I will welcome them to clean up their snacks and head on over to the
tables with Chrome-books, tablets, and I-pads.
Step 2 Beginning of the lesson (5:30-5:45) The teacher will have already put
names down at tables so the students know where to sit and who to work
with. The teacher will have grouped children into small groups. The teacher
will demonstrate what Voice-thread is to refresh the students memories,
and to show the parents the apps their student uses in school.
Step 4 Finishing up and Sharing the Finished Voice-thread (6:20-7:00) This is the
Heather Benjamin
time that students that have finished their product may get more snack, or
play with the games until all students are done. Teachers-helpers will also
have created their own project to show the group. The teacher will have the
students sit down where they can see the projector. The class, will watch and
listen to the Voice-thread.
Step 5 Reflection (7:00-7:15) Students will be paired up with a partner and asked to
share what they liked and thought was challenging about making the Voice-
thread. They will have a couple different questions to ask and be asked that
will help them to identify anything they learned or found useful.
Step 6 Game (7:15-7:30) This is optional but is always nice to end an event with a
game. It is called Hello Match-Up. The children and adults in the classroom
with write down how to say hello in another language they either speak or
know on an index card twice and they will match them up, and one is
matched they will say hello in that language, with help from whoever wrote
it or speaks the language.
