TOLL PLAZA CAMDEN

Short description
Analysis of traffic operations at a major toll plaza.

Objective
Vissim was used to simulate the existing conditions and future scenarios of traffic
operations at the Benjamin Franklin Toll Plaza for vehicles crossing the Delaware River
from Camden, New Jersey into Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. The goal was to
evaluate the vehicle delays and throughput at the toll plaza. In addition, Vissim was used
to model intervention methods for toll plaza violators.
This model consists of four vehicle classes:
EZ-Pass vehicles
Cash Pay vehicles
EZ-Pass violators
Cash Pay violators.
Each class was assigned a different color to distinguish between them during the
simulation. EZ-Pass (brown) vehicles are not required to stop through the toll plaza. Cash
Pay (orange) vehicles are required to stop at the toll plaza. Violator vehicles (light blue
and purple) are required to either stop or pay, but do not do so in the simulation. Speeds,
volumes, traffic compositions, violator percentages, and all other Vissim input data was
collected from the field.
