On a whim...Lingles longtime, one stop gift shop

LINGLE This isnt the first time a local one-
stop gift shop, home goods and antique store
has been featured in Small Town Life in fact,
Whimsy in Lingle graced the pages of the annual
publication 19 years ago when it first opened.
Perhaps appropriately, owner Carolyn Lewis
said she began the store on a whim.
I had been designing wearable art that was
sold nationwide. Styles changed, and when I quit
that business, I took a couple years off and went
to a lot of auctions with my husband, Lewis said.
I went on a speaking trip throughout the state for
the Christian Women Club and saw a lot of eclec-
tic shops I thought if I had a shop, Id call it
Whimsy. It just popped into m my mind.
Soon after her trip, Lewis secured a vacant
building on Main Street in Lingle. The next year,
she opened Whimsy 2 across the street.
(Whimsy) has a lot of new items, as well as
antiques, Lewis said. I import a lot of things
from Turkey, Asia and Mexico that are different
from everything else around. We carry original
art, prints and pottery from all over the world.
Whimsy 2 has mostly larger items, like furni-
ture.
Lewis also offers home dcor, jewelry, col-
lectibles, Native American and world music,
childrens DVDs, books, clothing, hats, lamps,
furniture cleaner, and more. Her best sellers are
musical clocks from Japan.
They are my main feature Ive sold them the
most over the years, Lewis said.
Whimsy features six rooms jam-packed with
unique finds, while Whimsy 2 is two rooms full
of quality furniture and other home dcor.
I like to offer things that make your home
more fun and interesting, she said. And I try to
keep (prices) really reasonable as reasonable as
I can.
Whimsys new hours are Tuesday through Fri-
day, from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., and some Satur-
days. Lewis accepts cash or checks.
