Reflection:

My curriculum map is based on the inner workings of the Boys and Girls Club in

Tempe. I have been working with the associate director to implement a healthy cooking

class within the club. Within the next six months we hope to have approval to implement

the class full time and even award a budget. Hopefully, this will be approved by quarter

2 so I could stop funding the program out of pocket. This program stresses the idea to

make healthier decisions concerning what you eat, and we hope it can translate to

healthier decisions in the childrens overall life. We work with students from lower social

economical classes and offer extra guidance as a leader and mentor. My approaches

give children the idea that they can take matters into their own hands and even if thing

seem out of their control, they can control their health at least. The idea is they will

strive to make healthier and better decisions, given they are only aloud in the program

on a strict behavioral agreement signed by the parent, student, teacher, and the

associate director. Given these children come from high stress environments, this is one

controlled aspect that they themselves have the opportunity to be apart of. The overall

hopes is that the children learn to be more productive students.
