2. How did this learning relate to the knowledge (what must you know), skills (what must you be able to do) and dispositions (attitudes, beliefs,
enthusiasm) required of a technology facilitator or technology leader? (Refer to the standards you selected above. Use the language of the PSC
standards in your answer and reflect on all 3knowledge, skills, and dispositions.)
Knowledge - To prepare the teachers for working effectively with the student, they had to agree to learn fifteen high use words before the assistive
technology plan was implemented. Therefore, as the primary contact for Student X, I had to have the knowledge of the assistive technology to be used and
an understanding of American Sign Language to teach the teachers the fifteen high use words. My knowledge and understanding of the site, as well as, the
student and how she interacts with others was essential to effectively implementing, facilitating, and leading the assistive technology.
Skills - I demonstrated various skills through my knowledge and participation in the planning and implementation of the assistive technology needed as
demonstrated by the students IEP. The skills included by ability to determine the best assistive technology site for communicating with a deaf student,
assistive technologies for her other needs (calculators and stools), and how to best prepare her teachers for using the site effectively. By working with all
teachers and the technology team who would service the device I demonstrated skills of an effective technology facilitator and leader.
Dispositions - This field experience required me to have a positive and open disposition to learning a new technology and way of communicating to provide
the best learning experience for a student at Fitzgerald High School. Through a positive believe that all teachers could work together to create learning
conditions for growth through technology, goals were designed and set for a deaf student at Fitzgerald High School. My positive character and disposition
through the planning and implementation stayed consisted to demonstrate the importance of providing the best for all student.
3. Describe how this field experience impacted school improvement, faculty development or student learning at your school. How can the impact be
assessed? This field experience improved student learning through increasing the students and her teachers communication with one another. Student X
was the only deaf student in the school and she was not provided with a full-time interpreter for her daily classroom needs. None of the teachers at the
school were certified in American Sign Language and therefore the work completed for my field experience through the assistive technology website,
Signing Savvy, allowed for greater means of communication for both the student and her teachers. The student could better understand the classroom
content and grow in her daily living and life skills certificate she would be obtaining at graduation. The impact of the field experience can be assessed
through the growth of the individual student and the growth in signing of each teacher that the student worked with as previously they were not aware of any
signs to use as a means of effective communication.
