Grade and Topic: First Grade Math Fact Families Length of Lesson: 100 mins.
LESSON OBJECTIVE:
Given the Fact Families YouTube video, students will answer a fact families questionnaire with 100%
accuracy.
Given three numbers, students will create a Christmas present fact family with 100% accuracy.
STANDARDS ADDRESSED:
Tennessee State Standard 1.OA.C.5- Add and subtract within 20 using strategies such as counting on,
counting back, making 10, using fact families and related known facts, and composing/ decomposing
numbers with an emphasis on making ten (e.g., 13-4=13-3-1=10-1=9 or adding 6+7 by creating the
known equivalent 6+4+3=10+3=13).
ISTE Standard #4- Students use critical thinking skills to plan and conduct research, manage projects,
solve problems, and make informed decisions using appropriate digital tools and resources.

MATERIALS:

Fact family questionnaire
Microsoft Word
Technology will be used in this lesson to review the fact family lesson that was discussed last week.
Students will view the YouTube fact families video on iPads and use the information learned in the
video to answer a questionnaire. Once they answer the questions, they will complete a Christmas present
fact families box that they construct on Microsoft Word.
Closure:
10 minutes: Now that we have done two lessons on fact families, you all should know how to
do these well enough to have a test. We will be having a test on Friday. To get ready for the test, lets go
over the answers for the questionnaire you all filled out after watching the fact family video. (go over
answers for questionnaire, letting students ask questions)
ASSESSMENT EVIDENCE:
There will be two formal assessments in this lesson. These assessments should be completed with 100%
accuracy. (A score of all threes.) The first assessment will be the Fact Family Video Questionnaire. If
students get more than two answers wrong they will need to redo these questions and provide the correct

MODIFICATIONS:
I am aware that modifications will be made for students who did not master the objectives and for those
ready for enrichment. However, modifications are not covered in this course and are not part of this
particular lesson.
