Description of the artifact and how it meets the standard and criteria:

My artifact is a picture of my students playing a math card game that I created.

In this game, students draw one card from each pile. Next, students need to add the
values of both cards. The black cards represent positive numbers, and the red cards
represent negative numbers. This artifact of the game meets the standard because
using math games is an instructional strategy that is appropriate to the content area. I
use several math games in my classroom that are aligned to the Iowa Core and district
standards. My students enjoy math games and become more engaged and motivated
to learn when they are playing them.

Reflection on the artifact:

Using math games in my classroom is a highly effective instructional strategy for me.
Several of my students are kinesthetic learners. They greatly enjoy learning the content
in a hands-on way. I find that my students are more focused and positive about
learning when I can make the content more exciting. My students are able to retain
more information through educational games and truly enjoy the format of the content.
Math games allow for practice and repetition of almost any math skill.
