ve deerlendirilmesi olanana kavumutur.
Derneimizin ksa srede vazgeilmez bir konuma
ulamasnda gerekletirdii faaliyetlerin yan sra
kompozit sektrnde faaliyet gsteren kompozit
reticisi, hammaddeci, tedariki ve akademisyenleri
bnyesinde barndran ynetim yaps bu baarsnn
en nemli nedeni olmutur. Derneimizin ynetimi
7 kompozit sanayicisi, 2 hammadde reticisi ve 2 de
tedariki yeden olumaktadr. Ynetim Kurulumuzun
daha nceki dnemde olduu gibi nmzdeki
dnemde de tm sektr kucaklayacak biimde
almalarn srdrme kararllnda olduunu
sizlerle paylamak isterim. Ynetim Kurulumuzun
sektrmze ve lkemize hayrl olmasn dilerim.

The 7Th Ordinary General Assembly of The Composite Manufacturers Association Took Place

The 7th Ordinary General Assembly of the Composite Manufacturers Association took place at Teknopark Istanbul
on 23 January, 2017. The General Assembly meeting began with a minute of silence and respect, and the national
anthem, followed by the election of the Presidency Council. After the election of Prof. Ahmet nal as the President
of the Council, Mr. Hseyin Gl as the Vice President of the Council, and Ms. Sevin Tongn as the Clerk, the
Chairman of the Board of Directors, Mr. ekib Avdagi gave a speech summarizing our operations in year 2016.

After the unanimous approval of the Operations Report and the Report by the Audit Committee, the Board of
Directors and the Audit Committee were released from their responsibilities in separate votes.

The elections led to the following composition of the Board of Directors and the Audit Committee in unanimous
agreement.

Manufacturers Association
On 12 December, 2016, the Association organized
a members meeting at Cemile Sultan Woods of the
Istanbul Chamber of Commerce, Educational and
Social Services Foundation, to provide the venue for
a general review about the industry, the prevailing
economic outlook and the regulations, obligations, and
practices concerning our industry.
The meeting began with a presentation by Mr. ekib
Avdagi, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of our
Association, and proceeded with a presentation on the
problems of the industry, by Mr. smail Darcan from

Paksoy from Duratek, Mr. Tolga Kutlu from Omnis
Kompozit, and Mr. Bar Paki from Polin gave

remarks and comments by interested members was
followed by a dinner.
During the dinner, the members continued to
deliberate on the issues discussed in the meeting. We
would like to extend our gratitude to all contributing
members for this event which we deem most
important for our industry.

26th PlastEurasia Fair Took Place
PlastEurasia - 26th International Istanbul Plastics
Industry Fair, organized through cooperation by PAGEV
(Turkish Plastics Industry Foundation) and TYAP, was
held with and saw visits by industry professionals from
a number of countries from Far East and Middle East
to Europe, from Central Asia to the Balkans.
Having opened its gates on December 7, for the 26th
time, PlastEurasia Istanbul 2016 provided the venue
for the representation of 990 firms from 41 countries,
and organized visitor groups from 26 countries
(Azerbaijan, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Morocco,
Palestine, Georgia, Croatia, Iraq, Iran, Kazakhstan,
Kosovo, Lebanon, Macedonia, Egypt, Moldova,
Uzbekistan, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Slovenia, Sudan,
Syria, Tajikistan, Ukraine, Jordan, Greece), underlining
an ever more colorful multinational structure. Our
association was also represented in its stand at the
fair where state-of-the-art products from plastics
machines to chemicals and raw materials, machinery
supply industry products to heat control devices and
templates were on display.

Industry Consultation Meeting

A meeting to review the state of affairs was held at the
Facilities of the Union of Chambers and Commodity
Exchanges of Turkey, at 10:30 on 23 December, 2016, with the
attendance of members from 12 Industry Assemblies. From
the government side, Mr. Mehmet Hamdi Yldrm, the Deputy
Undersecretary for the Reform Monitoring and Investment
Coordination reporting to Mr. Nurettin Canikli, the Deputy
Prime Minister, along with his team attended the meeting.
The industry assembly representatives taking the floor at the
meeting provided information on the global trends in their
sectors, and commented on the priorities of government
reform concerning the sector, as well as the state of the
industry in Turkey.
Attending the meeting on behalf of the Plastics, Rubber,
and Composite Industry Assembly, the Secretary General
smail Hakk Hacaliolu, accompanied by Mr. Yavuz Erolu,
provided comments about our sector, on the issues noted
above.
The cordial and warm meeting was concluded upon the
hearing of remarks by all sectors.

COUNCIL
"8th KSP CHEMICAL INDUSTRY DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL"
was organized at Etap Altnel Otel Ankara, on 15-16
December, 2016.
Executives and experts from industry organizations
representing the chemical industry and its sub-fields, and
which are members of the Chemical Industry Platform to
which we belong and which is currently headed by the
Rubber Association, such as the Association of Paint
Industry (BOSAD), Istanbul Chemicals and Chemical Products
Exporters Association (IKMIB), Rubber Association, Chemical,
Oil, Rubber and Plastics Industry Employers Union of Turkey
(KIPLAS), Composite Industrialists Association, Turkish
Plastics Industry Foundation (PAGEV), Plastics Industrialists
Association (PAGDER), and Chemical Industrialists
Association of Turkey (TKSD), as well as the representatives
of the firms from the industry met at the 8th Chemical
Industry Development Council held in Ankara, to discuss the
steps to be taken for the future of the chemical industry..
The Council took start on Thursday, 15 December, 2016,
with the opening speeches by Mr. Timur Erk, the Chairman
of TKSD's Board of Directors and representing the Rubber
Association, Mr. Murat Akyz, the Chairman of IKMIB's Board
of Directors, Mr. Grsel Baran the Chairman of ATO's Board
of Directors and representing OSTIM, and Prof. Ersan Aslan,
the Undersecretary to the Minister of Science, Industry, and
Technology.
The first day saw presentations by Mr. hsan Necipolu from
DOW firm, Mr. Hakan Kzartc, the Deputy Director General of
the Ministry of Economy, General Directorate of Exports, and
Mr. Ahmet Faik Bitlis from IKMIB, in the first session titled
The Impact of Foreign Trade on the Chemical Industry from
an International Perspective, chaired by Mr. Murat Akyz, the
Chairman of IKMIB's Board of Directors.
The 2nd session titled Investment, Production, and
Clustering in the Chemical Sector was chaired by Mr. Timur
Erk, the Chairman of TKSD's Board of Directors, and saw
presentations by Mr. Mustafa Ylmaz from the firm AKSA,
Mr. Emin Sadk Aydn, the Director General of the Sectors
and Coordination under the Ministry of Development, Mr.
Mustafa Erdnmez, Senior Project Director from BTYDTA
Inv., Mr. Haluk Erceber from the firm Organik Kimya, Mr.
Mustafa Satlm, the General Director of EIA from the
Ministry of Environment and Urbanization, Mr. Seluk
Denizligil from BASF, and Mr. Cemalettin Domu from
the General Directorate of Hazardous Goods and Combined
Transportation Regulations under the Ministry of Transport,
Maritime Affairs, and Communications.
The 3rd session titled 2023 Labor Planning: Training,
Professional Qualification and Certification in the Chemical
Industry, chaired by Mr. Ahmet Yiitba, the Chairman of
BOSAD's Board of Directors, on the other hand, provided the
venue for presentations by Ms. ennur etin, Department
Director of Social Stakehholders and Projects from the
Ministry of Education, Ms. Yaprak Akay Zileli from MYK
Professional Standards Department of the Professional
Qualifications agency, Ms. Saadet Ceylan from KIPLAS, and
Mr. Mustafa Bagan, the Secretary General of TKSD.
The 4th session held on the 2nd day, with the title Assessment
of the Investment-Based Subsidy System for 2017, chaired by
Mr. Yavuz Cabbar, the Secretary General of Ankara Chamber
of Industry, on the other hand, was enriched by presentations
by Mr. brahim Klaslan, Director General of Industry from
the Ministry of Science, Industry, and Technology; Mehmet
Yurdal ahin (Ph.D.), the Deputy Director General of Subsidy
Practices and Foreign Capital from the Ministry of Economy,
and Mr. Orhan etinkaya, Division Director of Chemicals from
the Ministry of Science, Industry, and Technology.
CNN Economy Director Mr. Emin apa's brief but widely
acclaimed speech and presentation titled "Science and
Chemistry" concluded the Council.

RTM Fabric and Carbon Woven Technical Textiles at JEC
World 2017, Paris
At JEC World 2017, Paris, METYX Composites (Hall 6, Booth
H6) is showcasing its latest high performance Eglass, aramid
and carbon fibre technical textile products in its range of RTM,
multiaxial and woven fabrics, as well as promoting the expanded
production capacity and kitting service for fabrics, cores and
vacuum consumables now available from its factory in Hungary.
METYCORE FS (Fire Shield) and the newest product develop-
ment, METYCOREMAX FS (Fire Shield), will be shown on the
METYX Composites stand; both fire retardant, RTM reinforce-
ment fabric grades are compatible with polyester, vinyl ester and
epoxy resins. Another new product being promoted during JEC
World 2017 is METYX Composites new range of webbed carbon
fibre (CF) woven fabrics. These two new product additions to the
METYX Composites range of glass and carbon technical fabrics
for moulding composite parts, both combine higher mechanical
performance application requirements with key processing
benefits to meet the high productivity needs of manufactures in
the automotive, transportation, marine, rail, wind energy and
industrial markets.
New METYCOREMAX FS
METYCOREMAX FS is being showcased for the first time at JEC
World 2017 as part of a pre-launch, following several successful
long term trials over the last 12 months with a few selected cus-
tomers. Samples can be ordered for new customer trials during
the show. Aimed primarily at the rail sector, both METYCORE
FS and METYCOREMAX FS are halogen free, sandwich design,
stitched glass fabrics with a fire retardant core. These additions
to the METYCORE range of RTM reinforcements have been
developed in-house by METYX Composites R & D team to meet
the EN 45 545 fire standard, now the European cross boarder
rail industry standard for composites used in rolling stock. To
validate the FR properties of METYCORE FS and METYCOREMAX
FS, ATH filled and reinforced UP resin laminate samples have
been submitted to an EN approved test house. Independent
testing is in progress, covering all the stringent fire, smoke and
toxic fumes (FST) aspects of the EN 45 545 fire safety regulation.
Results from the EN test house are expected soon after JEC.
Both METYCORE FS and METYCOREMAX FS will be produced at
the METYX Composites factory in Istanbul, Turkey, available as
standard in the same sizes as are offered for METYCORE RTM
glass fabrics, ranging from 200M/ 180 FS Core/ 200M up to
900M/ 250 FS Core/ 900M; customised fabrics with additional
glass layers, surface veils and biaxial skins will also be made to
order. For manufacturers of composite rail parts using vacuum
infusion techniques, both METYCORE FS and METYCOREMAX FS
offer converters proven quality and processing benefits, being
part of the long established RTM fabrics developed specifically
for resin transfer moulding (RTM). All METYCORE fabrics have
high drapability for precise dry layup, and during injection the
FS fabric also enables rapid resin flow throughout the mould
for quality and consistency, and to optimise productivity by
reducing fill times, so lowering overall production costs.
New Webbed Carbon Fibre Woven Fabrics
A webbed Carbon woven fabric is the other new addition to
the range of carbon woven products manufactured by METYX
Composites, which is also being showcased for the first time
at JEC World 2017. As the name suggests, this webbed
fabric includes the addition of a fine layer of thermoplas-
tic coating, which resembles a spiders web, applied as a
covering to the surface of the woven fabric. The addition of
the thermoplastic web coating stabilizes the woven fabric,
making it less prone to deforming, which is a critical factor
for a woven fabric during layup.
This web coating, which is uniformly applied and varied accord-
ing to the fabric areal weight, ensures the stabilization of fibres
during the cutting process, which results in clean cut, fringe
free fabric edges. Thanks to its elastic nature, the webbed
carbon woven fabric has very good drapeability, essential for
complex parts production, along with its thermoformable
structure enabling the preform process.
Expanded Production Facilities
Over the last two years, METYX Composites has made major
investments in its Hungarian production facilities in Kaposvar
to expand capacity and improve the services offered, especially
to EU customers. METYX Composites Hungary now manufac-
tures: high-performance multiaxial E-glass, carbon fibre and
hybrid reinforcements. Uur stnel, co-director for METYX
Composites explains: We started production in Hungary in
2015 with one multiaxial machine. Today we have three multi-
axial machines with an installed capacity of over 3000 tonnes.
In Hungary we are now producing both glass and carbon fibre
fabrics. In response to our EU customers, we also invested in
new equipment and skilled people so that we can now provide
a make to order kitting service for fabrics and foam cores
from our plant in Hungary. In mid-2016, METYX Composites
also announced expansion plans, now well underway, to
double the production facilities at its main manufacturing centre

Trkiye kompozit sektr orta ve byk lekli 180
irket, ksmen kompozit ii yapan 700-800 irket,
yaklak 8000 alan ile katma deeri yksek
rnler reten bir sektr konumundadr.
Bugn gelinen noktada Trkiye kompozit malzeme
pazar 1,4 milyar Avro ve 265.000 tonluk bir
hacme ulam bulunmaktadr. Kompozit sektr
tm dnyada olduu gibi lkemizde de ikame
malzemelerden pay alarak bymektedir.
Kompozit sektr Trkiyede Avrupa ve
Dnya byme orannn zerinde bir byme
gstermektedir. Getiimiz yllarda dnemin
ekonomik durumuna bal olarak Trkiyede 8%-
12% aras bir byme grlmtr. 2016 ylnda
gerekleen byme ise 6% olmutur.
Dnyada bir Gelimilik Kriteri olarak kabul edilen
kii bana den kompozit tketim miktarlarna
bakldnda, lkemizin nnde nemli frsatlarn
ve olanaklarn olduu ortaya kmaktadr. yle ki,
Dnyada 4-10 kg. arasnda bir dalm izleyen bu
miktar lkemizde 3,4 kg. dzeyindedir. Dnyada
7,6/kg. olan ortalama fiyat seviyesi de lkemizde
5,3/kg. dzeyindedir. Gerek kii ba tketim
miktar ve gerekse de Trkiyedeki ortalama fiyat
lkemiz iin nmzdeki dnemde avantaj olarak
deerlendirilmektedir.

olarak yllk %5lik bir byme ile 80 milyar Avroluk
bir deere ulamas beklenmektedir. Deersel
bymenin Kuzey Amerika ve Avrupada %4, Asya
ve dnyann geri kalan blgelerinde %7 dzeyinde
olmas beklenmektedir.

granller ve peletler.
3. Son rn retimi: nihai kompozit malzemeden
oluan rnler.
Bugn tm dnyada en yaygn olarak kullanlan
takviye malzemeleri Cam Elyaf(86%) ve Karbon
Elyaf(12%) lkemizde retilmektedir. Reinelerden
ise Doymam Polyester Reinesi ve Vinyl Ester
reine lkemizde retilirken Epoxy Reineler
ile Termoplastik Reineler ithal edilmektedir.
Reinelerin hammaddelerinin ise son derece az bir
blm lkemizde retilirken nemli bir blm
yurtdndan tedarik edilmektedir. Kompozit
retiminde kullanlan teknik tekstillerin retiminin
lkemizde yaygnlamas ile birlikte bu alanda da
sektr tm ihtiyacn yurtiinden karlayabilme
noktasna gelmitir. Rakamsal olarak bugn
kompozit sektr yaklak 250 milyon Avroluk bir
ihracat yaparken 250 milyon Avroluk da ithalat
yapmaktadr.
Sektr ihtiya duyduu kimyasal hammaddeleri
ithal ederken, gerek lkemizde retilen takviye
malzemeleri ve reineler ile teknik tekstillerin
ve bitmi rnlerin ihracat ile d ticarette bir
dengeye kavumu ve bugn dnya apnda i
yapan firmalar ile de uluslararas alanda adndan
sz edilen bir konuma ulamtr. Nitekim bu
gelimenin en somut rnei olarak Trkiye,
sektrn uluslararas en nemli bulumas olan
12-14 Mart 2013 tarihleri arasnda Pariste yaplan
JEC 2013 Paris fuarnn Onur lkesi olarak ilan
edilmitir.
Kompozit sektr dorudan ve dolayl olarak
ihracat yapmaktadr. rettii hammaddeleri, sanayi
ara mallarn ve son rnleri aldklar ihaleler ve
projeler erevesinde dorudan ihra eden sektr
ayrca bu rnleri ihra edilen her otomobil, otobs,
tekne, kvet v.b. rnlerin ierisinde dolayl olarak
da ihra etmektedir. Sektr esas olarak Avrupa
lkelerine, Rusyaya, Trki Cumhuriyetlere, Orta
Dou ve Kuzey Afrikaya ihracat yapmaktadr.

Ortadou'daki siyasi ve ekonomik sorunlar firmalar
olumsuz etkilemitir. Bu lkelerde i yapan veya
bu lkelere ihracat yapan firmalar yeni araylara
girerek toparlanma srecinde olan Avrupa
pazarlarna ynelmilerdir. pazarda hissedilen dierleri (10-15%) eklinde bir sralama varken
durgunluk ve kurdaki dalgalanmalar sektr
ok olumsuz etkilemitir. zellikle polyester ve
termoplastik reine hammaddelerinin tedarikinde

Bir lkedeki kompozit pazar o lkenin ekonomik
gelimilik dzeyi ile ilikilidir. Kuzey Amerika ve
Avrupa deer olarak, hacim olarak elde ettikleri
paylardan daha fazlasna sahiptirler. Bunun temel
nedeni ise Kuzey Amerika ve Avrupada katma
deeri yksek rnlerin daha sklkla retilmesidir.
Endstriyel proseslere bakldnda ise u durum
ortaya kmaktadr. Kuzey Amerika ve Avrupa
pazarnda enjeksiyon prosesleri (40-45%), srekli
prosesler (20-25%), el yatrmas (15-20%), ve
Asyada ise el yatrmas ve enjeksiyon prosesleri
30%ar pay sahibidirler.
hepsinde ayn lde Ar-Ge faaliyetleri planlandn
ve bu faaliyetler iin btelerinden fon ayrdklarn
sylemek olduka zordur. Fakat sektrn gelimesi
iin lider konumdaki kurulular bu konuda daha
ciddi faaliyetler yrtmektedirler. O nedenle
firmalara tavsiyemiz Ar-Ge faaliyetlerine yeterli
kaynak aktarm yaparak srekli geliime nem
vermeleridir.
Bir dier tavsiyemiz ise bu aamadan sonra
sektrde faaliyet gsteren firmalarn, dikkat etmesi
gereken en nemli husus, salanm olan kalite
seviyesinin taviz vermeden korunmas olmaldr.
Youn rekabet grmekte olduumuz bu yllarda
sektrde faaliyet gsteren firmalarn maliyetlerde
avantaj salamak adna asla kaliteden taviz
vermemesi gerekmektedir. Bu konuda yaplacak
olan hatalar yalnzca o hatay yapan kurulua
deil tm sektre ve malzemeye fatura edilmekte
olduundan dolay sektrdeki irili ufakl tm

mukavemetlere sahip, daha ada zmler
sunan kompozit malzeme alternatiflerini
aramalarnn hem kendileri hem de lke ekonomisi
asndan yararl olaca grndeyiz. Bugn
tm dnyada gerek havaclk ve uzay sektrnde
gerekse de otomotiv sektrnde enerji ve fosil
yakt kullanmnn azalmas tamamen kompozit
malzemelerin bu sektrlere penetrasyonu ile
doru orantl olarak gelimitir. Bu srecin hemen
hemen tm sektrlere girdi veren ve zm reten
bir sektr olan kompozit sektr lehine daha da
gelieceine inanmaktayz.

ASSESSMENT OF YEAR 2016 FOR THE
COMPOSITE SECTOR IN TURKEY, AND
EXPECTATIONS FOR YEAR 2017
Composite sector has enjoyed a long term development
over the past 30 years as a result of the global economic
growth and its ability to have an impact on ley sectors
including building and construction, wind energy, space
and aviation, automotive etc.
The composite material market in the world today has
reached a volume with a capacity of 66 billion Euros and
8,7 million tons. Between 2010 and 2015, composite
sector has attained a worldwide growth rate of 5-6% in
terms of value and 4% in terms of volume on the basis
of processed final product.
The composite sector in Turkey is one generating
products with substantial added value, and operates
with a firm count of 180 medium and large scale
enterprises, and 700-800 firms engaged partly in
composite business, employing in total an approximate
of 8000 workers.
Today, Turkish composite materials market achieved
a volume of 265,000 tons of products, worth EUR 1.4
billion. In parallel to the wider global trends, in Turkey
the composite sector grows on the basis of market
share acquired in substitute materials.
Composite sector in Turkey enjoys a greater growth rate
that the overall growth in Europe and the world. A growth
rate of 8-12% was attained in Turkey over the last years
in close connection with the existing economic conditions.
In 2016, however, the growth was limited to 2%.
Composite market enjoyed the highest growth rates
in China in parallel with the economic development
of the country. The rate of composite material use in
Space and Aviation sector has increased dramatically.
The rapid increase in the use of composite materials
in wind energy sector enabled this sector to become
one of the major sectors within composite sectors.
The development rate of thermoplastics surpassed
that of thermosets a result of which the share of
thermoplastics in composite sector increased. The ratio
of injection processes to hand lay-up steadily increased
and the use of hand lay-up techniques was limited
mostly to the production of bulky pieces.
1. The growth of composite sector generally outcompete
global economic growth. This trend will continue in the
coming years.
2. It is estimated that composite sector will enjoy a
volume with a capacity of 10 million tons in the next five
years with a 4% growth. The yearly development rates
will be;
- 2% in North America
- 4% in Europe
- 7% in Asia

- 6% in the rest of the world.
This variety in the development will mean that the
industry will move from North America and Europe to
Asia and the rest of the world.
The development of composite sector will vary
according to the areas of implementation. The growth
in maritime, building and construction and consumer
goods is estimated to be around 0-2%, whereas the
growth in Electrical and Electronics, pipe and vessel,
transportation, space and aviation is estimated to be
around 3-7%. On the basis of an optimistic estimate, the
yearly growth in Wind Energy sector will be as much as
15-20%.
3. It is also estimated that composite sector will reach
a value level of 80 billion Euros in the next five years
with a 5% growth. The growth in terms of value will be
around 4% in North America and Europe and around
7% in Asia and the rest of the world.
4. The rate use composite material use in various
industries has reached a certain state of balance: 65%
in Wind Energy, 50% in maritime sector, 35% electrical
and electronics sector and 13% in consumer goods.
The composite use in other industries will continue to
increase with a growing share in alternative materials.
The estimations with regard to the increase of the share
of composite materials in these industries are presented
below:
- From 9% to 12% in space and aviation sector,
- From 6% to 10% in Building and Construction sector,
- From 1% to 2% in Pipe and Vessel sector.
The composite sector in Turkey is expected to grow by
5% in 2017. If regional stability coupled with stability
in the Middle East can be achieved in 2016, alongside
Europe showing once again signs of economic vitality,
the export performance of our producers will only grow.
We believe that the efforts of the players in the sector
in developing new projects and diversifying the export
markets will contribute to an even better performance
in 2017, through positive returns of such efforts.

A Special Fitting for Garabogaz Fertilizer Plant in
Turkmenistan
Superlit manufactured a special DN3700 mm flange
which will connect the sea water intake pipeline to the
pumping station of Garabogaz Fertilizer Plant which will
be the biggest fertilizer plant in Turkmenistan.
The rib around the piece provided with increased adher-
ence between the concrete and pipe passing through
the concrete wall.
The sea water intake pipeline consists of 1900 meter
long DN 3700 mm GRP pipes. The DN250 and DN125
chlorination pipes that pass though this DN 3700 mm
pipeline will be connected to the branches that are fabri-
cated into this special flange.
This special design developed by Superlit provides
leak-tightness and ease of installation.
The outside diameter of this extraordinary flange is 4200
mm. It is 4,55m long and weighs 10 tons. It has been
manufactured in Superlit Dzce Plant and delivered to
Turkmenistan.
The project has started in 2015 and scheduled to
become operational in 2018. 3 km DN3700 and DN3100
pipes of the project have already been delivered by
Superlit.

Field tests of Aydn Koarl - Baaras Irrigation Project are Successfully Ongoing

Within the scope of Aydn - Koarl Baaras Irrigation Project, 23 km of DN3000 PN6-10 bar and 706m DN3400 PN4
bar pipes have been installed and the field tests have started on the finished section.

During the tests, 1,5 times the pipelines working pressure has been applied. The field tests have been proceeded
with the presence of the client DSI (State Hydraulic Works) and successfully completed.

The project aims to supply water through 31,5 km DN3000 DN3400 pipeline from ine Dam for the irrigation of

lkalems Second Plant

1957 was the year in which lkalem A.. ventured into
the composites industry, as the first local polyester
resin producer of Turkey, using the lkester brand.
Having begun operations with polyester resin for
general purposes, the firm expanded its product
range in short order, thanks to its R&D laboratory and
capable production line, and became a reliable solution
provider for the players in the composites sector.
lkalem A.. began production with a plant
in Kemerburgaz, but, taking into account the
development and logistics of the sector, invested
in 1997 in a new plant in Tuzla Paint and Varnish
Organized Industrial Zone, and opened its current plant
once the construction was completed in year 2000.
After a short while in which both plants remained
in production, its manufacturing operations were
completely moved to Tuzla plant from 2001 on.
Continuous investments to respond to ever growing
needs led to the increase of the plants capacity from
1500 tons/month in 2001 to its current level of 3000
tons/month. lkalem is renown as a producer of
high added value and high quality products, and its
investments into the plant in Tuzla had always served
further progress in that dimension.
2010 saw commencement of joint production with
Reichhold. A rapid expansion of the product range
helped increase the production volume in parallel.
The increase in the demand both for lkester branded
products in line with the requirements of the industry,
as well as from the firm Reichhold, reached to a
production volume level difficult to achieve at the
current site, making it necessary to invest in a new
plant.
Extensive but quick research in potential investment
sites culminated in the decision to build the second
plant on a total area of 20 acres, providing an indoors
space of 7 acres, in the 1st Organized Industrial Zone
of Sakarya, at Arifiye. Work is in progress to ensure
quick commencement of production at the new
plant. Intending to maintain the production lines for
its boutique offerings at Tuzla plant, lkalem plans to
assign priority to the production of Reichhold products
and PVA-based glues at Sakarya plant once the latter
commences operations in early 2018. The general-
purpose resin production at the new plant is intended
to make the firm a household name in this area as
well.

Reinforced Acrylic Resins
Thermoformed plastic sheets have been used for
manufacturing bathtubs, shower trays and jacuzzis
for many years. Acrylic (PMMA) sheets are widely
preferred due to their good surface profile, UV
resistance, color depth and easy formability properties.
Recently, sheets with a combination of PMMA and
ABS (Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene) have increased
popularity. Besides the cost advantage, ABS provides
good impact resistance properties. However, the use
of ABS raises a challenge of adhesion with polyester
resin. Because of this challenge, the resin used for
this application has to be specially formulated with
increased adhesion on ABS.
Production process of bathtubs and shower trays can
be simply defined as;
1. Thermoforming
2. Lamination
3. Trimming
Thermoforming
Thermoforming is the first phase of production,
where pre-heated sheets are placed on the mold and
thermoformed with the help of vacuum. These molds
should be produced with a high quality polyester resin
that resists high temperatures. With its isophthalic
acid and special glycol combination, BRE 315 resin
has long been used for making vacuum molds for
thermoforming.
Before thermoforming, sheets must be carefully
checked to make sure that they are clean and free
of any contamination. Following the thermoforming,
corners and edges of the shells might have reduced
thickness. These thin areas can cause poor surface,
wrinkling or poor adhesion after lamination. Therefore,
the shells must be checked for thickness before
lamination.
Lamination
In the lamination step, usually resin and chopped
fibers are sprayed with a spray-up machine onto the
shells. At this point, choice of resin, fiber, hardener,
fillers and shop temperature are very important.
The resin used in lamination must have excellent
adhesion both on PMMA and ABS. In addition to our
standard acrylic backing resin range, BRE 660TPW
exhibits excellent adhesion on ABS and PMMA. Boytek
Technical Department provides technical assistance
in order to have our customers use our resin at
maximum performance. If required, our laboratories
have the capability to modify existing resins and
create a custom product to meet customers specific
requirements.
Filled or non-filled resins are generally used in the
lamination. Although we recommend the use of
non-filled resin in order to achieve best performance,
most of the industry prefers filled resin systems. The
type and amount of fillers have a great impact on the
performance of the resin, hence proper choice of fillers

is important. Calcium carbonate is the most widely
preferred filler. Generally, it can be mixed into resins
at a ratio of 25-50%. For flame retardant properties
aluminumtrihydrate (ATH) can be used. We can list the
advantages and disadvantages of fillers as follows:
Cuts costs
Slows down curing time
Increases rigidity
Creates fiber wetting issues
Lowers shrinkage
Might affect adhesion
Offers better surface quality
Fillers obtained from different suppliers may have
different properties, therefore we strongly advice that
every filler must be carefully evaluated before use.
Calcium carbonate from different suppliers may give
different viscosity and cure characteristics. Fillers
must be kept in their original packaging tightly closed,
because they attract humidity.
If an unfilled resin is used, the fillers must be added
into the resin slowly. A Cowles type, high speed
dissolver is suitable for mixing the fillers. Temperature
may increase during mixing, so care must be taken
to observe maximum temperature of 35C. After the
addition of fillers, resin should be mixed slowly until
it cools down to 20-25C. Resin in the daily tank must
be stirred at slow speed from time to time to avoid
settling of the fillers. If the resin is supplied with fillers,
it must be homogenized before use.
Spray-up machine that is used for lamination must be
checked daily for any clogging of the hoses, pressure
and chopper. Boytek products contain a blue dye that
vanishes after the addition of MEK peroxide. This way
the operator makes sure that the MEKP supply is okay.
Before lamination, the PMMA sheets must be at room
temperature. If the shells are stored outside or in a
cold place, they must be taken into the shop one day
before the lamination and make sure that the shells
are clean and free of oil, dust, etc.
Wet the surface of the PMMA sheets before chopping
fibers in order to ensure proper wetting of the surface.
After that, start spraying resin and fiber ensuring a
homogeneous thickness throughout the shell surface.
If there is a difference of thickness, this will cause hot
spots in the thick areas and warpage of the finished
item. Roll the laminate after each pass so that there
will not be any air bubbles trapped within the laminate.
Because the adhesion of resin to the PMMA or ABS
sheet will take place during curing, it is important to
have proper curing and do the trimming after making
sure that the cure is complete.

Polin Wins Iaapa Brass Ring Award For Space Race Waterslide
The prestigious award recognizes a best-in-its-kind
product at the annual international event.
Polin Waterparks is extremely proud to announce that
it has been awarded one of the most prestigious honors
in the amusement industry: a Brass Ring for Best New
Product from the International Association of Amusement
Parks and Attractions. IAAPA bestowed the award on
Polin for its new Space Race waterslide, a first-of-its-
kind waterslide that allows groups of riders to compete
against one another. The annual award recognizes the
best new product or service in the category of Water Park
Ride/Attraction category in Class A (for products costing
US$2 million or more). Polin is honored and sends its
thanks to IAAPA and the judges for recognizing this unique
streamlined design waterslide.
The award was presented to Polin Waterparks during the
IAAPA Attractions Expo in Orlando, Florida, on Monday,
Nov. 15.
Ali Cansun, Director of R&D of Polin Waterparks, said that
achieving this award was monumental for the company.
"Every waterslide we design begins with the belief that it
should be more than just a compilation of features," he
explained. "Instead, we look at it from the perspective that
it should be seriously simple in delivering fun yet entirely
revolutionary in broadening the industry's horizons - to
go beyond the routine. A new waterslide's structure and
technology should be designed and engineered to work
together and improve on one another. We believe that's
the only way to create a waterslide that is balanced and
congruent."
That approach is what led to the development of the Space
Race, an advanced waterslide that delivers a uniquely
competitive riding experience.
"Its invention fulfills a life-long dream of our company: To
give guests the experience of competing in a true, real-life
race with other riders within a bowl slide. The result of our

not only revolutionary and breathtaking but also practical.

Polin Waterparks Honored With "Leading Edge Award"

Polin Waterparks is recognized for innovation
expertise by the World Waterpark Association (WWA).
Polin Waterparks has been recognized for its
expertise in innovation with its award of the
2016 World Waterpark Association's prestigious
Leading Edge Award for "Innovation in waterslide
manufacturing that allows for artistic theming,
unique patterns and sound effects". The WWA's
Board of Directors selected Polin Waterparks for the
exclusive honor based on the company's unique,
pioneer and exclusive waterslide manufacturing
technologies like Closed Molded Manufacturing
Technology, Natural Light Effects, Special Pattern
Effects, Patterned Translucency, Slide'n Roll,
Translucent Slide Parts and and new design options
that allow parks to offer customized theming,
story telling, spectator appeal and interactive rider
experience.
Polin Waterparks previously was honored by WWA
with the Leading Edge Award in 2014 for being the
supplier of waterpark of Cartoon Network Amazone
Waterpark, located in Pattaya, Thailand. That award
was designed to recognize a park and supplier
member who, through their combined efforts,
brought a project, product, service or program to
fruition, thereby creating industry innovation and
leadership.
The award that Polin Waterparks received this year
had a different criteria. WWA defines the honor as:
"Awarded to individuals or parks for creativity in the
development of new themes, facilities, programs,
services or operational concepts in the water
attractions industry, and to suppliers who have
developed new concepts, products or services to the
benefit of park members, their customers or the
water attractions industry."
The General Session of the WWA Show took place
on Wednesday, October 12, at the Ernest N. Morial
Convention Center in the Great Hall in New Orleans,
LA at 11:30 a.m. WWA Chairman of the Board
Mark Moore presented the award, which was
accepted by Sohret Pakis, Director of Marketing &
Communications and Dr. Kubilay Alpdoan, Director
of Sales and Design on behalf of Polin Waterparks
team. Kubilay Alpdoan, Director of Sales and
Design, says, "Winning this award is a great honor for
Polin Waterparks and everyone on our team."
This year, Polin Waterparks celebrates its 40th
anniversary in the waterslide manufacturing
industry. "For the last 20 years,our company has
invested a great deal into the industry. Our R&D
backbone consists of more than 55 engineers in
three sub-departments focusing on composites,
hydromechanical systems and product design. This
is our main strength. I am proud to announce that
we are becoming a R&D center by 2017. " Sohret
Pakis, Director of Marketing & Communication says.
"We have been the pioneer in resin-transfer molding
(RTM) waterslide manufacturing and today we are the
sole producer offering its entire line as RTM."
Another innovation that Polin Waterparks introduced
was the development of Natural Light Effects RTM
technology, followed by Special Pattern Effects,
translucent RTM and patterned translucency. "We
have continually invested in new technologies and
advancements over the years," Pakis explains.
"And,last year,we introduced our artistic series of
finishes."
The new finishes replicate the appearance of
graffiti, wood and metallics, among other designs.
"This technology innovation turns waterslides into
genuine works of art with both interior and exterior
designs - fully embedded into the production of
the slides. These innovations are critical to helping
our waterpark partners with their story telling and
theming. By offering these, we have changed the way
the industry is able to deliver an experience to their
guests," Pakis says.
Cartoon Network is a perfect example of this
new trend in delivering experiences. By what
Polin waterparks introduced, the waterslides
have progressed from being individual waterpark
attractions and into becoming integral parts of a
park's story - virtually characters themselves.

that we are expanding that into a whole line of artistic
themes that can fit into a wide range of park themes
to enhance the storytelling. We will introduce 4

EN 45545-2 defines a classification system for fire
behavior and safety in trains, railways and vehicles
projects where health and safety are upmost importance.
For the first time in Turkey, Poliya has introduced the
resin POLIPOL 345-FR and gelcoat POLIJEL F-345, which
is specially developed for closed systems, vehicles and
rail applications and has been developed according to

yaptrclarnn, 2015 ylndan itibaren de
Alman Curox marka sertletiricilerinin Trkiye
temsilciliini srdrmektedir.
2010 Yl itibar ile firma ynetimini evlatlarna
devreden Kani obanolu son zamana
kadar lkalem A.. onursal bakan sfat ile
mesaisinden dn vermemi ve firmann yol
gstericisi olarak alanlarna ngrlerini ve
tecrbelerini aktarmtr.
2016 ylnda st ste geirdii kalp
ameliyatlarnnn ardndan ne yazk salna
kavuamam ve lkalem A..nin ikinci
fabrikasnn alm grmeleri srasnda 5 Kasm
2016 tarihinde vefat etmitir.
