COMPETING FLOATS
1. Only the eight (8) academic colleges are allowed to join the competition.
Only one (1) float entry is allowed per competing college.
2. Competing floats should adopt this years theme, SANTAS TOY FACTORY
3. Competing colleges are free to use any materials that they deem fit in the
design. Recycled materials are allowed but not encouraged.
NOTE: Special award may apply to the float from Gardenia which portays
their company/Gardenia product
4. Float Dimensions
4.1. STANDARD DIMENSION:
4.1.1. 13 feet in width
4.1.2. 14 feet in height from the ground
4.1.3. 24 feet in length
4.2. MAXIMUM DIMENSION:
4.2.1. 13 feet in width
4.2.2. 16 feet in height from the ground to avoid
entanglement with buntings, trees and electric
wires
4.2.3. 26 feet in length
5. Float entries should have their candidates for Mr. & Ms. Lantern 2017 during
the parade wearing College shirt and Jeans.
6. Float must be made by bona fide students of respective
colleges/organizations.
7. Float must have a college moniker with a touch of Christmas.
8. Competing float could provide a speaker to play during the parade.
Preferably, Christmas song will be played.
9. Draft of the design of the float should also included.
10. Floats should be stable, secure, and must be well-ventilated in order to
avoid any untoward accidents (e.g. suffocation) among the drivers and
riders.
11. Participating colleges should submit three (4) hard printed copies of the
description and explanation of the floats symbolism containing not more
than 120 words (FORMAT: LONG BOND PAPER|FONT SIZE: 12|FONT STYLE:
Century Gothic|SPACING:1.5), and one (1) accomplished entry form not
later than December 12, 2017, (until 5:00pm). The description and
explanation shall be read during the actual day of the parade as the float
approaches the end point of the parade route. All necessary papers and
documents are to be submitted to Mr. Noah Rhen A. Casiple at the Student
Union Building. No alterations or edits will be allowed after the documents
are passed. Taped summaries will not be accepted.
12. There will be surprise visitation and judging of the entries on their respective
colleges. The final judging shall be on the day of the Lantern Parade,
December 15, 2017 (Friday). The parade route shall begin at the Academic
Avenue then turns left at the University Avenue (whereby street dancers of
each college shall perform a five-minute dance routine at the Main Gate).
After the various dances, the parade shall continue by turning right at Elon-
elon St. (Lagoon), then shall traverse the entirety of the Executive Avenue
and the Osmea Avenue. The parade shall cease upon reaching the
University Grand Stand at the University Oval, the final judging area.
13. The following activities on the floats are NOT ALLOWED:
13.1. Use of party poppers and any form of firecrackers
13.2. Littering
13.3. Wearing sexy and revealing clothes
13.4. Use of foul language, airing anti-government sentiments
13.5. Doing acrobatic stunts
13.6. Throwing of candies, cigarettes, towels, fans, caps, or any form of
promotional materials/giveaways that may otherwise disrupt the flow
of the parade
13.7. Live or dead animals and such.
14. The sequence of the parade shall be based on the unit numbers of the
respective colleges (ascending order).
15. All participating contingents in the float shall be at the assembly place,
along the Academic Avenue, by 1:30 pm to facilitate the evaluation of the
Parade Committee. Floats that do not arrive at the said time shall be
positioned last at the parade proper.
16. All competing floats have to stand by for display and public viewing in front
of the University Grand Stand from 6:00 pm to 11:59 pm after the parade at
their designated area.
17. The Float Committee shall be responsible for inviting and completing a
panel of three (3) judges. Their decision (after considering the respective
deductions) shall be considered final and therefore irrevocable.
18. Competing floats that will not comply with the said rules shall be subjected
to deductions from their total average score based on the matrix attached
to this General Guidelines.
19. Judging of entries shall be on the day of parade, December 15, 2017
(Friday).
There will be (2) phase of judging:
18.1. Day Evaluation (50%) which will be judged according to how it
appears during daytime (1:30PM @ the Assembly Place).
18.2. Night Evaluation (50%) which will be critiqued based on its
luminosity and elegance as it shines through the darkness (7:00PM @
the University Oval).
18.3. Both scores from the Day and Night evaluation will be totaled to
get the final score.
20. In no instance shall a tie for the top prizes be declared. In case of a tie
based on the average score, the appointed chairperson of the board of
judges shall break it.
21. Winners of the competition shall be announced during the evening
program of the Lantern Festival.
NON-COMPETING FLOATS

To further discuss and describe the meaning of their Float.

To test the durability of materials used for the float, the structure and its capability
to withstand without sustaining damage or wear in the parade.

This pertains to the lighting and its impact to exhibit the whole float. The lights
should add up spectacle and should be able to enhance the appearance of the
float during night time. (Spotlight is not included in the radiance)
DURABILITY 10%
To test the durability of materials used for the float, the structure and its capability
to withstand without sustaining damage or wear in the parade. TOTAL

Oversized/undersized floats 10
1. Only the eight (8) academic colleges are allowed to join the competition.

3. College monikers must be used in the faade in minimum of 3 feet and
maximum of 5 feet in size.
4. Competing colleges are free to use any materials that they deem fit in the
design.
5. Faade must be able to withstand outdoor conditions for the duration of
the Lantern Festival. Colleges must ensure the safety and security of the
entries.
6. The faade is required to have their own design of Christmas tree with the
minimum height of 10ft in any placement
7. Pre-judging shall be on December 13, 2017. There will be a morning
assessment (8:30 in the morning) and evening assessment (6:30 in the
evening). Additional decoration can be added after the day and evening
assessment.
8. Final Judging shall be on December 15, 2017. Like the prejudging, there will
be 2 assessments as well. No additional decorations shall be added after
the morning assessment on December 15, 2017.

prohibited.
9.2 Live or dead animals and such.

10. There must be a one-page synopsis about the design of the facade
relating the theme and their college to be submitted on or before
December 12, 2017, 5:00 PM. (Long bond paper, FONT SIZE: 12, FONT STYLE:
Century Gothic, SPACING: Single Spacing, Not more than 200 words)
11. Draft/design of the faade should be submitted.
12. College whom uses the prohibited materials shall be subjected tro
deduction.
13. The judges decision is final and irrevocable.
Cohesiveness of the Facade with the theme and the college 45%
The relevance of the design must be interrelated with the theme and the
culture of respective colleges. This is to challenge the participants on how they
can promote their professions through facade.

Any violation of the provision of Section 9 of this General

Guidelines
1. The following rules & regulations are to be in effect for all practices and the
competition proper.
2. All teams must be supervised during the practices and competition by a
qualified and knowledgeable coach/ faculty.
3. All participants agree to conduct themselves in a manner displaying good
sportsmanship throughout the event.
4.Concept or theme for performance, costume and props must depict the
culture, values and tradition of the College when celebrating Lantern Festival. In
addition the routine must depict three( 3) LARONG PINOY and must be chosen
on this:

5. Passing of requirements must be submitted on or before December 12,2017
until 5:00PM.
6. The composition of the contingent must be within the MINIMUM OF THIRTY FIVE
(35) and a MAXIMUM OF FIFTY (50) DANCERS and a MAXIMUM OF TEN (10)
PROPS MEN. *(WEARING BLACK).
7. Assembly time for all the street dancers is 6:00 PM beside the CLSU
GRANDSTAND.
8. Performance will start at 7:00 PM on December 15, 2017 - in front of the CLSU
Grandstand.
9. Each team will be allotted minimum of six (6) minutes and maximum of eight
(8) minutes for the routine. Timer starts upon the first dance movement, start of
music, or whichever comes first. The performance shall include the first 90
seconds of the beginning of the song PAROL NG PASKO.
10. And a total of Ten (10) MINUTES including the entrance and exit .One minute
is allowed as maximum time for entrance. The time for entrance will count as
soon as the first member of the contingent gets inside the line of the
performance area. Another minute is allotted to exit. The time of exit will end
until the last member of the contingent or last prop will be out of the line of the
performance area.
11. For every five (5) seconds in excess of the allowable time, a penalty of
two (2) point shall be deducted from the total score of all the judges.
12. The use of flammable materials such as pyrotechnics as part of the
performance is strictly prohibited. Props used in the parade or in the parade.
should not exceed 14 ft. in height. Contingents are prohibited from performing
dance movements that unduly endanger the safety of dancers.
13. Backdrops shall be within the 10-12 feet height and 35-40 feet width.
These shall be allowed on stage however no contingent shall leave props,
backdrops, etc. at the back of the stage and premises of the CLSU
GRANDSTAND. Violation of this guideline will merit ten (10) points deduction from
the total score.
23. The decision of the Board of Judges in Street dance category shall be final
and irrevocable. Questions or clarifications will be entertained after the
announcement of winners if the correct procedure are followed.
PROPS and COSTUMES
1. Costumes& props shall be provided by the street dance group participating.
2. Only moves and materials that are stable and safe will be part of the routine,
hence no pyramids, stunts and tumbling will be included.
3. Props must be handled with care in taking in and out of the competition
area...
4. The following are prohibited at any point of the routine: liquids, flammable
materials, confetti, powder, firecrackers and any hard or heavy materials that
may destroy entry or exit.
5. The contingents must add a glittery effect on their costumes and/or props.
SCORING
1) The first thing to understand is that judges will be split into three (3) panels with
one member each: one is the theme / concept / choreography panel , one is
the performance panel, and one is the costume / props panel.
2) The theme / concept / choreography panel will further be broken down into
sfive categories:
1) (60 points) Thematic interpretation and relevance
2) (60 points) true representation of College culture and tradition in
Celebrating Lantern Festival including music
3) (60 points) Creativity and artistry of movement patterns- formation
4) (30 points) smooth transitions
5) (30 points) Appropriateness of movement
All six categories will be overseen by an individual judge who will focus on
his/her own category and give a score with a maximum of 240pts.
3) The judge in the performance panel will then abide by a criteria of Overall -

And one judge will give a score with a maximum of 150 points.

And will each give a score with a maximum of 110 points.
5) Adding up the scores from the three panel judges and the score from the Pre-
Performance, each squad may garner up to 800 points.
6) The final score will be determined by subtracting the deductions, if any, from
the combined scores from the three-member panel.

3. Assembly time for all parade participants (dancers) is 12 noon beside the
Administration Building.
4. The judging area is at the Presidential Tree. Groups arriving later than 1:00
PM shall be given 20 points deduction.
6. For every five (5) seconds in excess of the allowable time, a penalty of two
(2) points shall be deducted from the total score of the contestant.

REQUIREMENTS
1. All participants must be a bona fide student of Central Luzon State
University.
2. Only one group per college can join the competition, wherein each
group shall be composed of not less than 10 and maximum of 20
members (4 copies).
3. Participating colleges must submit the following documents:
Fully accomplished official entry form
2x2 picture of each member, with name
Photocopy of Form 6 or University Library Validated ID
4. The aforementioned documents must be submitted on or before
December 12, 2017 until 5:00PM.
5. Substitution or changing of members right after the form and documents
have been submitted will bear deductions.
MECHANICS
1. The theme for Christmas Concierto 2017 will be CHRISTMAS CAROL IN
CHILDRENS HEARTS.
2. The songs which will be used will be pre-selected.
2.1. The arrangement of songs will be on the discretion of the participants.
2.2. There must be a soloist to highlight the whole performance. The song
that will be used for the highlight will be the choice of the group.
3. The genre of the performance should be acoustic.
3.1. The instruments to be used is only limited to the following:
a. Acoustic guitar
b. Tambourine
c. Maracas
d. Tambora drum or any single drum
4. Each group shall be given a minimum of 6 minutes and a maximum of 10
minutes.
5. Wearing of costume is required. Keep it minimal, creative and must be
inclined with the theme. However, the use of pyrotechnics, live animals,
explosive, liquid materials or any materials that may harm other person
during the person are strictly prohibited.
6. The top three highest shall be deemed as the Champion, 1st Runner Up, 2nd
Runner.
6.1. There will be a special award for the group with best performing
soloist and best in costume.
7. The Chairman of the Board of Judges shall have the right and responsibility
to break the tie through toss coin.
8. Winners will be announced after the competition and will perform during
the Lantern Program on December 15, 2017
9. The Judges decision is final and irrevocable.

1. The song line-up shall not include songs with screaming, lyrics that
promote violence, and incomprehensible noise.
2. All bands participating in the event shall be present in the waiting area,
thirty (30) minutes before the event starts.
3. Each band shall be given 15 minutes on stage, including set-up and
sound check. Audio will be cut off if you exceed the allotted time.
4. A band cannot sign up for extra sets under different band names.
5. In the case of a band member/s playing for another band, it is the
organizers discretion to allow the band member to play for the other
band.
6. A band can perform again after all of the registered bands are done
playing.
7. The bands are highly encouraged to play 1 acoustic song on the event
on December 15, 2017.

1. Any bona fide male CLSU student enrolled for the first semester of Academic
Year 2017-2018 is allowed to enter the CLSU Q&A Pageant.
2. Interested applicants for the pageant are required to submit the following
no later than November 27:
2.1. Photocopy of CLSU Identification Card (front and back)
2.2. Office of Admissions Form 6 (indicating the officially enrolled
watermark)
2.3. One (1) 2x2 picture
2.4. Accomplished Personal Data Sheet (PDS) to be provided by the
organizers
3. The pageant shall be divided into two segments: (1) the closed-door
meeting and screening (2) and the final pageant proper.
4. The theme of CLSUs first Q&A Pageant is Philippine Indigenous/Tribal
Princesses
5. Contestants arriving later than 30 minutes than the organizers call time for
any meeting, rehearsal or contest proper shall be duly disqualified. Only
valid excuse letters signed by the registration adviser or department chair
shall be accepted.
6. Contestants, in any segment of the pageant (including screening), are not
allowed to wear flat shoes. Minimum shoe heel height is three inches.
7. Any complaint/issue arising after the announcement or awarding of winners
shall not be entertained.
8. The judges decision shall be considered irrevocable and final.
9. Infraction or violation of any provision of this General Guidelines (GG) will
cause immediate disqualification.
10. The Miss Q & A Committee shall be responsible for inviting and completing
a panel of three (3) judges. Their decision (after considering the respective
deductions) shall be considered final and therefore irrevocable.
11. Competing candidates that will not comply with the said rules shall be
subjected to deductions from their total average score based on the matrix
attached to this GG.

on the average score, the appointed chairperson of the board of judges

13. Winners of the competition shall be announced during the awarding
ceremony of the program proper.
3. Contestants are required to wear a white top (spaghetti strap, muscle shirt,
crop-top, t-shirt, etc) paired with short shorts no longer than eight (8)
inches and high heels no shorter than three (3) inches.
4. One by one, contestants shall be required to demonstrate cat-walk
modelling after which they shall state their name, age, college of origin,
and favorite saying. The best cat-walk model among all the contestants
shall have an automatic spot in the final pageant (Top 20).
5. Remaining spots for the Top 20 will be battled out in the Tagisan ng Talino
portion of this segment, a general-information quiz bee containing 15
questions. Cheating during this segment will equal disqualification.
6. The scores shall be tallied and the Top 19 shall then move on to the final
pageant.
FINAL PAGEANT
1. The Top 20 contestants shall arrive at the CLSU Multi-Purpose Gym no later
than 5:00 pm on December 14 for the Final Pageant. There shall be a grace
period of 30 minutes. Anybody arriving later than the grace period shall be
considered disqualified.
2. Contestants will be required to bring their (1) thematic outfit indigenous
princess attire (2) red evening gown.
3. The contestants shall perform a rehearsed production number, the song
accompaniment of which is Magkaugnay by Joey Ayala. The required
attire is an indigenous/tribal princess outfit to be provided by THE
CONTESTANTS THEMSELVES.
4. The indigenous attire would also be used for the next portion, their individual
walks in thematic attire. This shall be followed by the evening gown
competition. The awards for Best in Tribal Attire and Best in Evening
Gown shall be announced shortly afterwards.
5. After the announcement of minor awards, the Fez to Fez portion shall start
a one question knock-out round between two contestants selected
randomly by the computer. The person who gets the answer correctly will
have a spot in the Top 10. By the end of this round, only 10 contestants shall
remain, with the other half eliminated.
6. After the Fez to Fez round, the Top 10 contestants shall move on to the
Wit Lang portion wherein each contestant shall be asked a seemingly
nonsensical question which they are required to answer/justify in no more
than a minute.
7. After the Wit Lang portion, only half will remain, the Top Five, who shall
move on to the final round, the Beklamasyon. In Beklamasyon, all five
contestants will be asked the same question which they are required to
answer in no more than a minute. Those waiting for their turn shall be
confined to a confinement, sound-proof vehicle.
8. After the Beklamasyon, the Miss Q&A Serene Empress of Lantern Festival
will have been determined. The other four shall receive the awards: (1) Miss
Q&A Good Witch of the North, (2) Miss Q&A Good Witch of the South, (3)
Miss Q&A Wicked Witch of the East, (4) and Miss Q&A Wicked Witch of
the West

GENERAL GUIDELINES:
1. Only the eight (8) colleges can join the competition and can submit an
entry.
2. The design and concept of the lantern should depend on the theme
CANDYLAND
3. Seal of each college shall be the framework design of the lantern.
4. Dimension of Lantern:
Standard Height: 6ft Maximum Height: 8ft
Standard Width: 6ft Maximum Width: 8ft
NOTE: Each college may have the option to suspend the lantern or not. If
the lantern is suspended, the dimension shall be restricted to:
Standard Height: 8ft Maximum Height: 11ft
Standard Width: 8ft Maximum Width: 10ft
NOTE: If the lantern is suspended, it must be 1ft away from the FFL.
5. Lanterns should be free from electric shock and pyrotechnics. No dead
animals shall be used to display the lantern. Participants should take care
of electric cord and male plug. Electrical outlets and electricity consumed
during the display period will be provided free of charge. Please provide
circuit breakers to avoid electrical trouble.
6. Lantern must be made by bona fide students of respective
colleges/organizations.
7. Any materials can be used in creating the lantern itself except for the
following:
Garbage Bag
Plastic Utensils/ Drinking Straw
Commercial Plastics (used in creating commercial lanterns)
8. Maximum of 2 rotors shall be allowed for any mechanization in the lantern
if there is any.
9. Lanterns shall be paraded with their Lantern Floats on a separate vehicle
positioned at the front on their float at December 15, 2017.
10. Lanterns must be able to withstand indoor and outdoor conditions for the
duration of the Lantern Festival and Christmas season. Organizers will ensure
the safety and security of the entries BUT WILL NOT BE HELD LIABLE for any
damage or loss of an entry.
11. Participating groups must submit 4 copies of the following documents to
the Lantern Festival Executive Committee on or before December 12, 2017
at exactly 5:00PM. No alterations or revisions shall be made after the
documents are passed.

Synopsis or brief description of the lantern
12. There will be a prejudging of lanterns on December 13, 2017 at MPG.
Documentation of Lantern making must be submitted on the said date. The
designs of the lanterns can be enhance starting until before the assembly
for the parade, 1:00 PM. Additional decorations and details are permitted
as long as the main frame is on its original form.
13. There will be an impromptu judging and visitation in each college. If there
is no lantern presented on the surprise judging, 15 points will be deducted
from the final score.
14. Lanterns must arrive on CLSU-Multi Purpose Gym at exactly 5:30 PM on
December 13, 2017; otherwise a 20-point deduction will be applied from
the total score of the entry for the late arrival of the lantern.
15. Lanterns must arrive at exactly 1:00 PM on December 15, 2017 at the
University Avenue in front of their respective Colleges Float; otherwise 20-
point deduction will be applied from the total score of the entry for the late
arrival of the lantern.
16. There will be 2 phase of judging:
40% Prejudging (Judging at the CLSU-Multi Purpose Gym on
December 13, 2017)
60% Final judging (Judging will be at the CLSU Oval during the
Lantern Festival, December 15, 2017 )
Both scores from pre-judging and final judging will be totaled to get
the final score.
17. The total scores of the Colleges that will not comply with the rules and
regulations will be subjected for possible deductions. Included in this GG is
the matrix of deductions for violations and infractions.
18. Final judging of lanterns will be on December 15, 2017 at the University Oval.
19. Point system shall be used in determining the winner. In no instance shall a
tie for the top prized be declared. In case there is a tie, the final average
rankings of the judges shall be used. If this is still ineffective, the appointed
chairman of the board of judges has to break it.
20. The judges decision is final and irrevocable.
21. Winners will be announced during the lantern program proper.
Radiance 30%
This pertains to the lighting and its impact to exhibit the whole lantern. The lights
should add up spectacle and should be able to enhance the appearance of the
lantern during night time.
Explanation 10%
This pertains to the justification and symbolism used in the lantern.
Durability 10%
This pertains to test the durability of materials used for the Lantern, the structure
and its capability to withstand without sustaining damage or wear in the parade.

GENERAL GUIDELINES:
NOTE: During the battle, all groups will be asked to bring their members original
I.D. for on-site verification. Failure to present such documents will be equivalent to
5-point deduction.
ROUTINE LENGTH:
1. The routine must run for a total of four minutes (4:00).
2. A grace period of plus or minus (+/-) five seconds (:05) is permitted resulting
to a minimum of 3:55 and a maximum 4:05.
3. 3. Pre-performance display is permissible up to 20 seconds allowing the
group to acknowledge the audience to get up into the opening pose.
4. Timing of the pre-performance begins when the first group member steps
on stage.
5. Timing of the routine begins with the first audible sound and ends with the
last audible sound (this includes a cuing beep, if used).
NOTE: Failure to comply with the routine length will result in a 5-point deduction.
In the event of technical problems that affect a groups performance, the
group will be allowed a do-over or repeat of their routine.
MUSIC:
1. Groups may use a performance piece with a minimum of two (2) songs with
no maximum limit.
2. Groups must submit their final material on CD (2 copies) 2 days prior to the
competition.
CRITERIA:
Originality, interpretation, and relevance to the choice of the song 30%
Achievement of creative and original choreography that creates interest in the
performance.
