My print is an image of a student sitting in front of a work desk, being

depressed at the grades he receive. It is clear from the image that the subject

matter of is depression. This image is used to The person represented in this

image is unsatisfied with the grades received and thus stressed. The most obvious

principles in my artwork is the combination of blue and red. Originally, I thought

that the colors would not overlap to this extent such that the red background

colors cannot be distinguished as a background color, but rather both red and

dark blue forms a new mix of colors. I thought that the red would stand alone as

a background color and the dark blue would be the color of the print.

At first, I thought of ideas and then finally came up with the idea of

depression of students from school. Then I decided to draw a picture of a student

sitting and thinking of the issue of judgements. Also, the picture is labeled Do not

judge them from their results, Appreciate their hard work. The next step was to

outline the drawing using the scrap paper. Then, I started carving using the

carving tool. Thereafter, I created two backgrounds of red color. Having painted

the print with blue, I stuck the print on the background.

This artwork originated from my personal experience, when I was in deep

depression, thinking about the unfairness in this school system. However, I feel

that this is a universal problem and applied to anyone who feels the same.

Specifically, depression that is portrayed in the picture is from students knowing

that teachers only judge them from the results of their actions, and not the effort

they put in to attain the results regardless its quality. Only the quality of the

results is appreciated and not the actual hard work. Therefore, for most cases,

teachers only judge students from the results of the action taken and not by the

amount of effort put in; not all hard work pays for the desired results. The

emotions intended to express through this artwork was the feeling of sympathy

for students experiencing hardships.

My ultimate goal for creating this art piece is to spread the message to

everyone, especially to teachers. By creating this work, I think I can reach my

goal because simply more people who get the message and hopefully realize the

importance of judging students correctly. For my own thoughts on my overall

work, everything turned out as intended except for the total combination of

colors as background colors instead of background-print color type.
