DEVELOPMENT OF THE URETER

Background

The human ureter belongs to definitive kidney collector system, starting to operate from intrauterine
life in the week . There are three renal systems (pronephros, mezonephros and metanephros), the
most important of them in the development of the ureter being the mezonephros. It is responsible in
the collection of the urine and it is derived from the ureteral bud, which appers as an extension from
mezonephros in the cloacal region, penetrating into metanephros, where it will form: 1-3 millions
collectors tubes, the small calves, the large calves, the pelvis kidney and the ureter.

Materials and methods

At the Department of Anatomy and Embriology at UMF Carol Davila there was a study which included
the dissecton with the standard kit of some fetuses, the average age of intrauterine life being months.
With the help of study and research materials provided by the Department we have been able to track
the development of urinary components, focusing on ureteral aspects such as malformation that may
occur both at the level of the urinary system and at other organ systems.

Results

The results of the study indicate that malformation such as (ureteral division and malformation of the
ureteral septum) may be associated with disorders of other organ system, the results deriving from
dissections made at the Department, but also a detalied meta-analysis. The study was conducted over a
period of days, including the products of conception of some pregnacy stoped from evolution, the
cases being taken from the Obstetrics and Gynecology Clinc of Universitary Emergency Hospital
Bucharest.

Conclusion

Genetic and epigenetic factors may be implicated in the existence of malformations of the ureter. The
normal embryological pathway is conditioned by the integrity of the Angiotensin II receptor, but also by
other parameters that make up te biochimical enviorment responsible for the development of the
urinary system.
