Present Status of infrastructure facilities in the region to facilitate export

Apart from Malikghat Phool Bazar there are eight flower markets in the
adjoining districts. Presently infrastructure facilities to for export of
floriculture viz. pack houses, cool transport, auction house., facilities for
information dissemination and training are almost non existent. Only
three markets at Rajarhat , Panskura and Kalighat have cool vehicles and
only the Thakurnagar market has cold storage facilities. Despite these
inadequacies the export figures of flowers in 2009 2010 was
Rs 76, 11,406.
There are few large export oriented Floriculture Projects coming up in
West Bengal and Sikkim which are concentrated mainly in North Bengal.
Such products are expected to be sent to Mallickghat Flower Market for
auctioning.
Some of the major policy initiatives taken by Department of FPI & H.
GoWB for overall development of agro industry that will also benefit the
floriculture are:
Development of five AEZ in different parts of the state.
Facilitating the private sector, joint sector, and PSU initiatives.
