Objective

Find how the apparent weight of a stationary

block changes as the angle it makes with the
horizontal (θ) changes.

Materials

● Block
● Inclined plane of variable angle (board and books)
● Electronic Scale
● Protractor
● Tape or blue tack

A complete lab report must include:

❏ The materials you used and how you used them

❏ The design of your experiment
❏ Data collected in tabular form (About 5 different angles)
❏ Analysis of the data (How does the ratio of the apparent weight to the weight
change with angle?)
❏ Derive the relationship between the apparent weight changes and angle of the
board and the table
❏ A conclusion:
❏ summarizing your results and why apparent weight changes
❏ assessing any errors that may have affected your data
❏ discussing how you might improve the experiment and / or describing
what further experiments you might like to perform on this subject
