Workforce Development Month
Welcome to the Herts Sports and Physical Activity Partnership’s (HSP) inaugural
Workforce Development Month.
Over the past decade our Coach Education Week – held annually during February
half term – has cemented itself in the coaching development calendar. The
programme is the biggest of its kind in the UK and since its inception has provided
development opportunities for over 8,000 practicing and prospective sports
coaches.
With the support of a wide range of National Governing Bodies of Sport, Sport
England, UK Coaching, the University of Hertfordshire and a diverse mix of other
training and development providers, the programme has been instrumental in both
improving the quality of sports coaching in Hertfordshire and farther afield, as
well as bringing together groups of likeminded coaches in various communities of
practice – where ideas are shared, challenges discussed and collaborative solutions
found.
Coach Education Week has become synonymous with HSP and will continue to be
a very important part of our work.
The Herts Coach Education Week will be a very important part of that programme,
but Workforce Development Month will offer much, much more.
To reach inactive people we will need to work closely with a wider range of
partners – particularly those from within the Voluntary, Community and Social
Enterprise Sector (VCSE) – who already have a relationship with, and the trust
of our inactive population. Then, we will need to ensure that our workforce is
properly equipped to engage with and enthuse inactive people, using various
products and programmes that can fit into what can often be rather chaotic
lifestyles.
It is imperative that Hertfordshire continues to lead the way in improving our local
sport and physical activity infrastructure, and in meeting head-on the significant
challenge that we face in tackling inactivity levels in the county. As such we hope
that you will find something of interest in this Workforce Development Month
programme and that you will help us spread the word about what’s on offer.
