The Watcher Episode 3

FADE IN
1 INT. COFFEE SHOP - NIGHT 1

MARK stands in JIMMY’s coffee shop.


MARK
He hasn’t been here for days.

The camera watches patrons retrieving their coffees. A


patron looks surprised while looking at the camera. The
barista hands two COFFEES to Mark.
2 INT. JIMMY’S APARTMENT - MORNING 2

Jimmy gets out of bed, nearly dressed, and packs his gear.
He’s wearing a SECURITY OUTFIT.
3 INT. JIMMY’S APARTMENT - MORNING 3
Jimmy walks towards the front door then nods at the camera.

JIMMY
Always through the front door.
The door opens to blinding sunlight.

4 EXT. STREET - MORNING 4


The sun’s rays beat down on Jimmy as he walks along
Baltimore’s city streets.
5 EXT. STREET - MORNING 5

Mark runs down the street, two coffees in hand. He holds one
out for Jimmy who tentatively takes it.
MARK
Hey man, not going to the coffee
shop today?
Jimmy looks menacingly towards the camera crew before
returning his gaze to Mark.

MARK
Can I walk with you?
JIMMY
I’m kind of busy.
(beat)
I need to get going Mark.
They walk a little, but Jimmy appears on edge.

MARK
Have you read anything recently?
JIMMY
Just The Watchmen.

The pair near the end of the street.


MARK
So where are we headed?

JIMMY
Nowhere special.
The pair reach the street corner and Jimmy starts booking
it. Mark starts to follow, but Jimmy tosses his coffee at
him. Jimmy scorches down an alleyway. The coffee pools on
the ground and moves towards a sewer drain. The camera moves
into the darkness of the sewers.
6 EXT. TRAIN DEPOT - EVENING 6
A chainlink fence rattles as Jimmy breaks into a train
depot. He goes through a gate, sneaks through train cars,
and by train attendants. He climbs into an old train car and
slithers into the darkness. The camera DOLLIES out to reveal
Mark watching Jimmy from a distance.
7 INT. CAR - NIGHT 7

Mark drives in a car.


MARK
If we don’t catch him, I’m afraid
he’s going to do something real
stupid.
8 INT. TRAIN-CAR - NIGHT 8
Jimmy sits on the edge of a train car, the moonlight beating
down on his face.

9 INT. PARKING GARAGE - NIGHT 9


Mark gets out of his car in a parking garage.

10 INT. TRAIN-CAR - NIGHT 10


Jimmy watches skyscrapers zoom by.

11 INT. GRAND CENTRAL STATION - NIGHT 11


Mark moves through a crowd.
12 EXT. TRAIN DEPOT - NIGHT 12

Jimmy hops out of the train car and into a bustling train
depot. He ascends stairs adjacent to the tracks.
13 INT. GRAND CENTRAL STATION - NIGHT CONTINUOUS 13

Jimmy opens two large double doors revealing a


bustling Grand Central Station. Over in the distance Jimmy
sees Mark moving towards him. Jimmy makes a break for it
into the crowd. Mark searches for Jimmy but can’t find him.
14 EXT. NEW YORK CITY - NIGHT 14

A large gathering of people hold up signs and others speak


on megaphones protesting the patriarchy. It feels like the
tension is about to burst into violence. Lights occasionally
illuminate Jimmy’s obsessed face as he searches the crowd
for his ex-girlfriend. A speaker screams into a microphone
as protestors cheer and yell. Jimmy walks away from the
protest. He looks straight into the camera.
JIMMY
She’s not here, there’s one more
protest she might be at, but we
have to move quickly.
TWO COPS approach Jimmy.
COP
Excuse me sir.

Jimmy acts like he doesn’t hear him and moves in the


opposite direction.
COP
Sir.
Jimmy turns and faces the officers.
JIMMY
How can I help you officers?

COP
What’s with the getup?
JIMMY
I act as security for the protests.

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 4.

The cops are getting close to Jimmy, they look like they
might make a move. Jimmy looks like a trapped mouse.
COP
Is your name Jimmy?

Jimmy sprints into the crowd.


15 EXT. NEW YORK CITY - NIGHT CONTINUOUS 15
Jimmy erupts from the crowd and eventually looks back from
the safety of an alleyway. The cops are closing in. Jimmy
looks around for a quick escape. He locks eyes on something.
SMASH CUT
16 INT. SEWER - NIGHT 16

The camera crew picks back up with Jimmy in a sewer, his


security uniform still on. Complete darkness is infiltrated
by a singular light on-top of Jimmy’s head. Jimmy pulls his
PHONE out and looks down.

JIMMY
My GPS isn’t working, but we’re
headed to 27th and Park. She’s
supposed to be at another rally.
Jimmy looks up.

JIMMY
Here.
The camera looks up towards a ladder leading up to a sewer
grate. Streams of light beam down from above.

JIMMY
You first.
17 EXT. STREET - NIGHT 17

The camera crew films as Jimmy peaks out from under a sewer
drain. A cop looks curiously at the group but eventually
walks away.
JIMMY
We’re a little farther than I
thought.
Jimmy looks at the cop a moment.

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 5.

JIMMY
Hold this.
Jimmy hands his bag to the cameraman and begins walking down
the street.

VOICE V.O.
What would you do if you could talk
to her?
18 INT. HOUSE - DAY 18

Jimmy sits in front of the camera.


JIMMY
I just want to ask her what it
meant to her. Was she just being
nice?
19 EXT. CITY STREET - NIGHT 19
Jimmy walks down the street

JIMMY V.O.
She was the only good thing to ever
happen to me.
Mark runs down the street towards Jimmy.

MARK
Jimmy!
Jimmy looks back and begins to run.
20 INT. HOUSE - DAY 20

JIMMY
I have this dream where we’re
walking around New York together.

21 EXT. CITY STREET - NIGHT 21


JIMMY V.O.
I just can’t see life without her.
Jimmy runs from the cops. He stops at a corner almost flying
into the street. A SMALL STUFFED COW falls out of his
pocket. He picks it up. He looks at his GPS.
JIMMY V.O.
We’d stop by that one bridge.

22 EXT. 59TH STREET BRIDGE - NIGHT 22


Jimmy sits with SARAH by the bridge, she lays her head on
his shoulder.
23 EXT. STREET - NIGHT 23

Jimmy sees a protest, but one girl sticks out as she walks
off into the distance.
JIMMY V.O.
I want her to be happy, that’s why
I’m doing this.
Two cops from the protest see Jimmy. They say something over
a megaphone and start to run towards him. Mark runs with
them. Jimmy follows her.

She turns her head towards Jimmy. We see her face.


MONTAGE
- We see Sarah and Jimmy at a carnival.

- Smiling and laughing.


- Cuddling on a couch.
FADE TO BLACK

24 INT. CAR - NIGHT 24


Jimmy is in a car, a girl’s head relaxes on his shoulder.
25 EXT. NEW YORK CITY - NIGHT 25

Jimmy looks up from the pavement, his vision a daze. A small


stuffed cow on the ground. Sarah stands with Mark and a
couple cops.
A VOICE V.O.
He hired us for the project. I
think he was trying to impress his
girlfriend. Of course the group,
The Watchers was a farce.
26 INT. HOUSE - DAY 26

A man sits in front of the camera, JACK.


JACK
My name is Jack, I’m his camera
man.

(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 7.

(beat)
I feel bad for the guy, I really
don’t think he’s that bad. Just a
little misguided.

VOICE O.S.
Why did you come back?
Jack thinks for a moment.
JACK
I think we’re friends.
27 INT. BULLETPROOF GLASS - DAY 27
Jimmy sits across from the crew.

JACK
Hey man.
(beat)
How’s it going in there?
Jimmy looks sad. He doesn’t speak

JACK
Ya’ll right bud?
JIMMY
Yeah.

JACK
When are ya getting out?
JIMMY
Couple weeks.
28 EXT. PRISON - DAY 28
Jimmy walks towards Jack and Mark.

JACK
Good to see you.
MARK
Learn your lesson?

Jimmy looks at the camera and thinks for a minute.


JIMMY
Yeah.
FADE TO BLACK

29 INT. CAR - DAY 29


Jimmy sits in the back of Mark’s car. Jack is in the
passenger seat. He opens up his backpack, the items he had
on him before prison. He sees a small stuffed cow. He stares
at it. He looks at the camera.

FADE OUT
