GSK Motivational Questions 2017

Interest for Chosen Programme

We are looking for candidates who demonstrate a level of understanding of the discipline they are
applying for, and are motivated to constantly learn, develop and seek new opportunities.
Please tell us what interests you about this particular discipline/programme? Think about how you
will utilise your strengths, skills, experience and knowledge to deliver high quality
results. * (Maximum 300 words)

GSK’s Pharmaceutical Development & Supply programme interests me as I can apply knowledge
from university to discover and deliver engineering solutions across a product’s value chain. This
experience would drive my passion in science and engineering, as it will allow me to work in
synergy with people from R&D to manufacturing – developing my technical abilities alongside
experts in the field. I am also looking forward to working in a cross-functional team, meeting
people from diverse backgrounds, and overcoming exciting challenges.
As a candidate, from the outset I could bring GSK not only strong academic backgrounds, but
also the interpersonal skills necessary to excel in team-based situations. As Captain of Fencing,
I have led my team in Charterhouse School to win 8/13 matches, finishing with the best season
in nearly a decade. I implemented a new weekly fitness and technical routine session for senior
fencers and negotiated for Charterhouse Club to acquire a reaction time training machine. My
strengths as a leader and team-player are directly transferrable to the role at GSK, but I also seek
to hone these skills within a more professional context.
I am a motivated, driven, and ambitious student who is passionate about learning and developing
my abilities alongside others to its fullest. From achieving scholarship status in university to
winning the Open Class piano prizes at school, my determination to strive for the best results
without compromise is second to none. I also took initiative and founded a student-led tutorial
system for physics and chemistry students in school. This has seen a rise in the performance of
lower division students and was confirmed by three teachers.
To deliver high quality results, I am ready to develop my skill-set, and use them to its fullest extent
in providing value for GSK through cutting-edge innovation and multi-disciplinary projects.

you about working for GSK, and within the healthcare industry. * (Maximum 300 words)

What I find attractive about GSK is that it focuses on creating more value for customers whilst
emphasising the importance of innovation. I became interested in GSK during the Engineering
and Technology Fair at Cambridge, and chatting to current GSK employees during our
department’s Christmas Dinner sponsored by GSK, which I also co-hosted as the IT & Publicity
Officer for the Cambridge University Chemical Engineering Society.
I would like to work for a company that constantly changes shape to tackle global healthcare
problems. I am impressed by GSK’s development of the four-dose vial pneumococcal vaccine.
The reduction of physical space required maximises storage and eases cold-chain delivery,
allowing more children to be vaccinated per vial. Projects like these motivate me as I see myself
working together as part of a science-led team to adopt manufacturing processes to cope with
advancements in device technology. Furthermore, I would love to work in an environment with
high transparency and diversity, both factors which GSK value. With a company as old as 300
years, I find it amazing that GSK is still innovating and working at the forefront of pharmaceuticals,
vaccines, and healthcare research.
The healthcare industry plays a vital role in all nations, often making up 10% of a country’s GDP.
My interests within the healthcare sector lie in minimisng healthcare costs with better value
products. Delivering more products of value is GSK’s top priority; the availability of affordable
medication significantly reduces hospital and dental practice activities. Hence, more money can
be invested into R&D for better innovation. I am also interested in how to introduce novel
healthcare technology in a responsible and economically sustainable fashion. With a chemical
engineering degree, I see myself making a difference in terms of scaling up capacity and working
at the interfaces between manufacturing and research.
