CREATURES

Baseline rule: All Creatures automatically increase in Legend alongside their

Scion, depending on how many the Scion has. The maximum Legend a
Creature gets depends on how many Creatures (alongside Followers) the
Scion possesses.

One or two Creatures/Followers : Scion’s Legend – 2

Three through six Creatures/Followers: Scion’s Legend – 3
More than six Creatures/Followers: Scion’s Legend – 4

At character creation, a Scion may “assign” creatures higher or lower values

(So an Aztec Scion’s coatl might equal its Legend – 2 while his five eagle
warriors equal his Legend – 4).

Baseline Animals – from Scion: Hero

1-Dot Animals – Bird (Small), Bird (Raptor), Cat (Domesticated), Dog,

Cobra, Monkey, Rat

2-Dot Animals – Ape, Bear, Boar, Cat (Big), Crocodile, Dolphin, Elephant,
Horse, Shark, Wolf

I tended to err towards lower dot values with some of the animal stats. I
personally don’t think any mundane animal should be listed as a 3-dot
Creature simply because Epic Attributes make even an elephant’s huge stat
boosts very obsolete very quickly.
Most of these stats work fine enough, and can easily be adapted to other
animals, with a few minor tweaks (a rabbit being a rat with an extra dot of
Dex, for example, an armadillo would be a rat with +2L/2B armor, etc.).
Some animals that I think we really could use stats for include…

1-Dot – Scarab (As a generic insect template), Turtle

2-Dot – Bull, Deer, Snake (Constrictor)

All further Creatures could be expressed as mundane animals

that have the following enhancements.

One Dot Creature enhancement:

Legend 2
1 dot of each Virtue of the Scion’s pantheon, plus 5 to split
5 dots to Physical Attributes (if enhancing a 1-dot Creature)
1 dot to Charisma and Manipulation
2 dots to divide between Charisma, Manipulation, and Intelligence
5 dots to Epic Attributes
One “associated” Epic Attribute
One “hiding” power
One Creature Template
Two Dot Creature enhancement:
Legend 3 (if spent at the Creature’s creation)
An additional 3 dots for Virtues
3 dots added to Physical Attributes
5 dots to add to Social/Mental Attributes (none can exceed 5)
5 dots of Epic Attributes
Two “associated” Epic Attributes
Two Creature Templates

Three Dot Creature enhancement:

Legend 4 (if spent at the Creature’s creation)
An additional 3 dots for Virtues
3 dots added to Physical Attributes
5 dots to add to Social/Mental Attributes (none can exceed 5)
Three “associated” Epic Attributes
Three Creature Templates

DEMIGOD - Four Dot Creature enhancement:

Legend 5 (if spent at the Creature’s creation)
An additional 3 dots for Virtues
3 dots added to Physical Attributes
5 dots to add to Social/Mental Attributes (none can exceed 5)
Four “associated” Epic Attributes
Four Creature Templates
Mundane animals would also gain Legend as their Scions grow in power,
beginning at 1 dot when the Scion gains appropriate Legend (This does NOT
mean that if the Scion only has one mundane Creature and starts play at
Legend 3, the Creature is automatically raised to Legend 1. Scions need to
make their Legend first, so that Creature wouldn’t progress until the Scion
reaches Legend 4, upon which it gains 2 dots of Legend).
All Creatures, regardless of dot value or Template, gain 10 bonus points with
every dot of Legend they accrue.
Templates

General: These templates may be added to any Creature, regardless of the

Scion’s Pantheon (If a template requires the Scion be a Demigod/God, it may
still be PURCHASED at Hero, with the enhancement bonuses thereof, the
template simply does not apply until the Scion reaches the appropriate
Legend).

Draconic – Only available when the Scion is a Demigod. All dragons have a
hide that grants them Lethal Soak equal to their mundane Stamina and
Bashing Soak equal to twice their mundane Stamina, before their Epic
Stamina dots are applied. Dragons also possess a breath weapon as detailed in
Scion: Demigod, with the specific elemental attack dependent on the type of
dragon. Dragons may also take on a human form, while retaining their
draconic powers.

Familiar – The Creature is associated with witches and sorcery, and thus aid
Scions in their mystical endeavors. Familiars have Occult 3 and an additional
10 dots to add to abilities. Familiars are capable of human speech, and are
usually highly intelligent. A familiar adds a bonus to their Scion’s use of
Magic, Mystery, or Prophecy equal to their dot value. At the Hero level, the
familiar’s presence adds their dot value as dice to the roll. At Demigod level,
they add autosuccesses equal to their dot value. At God level, they add Epic
autosuccesses equal to their dot value (2 dots = 2 successes, 3 dots = 4
successes, 4 dots = 7 successes, 5 dots = 11 successes). A Familiar that reaches
Legend 10 may act as a channel for any Magic spells the Scion knows, and in
the Familiar’s presence, may reroll any failed Magic, Mystery, or Prophecy
roll as though using Legend without risking an additional Fatebinding.
Fighter – The Creature is a particularly fierce fighter, often with some form of
weapon or attack power that similar mortal animals do not possess (A
serpopard’s venom, or a manticore’s spiked tail). Creatures with the Fighter
template typically take Epic Strength as their Associated Epic. Their skills in
battle only increase along with their Legend. Upon gaining a new dot of
Legend, the Creature gains 5 bonus points to allocate to their natural weapons
or take thematically appropriate attack Boons. A Fighter that reaches Legend
10 automatically adds dice equal to their Legend to Accuracy and Damage
rolls.

Guide Channel – These creatures are intelligent enough that they may act as
Guides to their Scions as well as Creatures. The Scion must purchase the
Guide Birthright in addition, at the proper dot value. Creature/Guides are
more common at Demigod and God, but some Heroes may possess them.
These Guides tend to act more like Creatures than Guides, but as the Scion
grows in power, they are more able, and willing, to share their wisdom with
their charges.

Healer – The Creature is capable of healing any individual it comes across.

The Creature gains Medicine 2 and rolls Intelligence + Medicine to heal,
healing 1 Lethal damage per success or 2 Bashing per success. Most Healers
thus have Epic Intelligence as their Associated Epic. With each dot of Legend,
the Healer gains 5 bonus points to purchase Boons to both heal and reduce
illness (Potability, Life Giving Rays, etc.). When the Creature reaches Legend
5, it may heal Aggravated Damage at a rate of 1A per 10 successes.
(Note, similar to the Health purview being capable of causing illness as much
as curing it, the Healer template can easily be converted to the Pestilant
template, simply by making the Int + Medicine roll harm instead of heal and
replace healing Boons with decaying Boons)

Hunter – The Creature is not merely a powerful creature in its own right, but
an unparalleled tracker, with senses that dwarf even the hyper-sensitive
senses of their mortal counterparts. Creatures with the Hunter template
typically take Epic Perception as their Associated Epic, though Dexterity is
also common. With each additional dot of Legend, they gain 5 bonus points
for the purchase of thematically appropriate Boons to either better track their
prey (Night Eyes, Penetrating Glare, Unerring Orientation, Judgement, etc.)
or to hide from their prey (Shadow Refuge, etc.).

Mount – These Creatures primarily serve as the steeds of the Scion in

question. They have abilities that primarily allow them to travel quickly and
over long distances. Most can fly as a prerequisite. Many take Epic Dexterity
as their Associated Epic, but Strength and Stamina are equally important
(particularly those Knacks that allow them to carry heavier loads and not tire
easily). As they progress, they gain 5 bonus points to purchase Boons from the
Psychopomp Purview, as well as those that allow alternate means of access
(Such as Earth Travel).

Nemean – Only available when the Scion is a Demigod.

For the cost of 1 Willpower and 5 Legend points, the Creature instantly
assumes a Nemean form. In this form, the Creature’s size doubles, its Physical
Attributes double, and it gains a hide with an armor bonus of +4A/8L/8B.

Protector – The Creature is made to be the Scion’s guardian. Protectors have

a specialized version of Vigil Brand that is attuned to their Scion and always
on, such that they always know where their Scion is and if they are in danger.
Creatures with the Protector template typically take Epic Stamina as their
Associated Epic. They additionally gain an additional 5 bonus points for the
purpose of buying Guardian Boons and other powers that render them
immune to certain forms of damage (Fire Immunity, Sky’s Grace, etc.).

Purview Channel – These creatures act as Relics that channel a Purview. They
may also use any Boons the Scion knows in that Purview, regardless of the
Creature’s own Legend.

Titanic – Only available when the Scion is a God.

For the cost of 1 Willpower and 10 Legend points, the Creature takes on one of
the templates of the Titans (luminous, infernal, geotic, etc.), with all the
benefits and weaknesses typical of such a being. If this template is taken
twice, the titanic form provides both templates simultaneously (a phoenix
having both luminous and infernal qualities, for example).

Typhonian – Only available when the Scion is a God.

For the cost of 1 Willpower and 10 Legend points, the Creature instantly
assumes a Typhonian form. In this form, the Creature’s size multiplies by 100,
its Physical Attributes quadruple, and it gains a hide with an armor bonus of
+8A/16L/16B.

Undying – Simply put, the Creature cannot die permanently. This isn’t to say
that the Creature necessarily cannot die at all, just that the Creature returns
to life afterwards, usually being stored in a Relic, although some Undying
Creatures simply spring back to life after taking a hit. Creatures with the
Undying template typically take Epic Stamina as their Associated Epic.
Additionally, they gain an extra two -0 health levels with each dot of Legend
they accrue. A Legend 10 Undying Creature additionally acts as a “soul jar”. If
the God suffers an attack that might kill them, the attack fails to kill them as
long as the Creature remains alive (though they may still be incapacitated,
unconscious, or in severe pain). However, if the Scion and the Creature are
both given lethal blows, they die, unless the Scion has Ultimate Stamina or
some other means of returning from death (in which case, the Creature is
reborn alongside them).

Pantheon Specific: These creature templates are only compatible with

their associated Pantheon. Other types may be added.

Genjyu – Amatsukami
Means “phantom beast”, a generic term for fantastic creatures. These
creatures transcend their mortal counterparts, and are often considered lesser
kami in their own right.

•A genjyu adds a bonus to their Scion’s use of Tsukumo-Gami equal to their

dot value. At the Hero level, the genjyu’s presence adds their dot value as dice
to the roll. At Demigod level, they add autosuccesses equal to their dot value.
At God level, they add Epic autosuccesses equal to their dot value (2 dots = 2
successes, 3 dots = 4 successes, 4 dots = 7 successes, 5 dots = 11 successes).

Jotundyr – Aesir
Means “Giant beast”. This template means that an animal has a nature that
makes them more like the Aesir themselves, and thus are more receptive to
the effects of Jotunblut.

•When fed giant’s blood, a Jotundyr gains twice the Strength, Stamina, Epic
Strength, Epic Stamina, and health levels that a mortal creature would.
•A Jotundyr is also much more physically intimidating, such that it might, as a
Speed 5 action, glance at an opponent of lesser Legend and cause it to flee
(Essentially Dreadful Mien, but does not rely on Epic Appearance).

•Jotundyr hate giants, and by eating a giant’s heart, may replenish Willpower
and regain Legend points equal to the giant’s Legend rating.

•At Legend 5, The Jotundyr gains the Boon Fury of War for free.

•At Legend 10, The Jotundyr’s natural weapons do Aggravated damage.

(Note that the effects of Jotunblut stack alongside any general Creature
template. Jotundyr simply benefit MORE)

Nagual – Aztlanti
The Aztecs divided the soul into three parts, one of which is the nagual, the
spirit animal. Scions can take their own nagual as a Birthright Creature.

•Naguals are fatefully linked to their Scion in a permanent version of the spell
Heart of Mine.

•When fighting together, both reap the effects of Perfect Partner for free.

•The Aztecs believed a nagual originated in a person’s liver. As such, a Scion

may dismiss his Nagual, whereupon it becomes intangible and stored in the
Scion’s body.

•The Scion and nagual become more in tune with each other, able to
communicate with each other telepathically for 1 Legend point (lasts the
scene). Additionally, the Scion may spend 1L to see through the nagual’s eyes
(ala the Cheval Boon Rada’s Eyes).

•When the Scion uses Ride Animal, she may physically transport her body
inside the nagual’s (ala the Cheval Boon Met Tet).

•A nagual adds a bonus to their Scion’s use of the Animal Purview equal to
their dot value. At the Hero level, the nagual’s presence adds their dot value
as dice to the roll. At Demigod level, they add autosuccesses equal to their dot
value. At God level, they add Epic autosuccesses equal to their dot value (2
dots = 2 successes, 3 dots = 4 successes, 4 dots = 7 successes, 5 dots = 11
successes).

•Starting at Legend 5, the nagual reaps identical Legend from the Scion’s use
of Itztli
