2-Dot Animals – Ape, Bear, Boar, Cat (Big), Crocodile, Dolphin, Elephant,
Horse, Shark, Wolf
I tended to err towards lower dot values with some of the animal stats. I
personally don’t think any mundane animal should be listed as a 3-dot
Creature simply because Epic Attributes make even an elephant’s huge stat
boosts very obsolete very quickly.
Most of these stats work fine enough, and can easily be adapted to other
animals, with a few minor tweaks (a rabbit being a rat with an extra dot of
Dex, for example, an armadillo would be a rat with +2L/2B armor, etc.).
Some animals that I think we really could use stats for include…
Draconic – Only available when the Scion is a Demigod. All dragons have a
hide that grants them Lethal Soak equal to their mundane Stamina and
Bashing Soak equal to twice their mundane Stamina, before their Epic
Stamina dots are applied. Dragons also possess a breath weapon as detailed in
Scion: Demigod, with the specific elemental attack dependent on the type of
dragon. Dragons may also take on a human form, while retaining their
draconic powers.
Familiar – The Creature is associated with witches and sorcery, and thus aid
Scions in their mystical endeavors. Familiars have Occult 3 and an additional
10 dots to add to abilities. Familiars are capable of human speech, and are
usually highly intelligent. A familiar adds a bonus to their Scion’s use of
Magic, Mystery, or Prophecy equal to their dot value. At the Hero level, the
familiar’s presence adds their dot value as dice to the roll. At Demigod level,
they add autosuccesses equal to their dot value. At God level, they add Epic
autosuccesses equal to their dot value (2 dots = 2 successes, 3 dots = 4
successes, 4 dots = 7 successes, 5 dots = 11 successes). A Familiar that reaches
Legend 10 may act as a channel for any Magic spells the Scion knows, and in
the Familiar’s presence, may reroll any failed Magic, Mystery, or Prophecy
roll as though using Legend without risking an additional Fatebinding.
Fighter – The Creature is a particularly fierce fighter, often with some form of
weapon or attack power that similar mortal animals do not possess (A
serpopard’s venom, or a manticore’s spiked tail). Creatures with the Fighter
template typically take Epic Strength as their Associated Epic. Their skills in
battle only increase along with their Legend. Upon gaining a new dot of
Legend, the Creature gains 5 bonus points to allocate to their natural weapons
or take thematically appropriate attack Boons. A Fighter that reaches Legend
10 automatically adds dice equal to their Legend to Accuracy and Damage
rolls.
Guide Channel – These creatures are intelligent enough that they may act as
Guides to their Scions as well as Creatures. The Scion must purchase the
Guide Birthright in addition, at the proper dot value. Creature/Guides are
more common at Demigod and God, but some Heroes may possess them.
These Guides tend to act more like Creatures than Guides, but as the Scion
grows in power, they are more able, and willing, to share their wisdom with
their charges.
Hunter – The Creature is not merely a powerful creature in its own right, but
an unparalleled tracker, with senses that dwarf even the hyper-sensitive
senses of their mortal counterparts. Creatures with the Hunter template
typically take Epic Perception as their Associated Epic, though Dexterity is
also common. With each additional dot of Legend, they gain 5 bonus points
for the purchase of thematically appropriate Boons to either better track their
prey (Night Eyes, Penetrating Glare, Unerring Orientation, Judgement, etc.)
or to hide from their prey (Shadow Refuge, etc.).
Purview Channel – These creatures act as Relics that channel a Purview. They
may also use any Boons the Scion knows in that Purview, regardless of the
Creature’s own Legend.
Undying – Simply put, the Creature cannot die permanently. This isn’t to say
that the Creature necessarily cannot die at all, just that the Creature returns
to life afterwards, usually being stored in a Relic, although some Undying
Creatures simply spring back to life after taking a hit. Creatures with the
Undying template typically take Epic Stamina as their Associated Epic.
Additionally, they gain an extra two -0 health levels with each dot of Legend
they accrue. A Legend 10 Undying Creature additionally acts as a “soul jar”. If
the God suffers an attack that might kill them, the attack fails to kill them as
long as the Creature remains alive (though they may still be incapacitated,
unconscious, or in severe pain). However, if the Scion and the Creature are
both given lethal blows, they die, unless the Scion has Ultimate Stamina or
some other means of returning from death (in which case, the Creature is
reborn alongside them).
Genjyu – Amatsukami
Means “phantom beast”, a generic term for fantastic creatures. These
creatures transcend their mortal counterparts, and are often considered lesser
kami in their own right.
Jotundyr – Aesir
Means “Giant beast”. This template means that an animal has a nature that
makes them more like the Aesir themselves, and thus are more receptive to
the effects of Jotunblut.
•When fed giant’s blood, a Jotundyr gains twice the Strength, Stamina, Epic
Strength, Epic Stamina, and health levels that a mortal creature would.
•A Jotundyr is also much more physically intimidating, such that it might, as a
Speed 5 action, glance at an opponent of lesser Legend and cause it to flee
(Essentially Dreadful Mien, but does not rely on Epic Appearance).
•Jotundyr hate giants, and by eating a giant’s heart, may replenish Willpower
and regain Legend points equal to the giant’s Legend rating.
•At Legend 5, The Jotundyr gains the Boon Fury of War for free.
Nagual – Aztlanti
The Aztecs divided the soul into three parts, one of which is the nagual, the
spirit animal. Scions can take their own nagual as a Birthright Creature.
•Naguals are fatefully linked to their Scion in a permanent version of the spell
Heart of Mine.
•When fighting together, both reap the effects of Perfect Partner for free.
•The Scion and nagual become more in tune with each other, able to
communicate with each other telepathically for 1 Legend point (lasts the
scene). Additionally, the Scion may spend 1L to see through the nagual’s eyes
(ala the Cheval Boon Rada’s Eyes).
•When the Scion uses Ride Animal, she may physically transport her body
inside the nagual’s (ala the Cheval Boon Met Tet).
•A nagual adds a bonus to their Scion’s use of the Animal Purview equal to
their dot value. At the Hero level, the nagual’s presence adds their dot value
as dice to the roll. At Demigod level, they add autosuccesses equal to their dot
value. At God level, they add Epic autosuccesses equal to their dot value (2
dots = 2 successes, 3 dots = 4 successes, 4 dots = 7 successes, 5 dots = 11
successes).
•Starting at Legend 5, the nagual reaps identical Legend from the Scion’s use
of Itztli
