Dear Sir,

Uncollected Rubbish in Taman Manja

Referring to the subject above, I would like to highlight the problems that it has caused among
residents in Taman Manja. It is indeed sad, that we have to live in dismal conditions brought by this
problem.

2. Rubbish in our area has not been collected for more than a week now. Before his, the rubbish was
collected every three days. We do not know why our rubbish has been sitting in front of our gates
overflowing from the bin. Are the garbage collectors all on vacation?

3. Due to the rubbish not being collected, stray dogs, cats and sometimes even monkeys have
ventured into the bins gnawing through the plastics containing the rubbish. As a result, our roads are
scattered with food scraps, cans containing leftover soured milk and other oily residue from the
kitchen. The stench is unbearable and some of the residents have resorted to wearing face masks.

4. The rubbish attracts flies and water left in containers are becoming a breeding ground for
mosquitoes. On top of our living in a smelly, unsanitary environment, we have to worry about the
possibility of a dengue outbreak in the area.

5. We have done our part to make our living conditions as bearable as possible, taking turns to take
as many garbage bags as we can to the nearest rubbish dump. We also pick up the rubbish clogging
our drains, those scattered on the roads and also in our compound. However, we cannot keep doing
this as we have our work, school and family to attend to.

6. We have called up the municipal council help line numerous times to no avail. Most of the time
we are put on hold or are given the false promise of our problems will be attended to promptly. It’s
now nearing week two. We hope that something is done immediately to rectify this problem.

Thank you.
Yours sincerely,
Al.Bakri
