Assignment1-1BenKilbourne

Population by race in the top 10 US states

Ben Kilbourne

Exhibit 1. Top 10 Most Populous States and Territories, year 2010.

The most populous states in the United States are predictably coastal or otherwise on large
bodies of water. The west has significantly lower populations due likely to aridity. High population also
seems to generally align with high GDP in these states.
Exhibit 2. Statistics on Population by race.

The 10 states with the highest populations have about 53% of the total population of the United
States. Slightly more than average Black and Asian populations live in these areas. Significantly less than
average American Indian and Pacific Islander live in these areas. About half of the white population in
the United States live in these areas.
