Sura Adiyat (or Those that run)

In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

The discussion in this Sura is about the ingratitude on the part of the
man. Whereas he is keen on the accumulation of riches and worldly gains that
are to perish, he is quite oblivious to his resurrection and requital on the Day
of the Judgement.

This Sura may be divided into three sections. The first is a series of
oaths by horses in the state of war. The horses engaged in intensive activity at
the battle-front can cause sparks of fire to emit from under their hoofs. The
second section is the assertion that man is ungrateful to Allah and violently
love wealth. The final section is a reminder to such people that all those who
are buried in graves shall be resurrected on the Day of Judgement. On that
Day He shall be fully aware about the intentions and deeds of all disbelievers.
They shall all be in attendance before Him and Lord Almighty will reveal to
them secrets which they had long forgotten; for the account of their deeds will
be made manifest at Judgement.

Allah says: I swear by the panting swift chargers that strike sparks of
fire from stones (by the hoofs), then raid at down, thereby raising dust, then
they penetrate directly (the enemy) force. Surely man is ungrateful to his Lord.
To this he himself shall bear witness.

And truly on account of his love of wealth he is niggardly. Is he not

aware that when those in the graves are raised and what is in the breasts is laid
open, their Lord on that Day will be knowing?
