LESSON PLAN IN MATHEMATICS 5

I. OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the lesson the students are expected to:
a. Cognitive: define ratio and proportion in understandable way.
b. Identify the ratio of the given examples in 90% accuracy.
c. Psychomotor: Solve for the missing term of the given proportion
d. Participate in the group activities attentively.
e. Affective: Value the importance of ratio and proportion in real life
situations.

II. SUBJECT MATTER:

a. TOPIC: Ratio and Proportion
b. References: Mathematics for a better life pp 192-197,

proportion
c. Materials: Power Point, Pictures, Puzzles, Manila paper, Illustration board

III. PROCEDURE

TEACHER’S ACTIVITY STUDENT’S ACTIVITY

A. PREPARATION
1. Greetings
Good morning class! Good morning teacher.
Ok class remain standing for Amen.
our prayer, _____ please lead the
prayer.
Ok please sit down.
So how are you this morning? We’re good teacher, how about you?
I’m good too.
Ok all of you are present today,

so before we proceed to our discussion kindly (the students pick up pieces of paper
pick up pieces of paper under your chairs. under their chairs.)

B. Review
So what was our previous topic? Fraction ma’am
Very good, so as a recap, give the equivalent
Fractions of the following figure.

2/3

2/7

Yesterday we also discussed how to simplify fraction. Yes, Teacher.

So this one reduce it to lowest term.

5/10 Stud1. The GCF is 5
½is the lowest term ma’am

Very good! So is this clear to you class? Yes ma’am

C. Motivation
Okay now take a look at this picture,
What can you see? Apples and basket ma’am.
Very good! Now how many apples are there? 6
Yes! How about the baskets? 2
Exactly. This illustration states that
There are 6 apples and 2 baskets. Which of these
two set has the higher quantity? The apple ma’am
Very good.
How about this one?

9/18 5/10

What did you see? Fractions

Very good! Are they equal to
Each other? Yes ma’am

Why? Because if we reduce them to lowest

Term it become equal: ½ and ½
Very good!

D. PRESENTATION
Based on the given example do you have any
Idea about what our topic for today? None ma’am

Ok I have here a puzzle , in this puzzle you can

Find our topic for today. Who wants to find it?
Yes ________ Student1 will encircle the word ratio
Another 1..________ Student2 will encircle the word proportion
Very good our lesson for today is RATIO AND
PROPORTION!!

E. DISCUSSION
I will show you first a word problem.
Please read! (everyone read)
Ronald bought 3 pencils for 10 pesos at Elen’s School Supply
Store. Ruby bought 6 pencils for 20 pesos. Compare the pencils to
the amount of each child.
Who wants to compare the pencils of Ronald?
Stud1 3 to 10 ma’am
How about Ruby?
Stud2 6 to 20 ma’am

Now based on what I present to you how do you

Ratio is the comparison of two
define the RATIO?
Quantities or numbers ma’am
Yes that’s nice. Ratio is the comparison
Of two or more quantities
It can be written in two ways
2:5 or 2/5
Colon(to) or fraction
Ok I have here another problem.

In miss Lakandula’s class ,there are 3 books

For every 6 pupils.
Now give me the ratio of books to pupils 3:6 or 3/6 ma’am
Very good!
Can we simplify it? Yes ma’am
How? The GCF is 3
We simply divide the numerator and
denominator to 3 and the answer is 1/2

Very good!_______
So we can say that 3/6 is equal to ½? Yes ma’am

So if the two ratio are equal we called it

PROPORTION!
We can also find out if the two ratio are equal
If their cross product are equal.

Let’s have another example: Yes ma’am the GCF is 3

7:10 and 21/30 do a ratio form a proportion? In cross multiplication 7x30=210
And 10x21=210
Here’s another one.
8/9 and 2/3

Do the ratios form a proportion? No ma’am

Why? Because their GCF and cross product are
not the same.
Very good! Because the gcf of the numerator is 4
And the denominator is 3

How about this one? 16/___= 4/5?

Anyone? The GCF of the denominator is 4 the
missing is denominator. So 5x 4= 20
The missing term is 20

Very good to check

16x5=80
4x20=80

Now let’s have an activity (may 2 students akong tatawagin tas

maguunahan sa pag sagot NOTE: lage pong
Find the ratio orally! may reward lahat ng nakakasagot!!)

So, is ratio and proportion clear to you? Yes ma’am

Ok class count 1 to 3 for our groupings

Class the fastest group to finish in correct answer this (sabay saby po bukas ng envelope!
activity, will have a prize Bibilangin lang po yung sa ratio taz yung
proportion may sagot napo unahan lang
magsulat )

Let’s summarize our lesson for today!

What is ratio? Ratio is the comparison between two
numbers!
How about the proportion? Proportion is an equation stating that two
ratios are equal!

Very good!
Ok class do you understand the ratio and proportion?? Yes ma’am

We can also use ratio in baking, who loves to eat cakes or

cupcakes? Ma’am(raising hands)
For examples the no. of egg to flour is 6 eggs to 12 cup
6:12 or 1/2

Now to know if you fully understand the ratio and

proportion I give you a short quiz.

Eto na po yung sagot

1. 6:8 or 6/8 or ¾
2. 8:4 or 8/4 or 2/1
3. 4:3 or 4/3
4. 6/4 or 6:4 or 3/2
5. 6:3 or 6/3 or 2/1
6. 8:3 or 8/3
7. 3:4 or 3/4

1. 16
2. 20
3. 30
4. 15
5. 32
ASSIGNMENT
Bigay ko nalng po!!
Ok class please arrange your chairs.
That’s all for today class see you tom. Goodbye and thankyou ma’am!
