Function(s) of Instructional Software (check all that apply):
Simulation
Features of the Software (check all that apply):
Accessible to students beyond the school day, Accessible via mobile devices but no mobile app
available, Safety, security, and/or privacy features
Strengths of the Software: Very creative, critical thinking, realistic approaches in the world
Suggestions for Improvement: It could be more interactive. Say for example, you can click on an option
in the “would you rather” and you could see other students’ votes and arguments for or against each
choice.
Standards Addressed:
SSEPF1 Apply rational decision making to personal spending and saving choices.
a) Use a rational decision making model to evaluate the costs and benefits of post-high school life choices

INSTRUCTIONAL SOFTWARE

Description of how to implement in the class:

Instructional Plan: I would use this software for an interactive lesson on reinforcing mathematical tools
like addition and multiplication while adding in the real-world personal finance aspect in budgeting.
Students will learn how to use rational decision making in choosing an option, and then be able to justify
why they chose one option over the other. There are many ways I could use this, and one way could be
groups. Each group would get a “would you rather” question, and decide on an option and justify why
they chose their option based on mathematical reasoning. They could use small white boards or speak out
to the class about their findings, and see how their reasonings may differ from other classmates.

Equipment Needed: Equipment that I would need in order to use this software would be a projector for
the class to see. Each group/person will have a way to read and see the options given and be able to
decide on what they chose. I would also need a doc-cam to project the students’ work on the board to
show other classmates their mathematical reasoning behind their choice.

This would be more of a student-led activity into where they would be able to justify their option, and
prove to me and the class why they chose the option. This would be great for group work to bounce ideas
off of each other in deciding, and also individual to make choices by themselves to see what would be the
best option for them.

* Examples of common instructional models include whole group, teacher-led, student self-paced, small
group, or individual learning activities. Use as many of these descriptors or other descriptors as apply.
