BASIC LIST CALCULATIONS

1. Calculate the angle of list when a weight of 40 t is shifted from port to starboard
through a distance of 15 m given that the displacement is 9600 t, KG 4.86 m and KM
5.28 m if the ship is initially upright.
(8.46 Stbd)

2. A ship initially upright has a displacement of 11000 t and loads a weight of 80 t on

the port side Kg 12.00 m, 6.5 m off the CL. Given that the initial KG is 4.20 m and
KM is 4.68 m calculate the resulting list.
(6.31 Port)

3. Determine how much cargo to load at a distance of 6.00 m off the CL and 9.00 m
above the keel for the ship to correct the list given:
Initial list 5.5 Port, displacement 6000 t, GM 0.48 m and KG 4.20 m.
(46.2 t)

4. Calculate the final angle of list for a ship displacing 8000 t, GM 0.60 m if the ship is
initially listed 4 the Port, after a weight of 40 t has been shifted from the port side of
the upper deck to the starboard side of the lower hold, through horizontal and vertical
distances of 9.00 m and 15.00 m respectively.
(0.26 Stbd)

5. A ship displacing 9900 t has GM 0.75 m, KG 4.81 m and is listed 3 to stbd. 120 t of
cargo remains to be loaded and space is available 4.61 m to port of CL and 7.20 m to
stbd of CL, both at a Kg of 4.81 m. How much must be loaded in each space for the
ship to complete upright.
(106 t P, 14 t S)

6. A ship has a displacement of 9000 t and is listed 4 to stbd with GM 30 cm and KG

9.00 m. 70 t is discharged from a position Kg 10.66 m, 6.10 m to stbd off the CL and
270 t of water is pumped into the stbd DB tank, Kg 0.61 m, 0.30 m from the CL.
Calculate the final list.
(5.93 Port)
