Bullying Definition

Bullying is repeated verbal, physical, social or psychological aggressive behaviour by a

person or group directed towards a less powerful person or group that is intended to cause
harm, distress or fear. In order to be considered bullying, the behavior must be aggressive
and include:
 An Imbalance of Power: Kids who bully use their power—such as physical strength, access
to embarrassing information, or popularity—to control or harm others. Power imbalances
can change over time and in different situations, even if they involve the same people.
 Repetition: Bullying behaviors happen more than once or have the potential to happen more
than once.
Bullying includes actions such as making threats, spreading rumors, attacking someone
physically or verbally, and excluding someone from a group on purpose.

Is when a child, preteen or teen is tormented, threatened, harassed, humiliated, embarrassed
or otherwise targeted by another child this kind of bullying Cyberbullying uses cell phones,
instant messaging, e-mail, chat rooms or social networking sites such
as Facebook and Twitter to harass, threaten or intimidate someone.

Cyberbullying is often done by children, who have increasingly early access to these
technologies. The problem is compounded by the fact that a bully can hide behind
apseudonymous user name, disguising his or her true identity. This secrecy makes it difficult
to trace the source and encourages bullies to behave more aggressively than they might in a
situation where they were identified.
