TITLE: BULLYING AMONGTS STUDENTS AND IT’S IMPACTS ON THEIR QUALITY OF EDUCATION AT

NATABUA CAMPUSE.

Introduction

Bullying is a word that is used with a lot of meaning, it can be defined as the actions such as threats,
spreading rumors about someone , attacking someone physically, verbally and excluding someone
from the group, harassment, discrimination and violence are all interpersonal behavior’s that can
create or contribute to negative social situations and school environments. Bullying is an ongoing
and deliberate misuse of power in relationships through repeated verbal, physical and/or social
behavior that intends to cause physical, social and/or psychological harm. It can involve an individual
or a group misusing their power, or perceived power, over one or more persons who feel unable to
stop it from happening. Bullying can happen in person or online, via various digital platforms and
devices and it can be obvious (overt) or hidden (covert). Bullying behavior is repeated, or has the
potential to be repeated, over time (for example, through sharing of digital records). Bullying of any
form or for any reason can have immediate, medium and long-term effects on those involved,
including bystanders. Single incidents and conflict or fights between equals, whether in person or
online, are not defined as bullying.

Types of Bullying

There are three types of bullying:

1. Verbal bullying which includes name calling or insulting someone about physical
characteristics such as their weight or height, or other attributes including race, sexuality,
culture, or religion. Some victims may suffer physical harm alongside the verbal bullying, but
the long-term effects can be serious even when there's no physical harm. In extreme cases,
verbal bullying can even result in suicide attempts. Many victims of verbal bullying are
affected in very real ways. Verbal bullying can affect one’s self image and affect someone in
emotional and psychological ways. This type of bullying can lead to low self-esteem, as well
as depression and other problems.
2. Physical bullying which includes hitting or otherwise hurting someone, shoving or
intimidating another person, or damaging or stealing their belongings. Physical bullying is a
serious problem, affecting not only the bully and the victim, but also the other students who
witness the bullying. Parents, teachers, and other concerned adults and young people
should be aware of what a physical bully is and some of the ways to handle it. There are
many types of negative physical interactions that can occur between young people, including
fighting, practical jokes, stealing, and sexual harassment. These things are not considered as
physical bullying unless, the same victim is targeted repeatedly , the bully or bullies intend to
hurt, embarrass or intimidate the victim , the actions occur in a situation with a real or
perceived imbalance power, such as when the bully is stronger than the victim or has a
higher social standards. Physical bullying can come in many forms such as hitting, pushing,
tripping, slapping, spiting stealing or destroying possessions like lunch, books etc.
3. Social bullying/ Cyber Bullying which includes consistently excluding another person or
sharing information or images that will have a harmful effect on the other person.
Cyberbullying is bullying that takes place over digital devices like cell phones, computers,
and tablets. Cyberbullying can occur through SMS, Text, and apps, or online in social media,
forums, or gaming where people can view, participate in, or share content.
Cyberbullying includes sending, posting, or sharing negative, harmful, false, or mean content
about someone else. It can include sharing personal or private information about someone else
causing embarrassment or humiliation. Some cyberbullying crosses the line into unlawful or
criminal behavior.
