Assalamualaikum and a very good morning to the honourable judges, accurate time keeper, teachers

and my fellow friends. Today, I will present you a speech entitled “The impact of bullying”.

Members of the floor,

What is bullying?

Bullying is unwanted, aggressive behaviour among school aged children that involves a real or
perceived power imbalance. The behaviour is repeated, or has the potential to be repeated, over
and over again. Both kids who are bullied and who bully others may have serious, lasting problems.

How to consider an action is bullying?

In order to be considered bullying, first, the behaviour must be aggressive and include an imbalance
of power where the kids who bully use their power such as physical strength, access to embarrassing
information, or popularity in order to control or harm others. Power imbalances can change over
time and in different situations, even if they involve the same people.

Secondly, there must be a repetition of action. It means the bullying behaviours happen more than
once or have the potential to happen more than once.

Finally, the bullying includes actions such as making threats, spreading rumors, attacking someone
physically or verbally, and excluding someone from a group on purpose.

My dear friends,

Do you know there three types of bullying?

First is the verbal bullying. Verbal bullying is saying or writing mean things towards others. This
includes the act of teasing, name-calling, inappropriate sexual comments and threatening to cause
harm to others.

Second, is the Social bullying. It sometimes referred to as relational bullying, involves hurting
someone’s reputation or relationships. Social bullying includes leaving someone out on purpose like
telling other children not to be friends with someone, spreading rumours about someone or
embarrassing someone in public.

Third, is the Physical bullying. It involves hurting a person’s body or possessions. Physical bullying
includes hitting, kicking, pinching, spitting, tripping, pushing, taking or breaking someone’s things or
making mean or rude hand gestures towards others.

My dear friends,

Bullying can occur during or after school hours. While most reported bullying happens in the school
building, a significant percentage also happens in places like on the playground or the bus. It can also
happen travelling to or from school, in the youth’s neighbourhood, or on the Internet.

Bullying can affect everyone including those who are bullied, those who bully, and those who
witness bullying. Bullying is linked to many negative outcomes including impacts on mental health,
substance use, and suicide. It is important to talk to kids to determine whether bullying take place or
not.

My friends,
Kids who are bullied can experience negative physical, school, and mental health issues. Kids who
are bullied are more likely to experience depression and anxiety, increased feelings of sadness and
loneliness, changes in sleep and eating patterns, and loss of interest in activities they used to enjoy.
These issues may prolong until they become an adult. They might also suffered decreased academic
achievements in school They are more likely to miss, skip, or drop out of school.

Bullying may also cause problems to the kids Who Bully Others.

Kids who bully others can also engage in violent and other risky behaviours in their adulthood. Kids
who bully are more likely to get into fights, vandalize property, and drop out of school, engage in
early sexual activity, have criminal convictions and be abusive toward their romantic partners,
spouses, or children as adults.

My dear friends,

Kids who are bullied are at risk of committing suicide. This risk can be increased further when these
kids are not supported by parents, peers, and schools. This is because they felt ashamed, down and
depressed. As such we should treat others with kindness and respect. We must ensure there is no
place for bullying. Lets us create a world free from bullying. Thank you.
