Lidded Slab Box

Objective: Students will practice and expand on different clay techniques by creating a slab box with a
removable lid. Students will learn and apply glaze techniques

Instructions
1. Use the Earth Tome to complete the clay vocabulary. There will be a quiz on
Clay terms
2. Select a theme from the MAGICAL BOX OF THEMES
3. Design 2 sketches. Include: decorations, feet and/or handles (optional),
dimensions
***Possible Dimensions: Bottom and Top= 6x4 Side 1= 3x4 Side 2= 6x4***
4. Cut templates out of paper to specific dimensions. Label
Last check and adjustments before cutting slabs DON’T FORGET THE LID
5. Set slabs aside to become early leather, work on decorations
6. Score and slip slabs together.
7. Add decorations/carvings
8. Make sure lid fits, add feet and handles if needed
9. Let dry. Glaze after bisque fire.
