A passage to India was a story about the behaviors of the British’s towards the local people.
They felt superior and their behavior towards local people was very immoral and it describe
difficulties of friendship between the ruling class and the subjugated. A story starts by visiting of
two ladies were Mrs. Moore and Ms. Adela from England towards India. These ladies had no
idea about the mentality of the British who rule in India, they think British behave like same as
British government behaves with our public. These ladies want to meet with local people and
observe their culture and way of living. City magistrate, Mr. Ronny was a son of Mrs. Moore and
faience of Ms. Adela, he appeals them to avoid the local people but Mrs. Moore force to meet
and observe their culture, then they arrange a party and call all the community, Mrs. Moore, and
Ms. Adela noticed the attitude of British’s towards local people which were very miserable.
During a party, these ladies met with Muslim doctor, Dr. Aziz and Mr. Fielding who was
principal of the college. Fielding was a very nice man, he was totally different than other British,
he gave respect to each. Dr. Aziz invited these ladies on his house, then he thinks my house was
very modest and it's not according to British’s ladies then they present another plan to visit
maraber caves which were outside of a city. These ladies were very happy to visit the caves.
when they share the news with the magistrate, he was very shocked and says you are visiting
these caves with Muslim? After insisting on Mrs. Moore, they allow visiting with Dr. Aziz. As
plan all of them reached the railway station and moves towards caves, there are many caves in
the mountains they start from the lowest one, Mrs. Moore Ms. Adela Dr. Aziz and guide enter
the cave, in cave there are echoes, voice repeat many times, because of echo Mrs. Moore who
was an old lady, her mind was disturbed, and she leaves the cave and takes rest. Second cave was
at some height. They hiked and reach the cave, during hiking Ms. Adela ask about love and
marriage, these types of conversation hurt Dr. Aziz because her wife has died, and he loved her
badly, after reaching the top of the mountain, Dr. Aziz excuse the Ms. Adela and going to smoke.
Ms. Adela enters the cave, her mind was disturbed because of echo, she thinks someone tries
hares her, her body was full of blood and cloths was torn, she runs fast and sits on the car and
moves toward home. Dr. Aziz see all the scenario, and he was shocked what happened? When
Dr. Aziz and Ms. Moore reached the railway station, Dr. Aziz was under the custody of police
under the charge of try to harassment with Ms. Adela. Dr. Aziz was profoundly shocked because
he was a very respectful citizen and he even doesn’t think about Adela because he loves her wife
so much. Dr. Aziz friends and Mr. Fielding hire the lawyer for defending his case, in court, Ms
Adela withdraws her accusations and Aziz is acquitted. Ms. Adela consider a lot of problems
how they confront their English community because this case hurt every English man because
they defeated by a modest Indian, Ms. Adela move back to England, and Dr. Aziz also leave the
India which is under British rule, he moves to Srinagar and enjoys their life.
