Structures
Mr. Hendy Industries
Learning Goal
We are learning to: identify and
classify the four main types of
structures
First, let’s take a look at some
famous structures.
What are they? Where are they?
What is their function?
Solid Structures
•Solid structures use solid construction to
support loads
•For example: A concrete dam uses a solid
structure to hold back the extremely heavy
weight of the water

Frame Structures
•Frame structures are a network of
parts that support loads
•For example: The Eifel Tower in Paris is a
frame structure

Shell Structures
•Shell structures use a hollow, curved
surface for strength and rigidity
•For example: A bike helmet is a shell
structure

Combination Structure
•Combination Structures make use of some or
all of the different structure types in one
structure
•For example: A house is a combination structure
because it makes use of a solid foundation, a
wooden frame, and a shell roof
