Organization Profile

Rajarata University of Sri Lanka , located in the historic city of Mihintale, which is situated
14 kilometres away from the east of Anuradhapura, was established on 31 of January, 1996.
It envisages to highlight the city, Mihintale, which marks the inception of the Sri Lankan
social development, as one of the most prominent centre of the present academic arena in the
Sri Lankan history. Through this, it is expected to produce virtuous, intellectual and
competent citizens for the needs of the 21 st century.

At the inception, four faculties namely Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Faculty of
Management Studies, Faculty of Agriculture and Faculty of Applied Sciences were
established and in the year 2006, the Faculty of Medicine and Applied Sciences was
established as the fifth faculty of RUSL. The faculties of Social Sciences and Humanities,
Faculty of Management Studies and Faculty of Applied Sciences are conveniently located in
the Mihintale premises while the Faculties of Agriculture and Medicine and Allied Sciences
are situated in Puliyankulama and Saliyapura respectively.

During the past twowentee years, the contribution made to tertiary education by Rajarata
University of Sri Lanka is immense.
Current Situation of the organization

 Existing system is highly depend on the manual based excel related system and it will
cause for lots of errors occurrence in the system it’s very hard to handle.

 Current process has less security and it causes to troubles when unauthorized persons
can access to the information.

 Historical data easily can be destroyed, stolen and use for unauthorized purposes.

 No Historical data for particular student results.

 There is not having enough features to manipulate data in a proper way. Information
can be scattered, redundant and collecting relevant information may be very time
consuming.

 Finally the organization needs to design a software solution to maintain in related


information about examine result as a solution for a current situation.
Objectives of the Project

 The objectives of the project is to Automat the Student Result Handling Process.

 In this software one can very easily add student's record, sort student's record, search
student's record, compute (using algorithms), and view all student's records.

 When the results are release there send a message to the students.

 This application stand out among all others software in a way that it is user friendly
and can be modified easily as per the requirements. It allows user to add new/
view/sort/search records.

 There is opportunity to view results in online.

 In this can make reports important to decision makes.

 Both of workers can appear as admins & both of them can entry results.

User Requirement

• Provide an online Examination Information Systems to FMS, RUSL with the following
facilities.

– Historical exam results of a particular student.

– View of results.

– Print a result sheet.

– Record end semester exanimation and assignment marks.

the maximum amount of memory that the program takes
up during runtime.

 The software must run on a standard PC.

 Only admin can modify the system.

 This system can be easily used. Due to the reliability of this system
it is useful to overcome the drawbacks that arise using a manual
system.

• Organizational requirement

 The system must built using only freely-available


software.

 Implementation: system must be implemented in Java & MySQL.

 The software must be ready in six months.

 The software must run on Microsoft Windows 2010.

 The student able to view results online also.


• External requirement

 The system access the student NIC number as the password, but student
should change the password as they at will.

 The sever should work 24 x 7.

 Hardware requirement
 Dual Core or higher Process.

 2 GB or 4 GB RAM.

 10 GB free HDD space.

 Local Area Network with internet connection.

 Printer.

 Software requirement
 Operating System: Windows OS

 Java with Net Beans.

 MySQL Server.

 MySQL Workbench.

 Web browser software.

1. students personnel details


• Students’ services unit sends the list of registration students.
• Dean provides selected list of students for degree programs.
• Assign Registration number and index numbers for students and record
details in the system.

• Alternatives
• Isn’t an issue students personal detail from the Student Service
Unit.
• When the students request to change the selected degree program.

2. Record course unit details


• Add the details from the PROSPECTUS
 Alternatives
• Changing of evaluation methods in timely.
• Changing of number of credits.
• Changing of syllabus in the time period.
3. Record end semester exanimation and assignment marks
• Select the particular unit.

• Enter first marking.

• Enter marking.

 Alternatives
• All the assignment marks will not provide from all
the Lectures.
• All the student will not represent to the all the

4. View results
• Enter user name & password.

• System checks the membership.

• Then click login button.

• Enter index number, year and semester.

• Then System display results.

 Alternatives
• Membership is not valid.

• Student/Subject/Marks details not available in the


system.

• If there user name or password are incorrect then using


RESET button user can enter details again.

• Using EXIT button user can exit from the system.
