Blue-Rumped Parrot Population and Actions Taken to Protect Them in Three

Countries in 2000, 2005 and 2010

Figure 1 displays the population of blue-rumped parrot in Indonesia, Thailand and Brunei in
2000, 2005 and 2010 whereas Table 1 shows the actions taken to protect them within the
same period. It can also be seen that the blue-rumped parrot population coincides with the
actions that was taken to protect them.

Initially, Indonesia had recorded the highest number of blue-rumped parrots(500) in

2000 as illegal hunting had been punished and awareness campaigns had been organized
while Brunei had the lowest population in 2000 with only 400 blue-rumped parrots recorded
because there was no action taken to protect them. Then, the number of blue-rumped
parrots in Indonesia rose from 500 to 600 in 2005 as they had taken another action by
protecting the habitat. Following this, the population in Indonesia had increased to 860 in
2010 where reserves were set up.

However, the number of blue-rumped parrots in Thailand had a sudden drop in 2005,
reaching a low of 300 from 480 in 2000 because there was no action taken to protect them.
For that, Thailand had taken its action by punishing illegal hunting and organizing awareness
campaigns in 2010 which result to a rise in the blue-rumped parrots population(400).

It can be concluded that the blue-rumped population rose when more actions taken
to protect them.
