My favourite book at the moment is George Orwell’s 1984. In 1949, the author wrote about his vision of the future and
the novel is both science-fiction and a frightening thriller.
One of the most famous parts of the story happens near the end. The main character, Winston Smith, is a prisoner
and he is taken to a room deep underground – Room 101. Winston doesn’t know why he is there.
In Room 101, Winston is tied to a chair and can’t move. A man called O’Brien enters the room and tells Winston that
the worst thing in the world is in the room and that the worst thing in the world is different for each person.
Then a guard enters Room 101 and he is carrying a box. Winston feels sick and very afraid because the box contains
the worst thing in the world for him – rats.
