Dagupan City proposes anti-fake news ordinance

DAGUPAN CITY – Social media users are being encouraged to take caution in sharing internet posts as
councilors here lobby a news ordinance setting a P5,000 fine on the spread of fake news.

The draft ordinance “Penalizing the spreading, reporting, and/or publishing of fake news and
misinformation in the City of Dagupan” is yet to pass first reading.

Councilor Jose Tamayo III, Chairman of the Peace and Order Committee, said this was written after a
bomb scare on the night of January 2, 2017.
