Library Fundraiser

The library fundraiser was held at my school in 12th of March 2017. It was organized by
the teachers and students to raise money for the school library.

Coupons were sold by the teachers and students before the bazaar. Only coupons could be
used to buy food or play games.

There was a variety of food and soft drinks that were sold on that day. There were nasi
lemak, fish and chips, spicy fried chicken and much more. Tit-bits like nuggets, French fries,
steamed groundnuts were also sold.

My class sold delicious spicy fried chicken. The steaming hot chicken was served with
tomato sauce or chili sauce. It was a hit. As a result, my class collected the most amount of
money. We made a profit of RM440.

During the school assembly the following Monday, our school principal praised us for
our teamwork and personal sacrifices. The reward was movie coupons for each of us.

We were all very proud of our achievement as well as being able to contribute to the

Question 5
Read the text below.

Hamsters make wonderful pets. These furry loveable animals are easy and inexpensive
to keep. With proper attention and care, hamsters can live up to five years.

When getting a hamster from a pet shop, you need to know which hamster to choose. An
ideal hamster is between 4 and 7 weeks old. Hamsters are easier to tame when they are
young. Choose a hamster that is in good physical condition as they are more likely to be
healthy.

Next, place the cage in a location away from direct sunlight. A hamster is a nocturnal
animal. They need to sleep and rest during the day. You should also pick a spot in the
house where you will frequently visit your hamster. Fill the cage with a 4-cm layer of
pine chips. Keep the pine chips dry. If the chips get wet, they may rot and cause your
hamster to get sick.

Keep a filled, clean water bottle attached to the cage at a height where the spout is
reachable by the hamster. Wash and refill the water bottle daily. Hamsters eat a variety
of food. However, it is recommended that you feed your hamster seeds prepared with the
vitamins and minerals they need to stay healthy.

Do not bathe your hamster. Hamsters clean themselves. If you think your hamster smells
bad, the odour is probably coming from dirty bedding. This means that you need to
clean the cage more often.

Hamsters need plenty of exercise. Put an exercise wheel in your hamster’s cage. Close
the doors to your bedroom, take your hamster out of its cage and let it run around.
Hamsters are curious animals and like to explore their surroundings.

Finally, do not put two hamsters in a cage together, They will either breed immediately
or fight which often leads to death.

Question 6

Read the text below.

Priyanka and her family spent the school holidays at a Malay village in Kedah. They joined a
homestay programme together with a few other families. When they arrived, they were given
a warm welcome. A few men played the kompang, a traditional Malay drum while several
young boys put on a silat performance. Silat is a traditional Malay martial art.

Then, the guests met their respective host families. They were invited to have lunch by the
river. They tried some Kedahan dishes such as kerabu, gulai masak pedas and laksa Kedah.
After such a hearty lunch, they went to their foster family’s home to rest.

The following day, Priyanka woke up early. She went outside and saw some of the
villagers in their boats by the river. She hoped she would be able to try that. After breakfast,
the family were taught how to weave mats and baskets out of mengkuang leaves.

At 11.30 a.m., Priyanka and the other families went to a paddy field. There, she saw a boy
catching fish. He invited them to join him. With so many people in the paddy field, it soon
became a muddy mess. Priyanka learnt how to use a fish trap and caught two fish.

After a long bath, Priyanka and her family had dinner. The fish that was caught earlier was
grilled and served. As the families ate, they were entertained by a wayangkulit shadow
theatre performance. Although Priyanka was very tired, she fixed her gaze on the
performance.
