Directions Part 1: Using your notes and the pictures you may have taken during the

tour, answer the questions below to the best of your ability. Be specific.

1. List 4 new facts you found interesting about the history of murals, murals in
the Mission and/or public art and public art law in San Francisco from Patricia
Rose’s presentation and mural tour.
I found the Golden Age of Muralism in 1921, very important to note because it sparked
up muralism art all over thee world. The mural done by Jose orozco called “El hombre
en llames” was the most powerfull to me. The mural “Homenaje a David Sicarrios” was
interesting because they were appriciating a muralist and one of the 3 greatest. David
Sicarrios, as well as Diego Rivera and Jose Orozco.
2. Based upon the presentation and tour, what do you think is the value of
murals and public art, especially in communities like the Mission?
The murals are painting the stories of the community. That in itself is valuable because
it creates a family and a feelings of acceptance and support. The murals that portray El
Salvador and gentrification will make any community, especially Mission feel a little less
alone and feel empowered.
3. What was one mural or mural message that stood out to you and why?
Describe either the mural itself or explain the theme or message that you
found important in any of the murals you viewed.
The murals that stood out ot me the most where the mural by “Mujeres Muralistas”. The
meaning of painting positveity, not only negatively, really made me think about how
women are constanly mainting the world bright. These women wanted to acknowldege
the struggles they have faced but decide to appriciate what they do have now. I found
their whole meaning very positve in a land filled with war and violence.
4. In the spring, we will be reading Cathy Arellano’s book, Salvation on the
Mission. It is a book about her growing up in the Mission and her memories
about her family and friends growing up in the Mission. Based upon the
observations you made, as well as what you learned from Patricia’s tour
through Balmy Alley and 24th Street, what do you think might be the
PURPOSE or IMPORTANCE of Arellano’s book, especially in today’s
changing climate in San Francisco? Explain.

Briggs Type Indicator) and SII (Strong Interest Inventory), reflect on how each one fits
with your own interests and personality.

persuasion, leadership, helpfullness, and building personality will help me decide on my
career and lifestyle I lead. I learned I about my prefernces, and how these test
measures my preferences not my sole abilities. I have realized the I have a natrual
calling for teaching and helping my community. I find myself loving English, Law, and
Government policys, that I should follow my interests.
2. What are some strengths and challenges with your MBTI type?
Some of my strenghts inculde: leadership, teamwork, communication, sales, and
compasionate yet competetive. While some of the challenges I face may be:
mathematics, alone time, researching, and reglious outlook.
3. How might you use this information in exploring majors, universities, careers,
and future learning experiences?
I plan on using this information by strenghten both my strong MBTI type and my
challenged MBTI type. I will work on all the areas but will work twice as hard trying to
compensate for my areas of least interest. I will take into consideration when choosing
classes, majors and career oppourtunity what works best for me and what will challenge
me. These results will help me predict how certaijn situations will play out based on my
strong an dchallenged results.
4. Please note the names of the USF graduate students you with whom you met
and explain what you found the most meaningful during your USF/Puente

I worked with Espie and Phillip on the career session. They were very thorough with all
my information which I found was most meanginfull. They answered any questions I had
with no hesitation so they made the whole session every informational. I can defintely
say I learned a lot about myself and my learning habits, personal intrest and career
path. The patinece, importance and well developed session was the most meaningfull.
