Philosophy of Education

I believe that every student deserves a learning environment that cultivates
their knowledge. In my classroom, this happens primarily through student-centered
instruction and cooperative learning strategies. I aim to give my students ample
opportunities to interact with the content and their peers in order to more deeply
understand the material. It is my belief that students learn better when they are
given chances to talk about the material with their peers, which is why student-talk is
a cornerstone of my classroom procedures.

I have found that the classroom environment also greatly affects how well a
student learns. When students feel noticed, cared for, and respected, they achieve
more. In my classroom, I strive to connect with each of my students and create a
positive relationship with them. Students need positive adult figures in their lives to
give them stability and encourage them. I try to be that for my students. I also strive
to help the students connect with each other through collaborative activities. The
more connected students feel to their peers and their teachers, the more engaged
they become.

As an educator, reflection is an essential part of my role. I constantly evaluate
student performance, student engagement, and student feedback to alter lessons
for the following days in order to meet their needs. I seek feedback from various
sources in order to improve myself and better teach my students. As an educator, I
believe it is necessary to reflect and improve my skills for the sake of my students.
