Air Personality at WCBS/
FM Radio in NY from 1969
to 2005. Bill passed away
after a long illness. Born in
Lawrenceville, Georgia, Bill
landed his first radio job at
the age of 15 at WCLB in
Camilla, GA. He then head-
ed to Califor-
nia and was
on the air at
KICO, KAMP
and KXO. He
joined the
Navy and served in Tokyo
from 1960 - 1964. He was
a photographer upon en-
listment and worked on
Project Mercury, photo-
graphing aspects of the
capsule chute develop-
ment program. He was
also the Program Direc-
tor and disc jockey on the
Far East (Radio) Network/

Mrs. Joyce Engle was born
to the States in 1964, he
was hired by KGB Radio in
San Diego, the #1 station
in that market, a Drake-
Chenault “Boss Radio”
Top 40 format. In 1967 Bill
left San Diego for a job at
another Drake-Chenault
radio station in Cincin-
nati, and, as he was driving
across the country, he re-
ceived a call from his boss
to continue driving on to
New York, where he joined
WOR/FM. Two years later
he was hired by WCBS/
FM, where he was on the
air for 36 years, retiring in
2005. He was best known
for his “Brown Bag” spe-
cial which aired during the
lunch hour every day. Bill
was a 32-year resident of
Lake Hopatcong, NJ, where
he enjoyed boating and
golf and loved every sun-
set he saw from his front
window. He is survived by
his loving wife of 35 years,
Debbie (Meehan) Brown
of Lake Hopatcong; his
son, Bill Brown; daughter-
in-law Rosario (Castellon)
Brown, and two beauti-
ful granddaughters, Emilia
and Camila, all residing
in California. Bill took
great pride in his son’s ac-
complishments as a film
and television composer
(CSI:NY among his many
credits). Bill will be missed
by family members on the
East and West Coasts and
by a very special commu-
nity of friends in Lake Ho-
patcong. Contributions in
his memory may be made
to St. Peter’s Orphanage,
a residential treatment
facility for deprived and
abandoned adolescent
boys, 170 Diamond Spring

Florida passed away on
October 3, 2011. She was
preceded in death by her
first husband, Walter Eu-
gene Stevens, her parents

Clyde Redding Hobby, Jr.
and his wife Myrtis Hobby,
sister-in-law Jane Hobby,
and brother-in-law W.
Buice Wallace. She is sur-
vived by her husband, Rob-
ert W. Engle. Also surviving
are her three sons and
their families, Richard Da-
vid Stevens, his wife Sheila
and their children Austin
and Camie of Suwanee,
GA; William Frank Stevens,
his wife Jamie and their
children Cody, and Bridgett
and Dan Paris, of Grayson,
GA; Stanley Royce Stevens
and his daughter Samantha,
of Atlanta, GA. Surviving

High School in 1945, and
Mercer University, Macon,
Georgia in 1949. While at
Mercer, she was a member
of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority.
Joyce married Walter Ste-
vens on June 29, 1949 and
lived in Newnan, Georgia
where she taught school.
After returning to Ash-
burn for a short while, her
family moved to Tallahas-
see, Florida, and there she
became a realtor. Tallahas-
see is where her children
spent their childhood. In
1972, Joyce and her fam-
ily moved to Buford, GA
to become associated
with N.W. Buice & Com-
pany, where she was the
manager for 14 years. As a
testimony of her Christian
faith, Joyce was an active
member of the First Bap-
tist Church in every com-
munity she lived. Joyce was
an avid golfer and among
her other hobbies were
gardening, needlework,
reading and bridge. After
the death of her husband,
Walter Stevens, she moved
to Naples Florida in 1986.
In June of 2002, Joyce mar-
ried Robert Engle of Na-
ples. They were members
of Wyndemere Country
Club of Naples, Florida.
There will be a graveside
service in Ashburn Geor-
gia at Rose Hill Cemetery
on October 17, 2011 at
1:00 pm. There will also be
a memorial service at The
First Baptist Church on
Orange Blossom Avenue
in Naples Florida on Oc-
tober 28, 2011 at 1:00 pm.
