DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTIONAL FEATURES The isolator/earthing switch shall be complete with all parts that are necessary or essential for efficient operation, Such parts shall be deemed to be within the scope of supply, whether specifically mentioned of not ‘The isolators shall be three phase, gang operated, horizontal, center break or double break type with moving blades. Isolators shall be provided with gang operated vertical break earth blades if specified in Data Sheet The isolators and earthing switches shall be provided with high current carrying contaets on the hinge and jaw ends and all contact surfaces shall be of silver plated copper. All identical parts shall be interchangeable Isolators and earth switches shall be capable of withstanding the dynamic and thermal effects of the ‘maximum possible short circuit current of the system in their closed position, These shall be constructed such that they do not open under influence of short circuit current ‘The isolators shall be capable of making/breaking normal currents when no significant change in voltage occurs across the terminals of each pole of isolator on account of make/break operation. ‘The isolator shall be capable of making/breaking magnetizing current of 0.7A at 0.15 power factor and capacitive current of 0.7A at 0.15 power factor at rated voltage. Similarly, the springs must assist during the opening operation to provide quick breaking feature Motor Drive For motor driven isolators, the motor shall be totally enclosed, weatherproof, outdoor type and tropivalised suitable for direct on line starting through magnetic contactor type starter. Motor shall be suitable for operation on 415V, 50 Hz, 3 phase supply, unless otherwise specified Suitable reduction gearing shall be provided between motor and the drive shaft of isolator. A quick electro-mechanical brake shall be fitted on the higher speed shaft to stop mechanism rapidly when motor supply is switched off Limit switches for contro! shall be fitted on the isolator and earth switch shaft, within the cabinet to sense the open and close positions of the isolator and earth switch. Interlocks. Isolators and earthling switches shall be provided with padiocking facility to lock them in fully open! or fully closed positions Isolator and earthing switch shall be mechanically interlocked such that it shall not be possible to close the earthing switch when the isolator is closed and vice-versa. Isolators shall be provided with electrical interlocking feature. This shall be in the form of bolt interlock comprising of interlock coil of latch in type to lock the isolator driving shaft operation in the lateh-in condition. It shall be possible to release the latch by energizing the interlock coil when certain preset conditions of interlocking scheme are fulfilled. For this purpose the Vendor shall provide facilities for wiring Purchaser's external interlocking contacts both in isolator opening and closing circuits. Electrical interlocking shall be suitable for control supply voltage as specified in Data Sheet. Electrical interlocking arrangement shall be fail safe. INSPECTION, TESTING AND ACCEPTANCE During manufacturing, the isolator shall be subject to inspection by EIL/Owner or by an agency authorized by the Owner, to assess the progress of work as well as to ascertain that only quality raw material is used. The manufacturer shall furnish all necessary information concerning the supply to ElL/Owner inspectors, Tests shall be carried out at the manufacturer's works under his care and expense and EIL/owner shall be informed at least 2 weeks in advance regarding this. Type test certificates for the isolators from a recognized testing organization for simitar type and rating, shall be furnished In addition, specific tests shall be conducted to check mechanical and electrical operation and cubicle wiring conforming to specification and final schematic drawings. These tests shall be provisionally conducted at the manufacturer's works by providing a temporary connection to control cubicle in order to simulate the actual conditions. All acceptance and routine tests as stipulated in the relevant standards shall be carried out by vendor in presence of EIL/Owner's representative. Mechanical operation test (routine test) shall be conducted on the complete isolator (Main switch and Earth switch) at Vendor's work and a certified tests report be furnished to the owner, ‘The test report of power frequency voltage withstand test conducted on the insulator shall be furnished for owner's acceptance in lieu of conducting the power frequency (dry) test on complete isolator (routine test) PACKING AND DESPATCH All the equipment shall be divided into several sections for protection and ease of handling during transportation. The equipment shall be properly packed for transportation by ship/rail or trailer. The equipment shall be wrapped in polythene sheets before being placed in crates/cases to prevent damage to finish. Crates/cases shall have skid bottom for handling. Special notations such as * Fragile’, “This side up’, “Center of gravity", “Weight’,'Owner's particulars’, "PO nos.’ etc., shall be clearly marked on the package together with other details as per purchase order. ‘The equipment may be stored outdoors for long periods before installation.
