To Kill a Mockingbird
In this book, To Kill a Mockingbird lives the Finches. The Finches live in a small town
with many other people who are mostly Whites, and the Whites thinking their superior than
African Americans. They disapprove them except for Atticus, Jem, and Scout. The character,
Scout Finch (Jean Louise) is a small girl who acts like a tomboy and tries to understand the
world around her from segregation even if it comes to dangerous situations. What I believe what
bravely means is someone who is strong and confronts to people who don’t show a worried
expression. The bravest character in To Kill a Mockingbird has to be Scout Finch.

Scout proves herself as the bravest character by being different than most ladies. In the
text Atticus says: she asked me to tell you must try to behave like the little lady and gentleman
that you are (p.133). This evidence shows that Atticus is telling Scout to act like a lady and a boy
like how Scout acts all the time. In the story, Scout is the bravest character because she tries to
be herself than listening to Aunt Alexandra or anyone who tells her to act like a “lady”, or act
who she is.

Another reason that Scout is the bravest character in the story because she understood
Boo later on and wasn’t afraid of him either than the others were. In the text, it states,”One time
he said you never really know a man until you stand in his shoes and walk around them. Just
standing in the Radley porch was enough.” (p.279). This evidence shows that Scout now
understands Boo even if she was on the Radley porch. In the story, this shows that Scout is the
bravest character because she wasn’t afraid of Boo (Arthur) later on and she kind of understood
him a little more than before.

Some people may say that Scout is the bravest character, but then there are some other
people who believe the opposite. In the text it states,” Jem said placidly,’We are going to give a
note to Boo Radley’. ‘Just how?’ I was trying to fight down the automatic terror rising in me.”
(p.46) This evidence shows that Scout is scared and doesn’t want them to give the letter to Boo.
In the story, Scout is scared because she doesn’t approve from Jem’s idea to go to Boo’s home.
Nonetheless, Scout is the bravest character in To Kill a Mockingbird because she is someone
who is strong and confronts to people who don’t show a worried expression and show how she is
from the inside.
