Abstract Fruits of American origin (Zea mays L.,Cucurbita pepo L., C.maxima Duchesne,C.
moschata Duchesne,Phaseolus vulgaris L.), imported by Columbus and painted by Giovanni da
Udine in Rome at the Psyche’s Lodge, in the Famesina villa, between 1515 and 1517, are herewith
briefly described. The importance of this testimony for dating the introduction of American plants in
Europe and Italy is underlined
