REGULAR PLURAL ENDING

The regular plural ending has three possible pronunciation


+/iz/
We add /iz/ to singular nouns which end in the following sounds.
/tʃ/ churches /dʒ/ judges /s/ passes /z/
mazes
/ʃ/ wishes /ʒ/ rouges
+ /s/
We add /s/ to singular nouns which end in the following sounds.
/p/ lips /t/ parts /k/ locks
The sounds /p/, /t/, /k/, /θ/ and /f/ are all voiceless.
+ /z/
We add /z/ to words which end in all other sounds.
/n/ tons /g/ frogs /v/ waves

PAST SIMPLE: REGULAR VERBS


+/id/: We add /id/ to the infinitive when the infinitive ends in /t/ or /d/
Ex: waited protected hoarded
+/t/: We add /t/ to the infinitive when the infinitive ends in one of the
following sounds (They are voiceless): /p/, /k/, /f/, /s/, /θ/, /tʃ/, /ʃ/
Ex: laughed booked gossiped
+/d/: we add /d/ to the infinitive when the infinitive ends in any other sounds
(They are ‘voiced’)
Ex: moved approved
