Task 3. Analyzing Classroom Discourse.

In one of the math classes with my teacher I observed the classroom to analyze the
classroom discourse between her and class students. during the core part of the class
i observed what is said for 10 minutes. In this core part of lesson teacher was
presenting a power point to explain the key terms that relate to each operation, and
she distribute an activity game between groups that include some operations with
some key words. It needs from students to match each key term with the operation
that means it. The proportion of times does the teacher talk in this task was 50% and
as I time the class for 10 mins teacher was talking for about 7 minutes. I heard some
exact words teacher uses when asking question about the topic. Teacher was asking
what is the operation that relate to the word (the difference between) what does it
mean by saying two times? Which operation we must use when we hear two times?
and what operation relate to additional key term? Evidence I see that children have
learned some mathematics is when they almost completed the key terms and
operations activity while working in groups activity, also by their reaction when the
teacher was asking when presenting the power point. students were engaged in that
by raising their hands to answer. Almost all students in class had the opportunity to
talk with the teacher and their group members while working. In the power point
presenting key terms slide students were talking only when the calls on them to
answer the question. In other side students were talking to their partners when
discussing the key terms to complete the activity of the operations. when finishing
and answering the activity linked key term with its operation by the teacher one
students was raising their hand to ask if the two times is linked to multiple or add.
Teacher answering her question by explaining to all students in class that two times
key term in math linked to the multiple only. In my opinion the classroom discourse
between my teacher and her students of grade 3 about important and new
mathematics is supporter to explain and engage between both, and to share
questions between each other in class.
