To whom it may concern,

This correspondence is in regards to Yessenia Rodriguez a University of Arizona BSN student

graduating in the spring class 2018. I am honored to write this letter of recommendation for
Yessenia, a stellar new graduate registered nurse applicant. I had the pleasure to work with
Yessenia during this spring 2018 semester as she is a clinical student in NURS 479 “Transition
to the Professional Nursing Role” as well as mentor academically in NURS 478 “Nursing
Leadership and Management in Health Systems”.

Yessenia demonstrated professionalism and accountability as she arrived early every shift
utilizing the electronic medical record Cerner with preceptor to prepare for report. Yessenia
completed 180 practicum hours in the pediatric medical surgical unit on Diamond 5 at Banner
University Medical Center in Tucson Arizona. Ms. Rodriguez was prepared and eager to learn
and not afraid to take on any challenge presented to her. Yessenia’s passion for providing care to
infants and children comes from her prior service experience as a nurse extern working with
campers. Yessenia takes great pride in her ability to promote family-centered care. Ms.
Rodriguez recognized that a mother of a two-year old refugee was helpless in her child’s care.
Yessenia immediately involved an interpreter to allow the mom to voice her concerns. Yessenia
empowered this mom to know that she was not helpless in providing care to her son. Yessenia
will never forget the gratitude that she received from this mom.

In addition, Ms. Rodriguez made herself available for multiple learning opportunities while
providing developmental appropriate care for infants and children ages 4 months to 17 years of
age. Yessenia demonstrated competency with assessments and time management skills as she
provided care for 3-4 children per shift. Once aware of expectations, Yessenia required
minimal supervision from preceptor. Yessenia was not afraid to provide education to parents and
children. Ms. Rodriguez eagerly assisted with admissions to the unit as well as discharge
teaching.

Safety was a high priority as medications were administered following all rights to medication
administration. Infection control was also a priority as Yessenia followed policies and
procedures as well as followed isolation protocols.

Yessenia is continuing to develop critical thinking skills as she has had a variety of experiences
in which she implemented the plan of care utilizing best practice for infants and children with:
Respiratory Distress Syndrome, Diabetes, Post- Operative Appendicitis, Hypoxia, Pneumonia,
Flu, and RSV, just to name a few. Yessenia was responsible for decision making as she
interpreted lab data for blood gas results, clotting factors, liver enzymes, cardiac enzymes,
electrolytes, and blood sugars. Abnormal results were reported to the appropriate discipline
utilizing SBAR.

Yessenia not only excelled with assessments and skills she was not afraid to demonstrate
leadership qualities. Yessenia developed an immediate rapport with patients, families, and staff.
Therapeutic communication skills were demonstrated proficiently in English as well as Spanish.
Yessenia gave report to the next shift each time building her self-confidence.

Yessenia’s caring attitude and passion for pediatric nursing was demonstrated throughout the
clinical experience. The University of Arizona College of Nursing has prepared Yessenia with a
strong work ethic to succeed and learn at the next level. I highly recommend Yessenia Rodriguez
for a registered nurse position. Yessenia truly demonstrates professionalism which makes her a
perfect candidate for your organization. Please feel free to contact me for additional information
if needed.

Sincerely,

Beverly Bias, MS, RNC
