Australian Curriculum:
HASS, Geography
The importance of environments, including natural
vegetation, to animals and people (ACHASSK088)
Scan me for hook video
Purpose
This resource is designed to be used in a lesson after watching the video, Look out
Canberra! However, it can be used by itself as a way for students to investigate about
different vegetations in Australia and the role of the environment to animals and
people.
1. Print codes, making sure it is one side only if you are wanting to fold and
laminate to keep or have the students cut out the pictures and paste onto
map.
2. Scan the code using a QR scanner app. You will need a device with a camera.
3. Watch and/or read the linked resource and students will use it to answer
questions about the types of vegetation, connections to people and animals
and sustainable practices.
Lesson idea (This is just one idea. Feel free to adapt the resource to suit your class)
Group students each with a large blank map of Australia and several QR codes for
one type of vegetation. Students scan the codes, learn about the vegetation and
answer the questions. Once completed, they move onto the next vegetation.
Students compare work with a ‘gallery walk’ and add any new information that is
needed.
