PROJECT PART 7 –REFLECTIVE WRITING PAOLA VARGAS CORBACHO

MATH 1040

I still remember looking at the instructions for this project and think: what is this that I am

reading?

Am I going to be able to do this? I had a hard time working on it because it seemed to be so

difficult at the beginning and a few things towards the end still. I was amazed at how much work

this was going to require. We needed to create a random sample of data, then organize the data,

create graphs, charts and interpret what the information means. Throughout the semester we

were taught a variety of statistical concepts that gave us the necessary tools to be able to

complete the project. Little by little I realized that I was not only capable of gradually understand

the instructions, but I was also able to perform the correct sequence of steps for each one of the

exercises that were part of this project. As in any other discipline and classes, after learning the

theory, practice makes a whole difference.

This project allowed us to put into practice key principles studied throughout the term, from

using a sampling method to performing hypothesis testing. The most challenging aspects of the

project were really understanding each concept, and how it applied to the population of skittles

not just our sample.

Other things that I learned from this project are how to use the Statcrunch program and how

to graph, which may come in handy in the future when I prepare graphs for presentations and

papers.
Also, relying on case studies and statistics, I have learned that is not always correct, that they

may have used voluntary responses to collect their data or may have distorted the data somehow

by misrepresenting or inaccurately showing all of the information.
