PART IV DECLARATION OF POWER, EFFICIENCY, FUEL CONSUMPTION ‘AND LUBRICATING OlL CONSUMPTION 4. Scope —Lays down the guidelines for declaring power, efficiency, fuel consumption, lubricating oll consumption and specifies int correction factors which ai rod for adjusting the observed readings to the stan ‘specified in 1S : 10000 ( Part I!) ~ 1980 “Methods of tests for internal combustion ‘ Standard reference conditions’, for varlable speed and constant speed engines. SECTION | CONSTANT SPEED ENGINES 2. Declaration of Rated Power Output and Speed 2.1 Statements of power are required for two main purpos 8) The declaration by a manufacturer of value of the power which the engine will dellver under standard reference conditions. This declared value Is known as, ted Power’, and b) The verification by measurement that the engine delivers the power which hi declared In 2.4(a), under the same set of conditions or after proper has been made for any difference in ambient site conditions from the standard conditions. 2.2 IS Rating — |S Rating of the engine shall be of two types: 2.2.4 1S Rating A (with overload )— The net output in brake power which the engine Is capable of delivering continuously, at the rated crankshaft speed (In rev/min) under the operating condl- tlons of the manufacturer's test bed and fandard reference conditions specified in Section | of IS: 10000 ( Part 11)-1980. The pable of delivering an output of 10 jercent in excess of Its rated output at It period of 1 hour in any period of 12 jours continuous running, without undue heating of the engine or any other mechanical trouble. 2.2.2 1S Rating B (without overload) —The net output In brake power which the engine Is capable of delivering continuously, at rated crankshaft speed (in rev/min) under the operating conditions of the manufacturer's test bed and adjusted to the standard reference conditions speci- fled in Section 1 of IS : 10000 ( Part I! )-1980. The engine shall be able to give its rated output for 42 h continuous running without undue heating or any other mechanical trouble. ‘Note —For the aame engine 1S Rating B will be higher than IS Rating A. 2.3 Power Adjustment Factor ‘a'— Is the ratio of power output under the amblent site conditions to the power output under standard reference conditions. These standards are replacad by two sets of standard, one set covore the methods of testing of engines and the other covers the specification and performance requirements of both constant speed and variable speed engines. ‘The standard covering methods of tests Is being published In following 12 parts (each part covering a particular test method or information related to methods of tests ) : 1S : 10000 Methods of tests for internal combustion engines Part | Glossary of terms relating to test methods Part it Standard reference conditions Part Ill Measurements for testing, units and limits of accuracy Part 1V Declarations of power, efficiency, fuel consumption and lubricating oll consumption Part V Preparation for tests and measurements for wear Part VI Recording of test result: Part Vil Gov for constant speed engines and selection of-engines for use with electrical generators Part Vill Performance Part IX Endurance tests Part X Tests for smoke levels, limits and corrections for smoke levels for varial Part XI Information required with inquiry or order and Information supplied by the manu- facturer with tt Part XII Test certificates This standard will be complementary to specifications for performance requirements of diffe- rent types of engines covered by following standard IS: 10001 Specifichtion for performance requirements for constant speed compression Ignition ( diesdl ) engines for general purposes ( up to 20 kW ) 1S: 10002 Specification for performance requirements for constant speed compression Ignition ( diese! ) engines for general purposes ( above 20 kW) 1S: 10003 Specification for performance requirements for varlable speed compression Ignition ( diesel ) engi for automotive purpos 1S : 10004 Specification for performance requirements for variable speed spark Ignition engines for automotive purposes, Sperk lgnition engines for sprayers and similar applications have been covered by I “Specification for performance requirements of small size spark ignition engines for spre: 1974 ‘Two-stroke spark Ignition engines for automotive applications which were earlier covered by 1S : 1603 will be covered by a separate specification. The revised methods of tests covered by 1S : 10000 have been aligned with the current inter national practices in the fleld of Internal combustion engines.
