Scope — Specifies the mode of recording of test results of type tests and performance tests conducted according to 1S : 10000 (Part Vill)-1980 ‘Methods of tests for internal combustion engines, Part Mii Performance tests’ and 1S : 10000 (Part IX)-1980 “Methods of tests for intemal combustion erommance tot ard (8: 10000, (Par 14) 1960 "Maho of texts oy inte, comtunon wakes engines. 2. Recording of Observations and Results—The engine shall have reached steady working conditions: taking any reading. 2.1. The readings taken from the various instruments while the test is in progress shall be racorded in @ iGg sheet. The form of the log sheets recommended for the purpose are given in Appendices A. B and C. During the rating test, observations shall be made every one hour. For endurance test, readings shall be taken every one hour as also when there is change in loa 2.1.1 During the fuel consumption test (loop test), the observations shall be made every 30 minutes. 2.2 The results derived from observations shall be plotted as performance curves (see Appendices D Gnd E). form part of the information to be supplied by the manufacturer (see IS : 10000 {Part X1)-1980 “Methods of teste for internal combustion engines, Part XI information required with Inquiry or order and information supplied by the manufecturer with the engine’). These curves shall be representative of engine type snd design and shall be plotted after the endurance tests conducted ‘ecording to 1S : 10000 (Part IX)-1980 when supplied with the engine. However, the curves shall also bbe plotted for the engines on which performance test is conducted after they have been type approved. EXPLANATORY NOTE ‘The testing end performance of constant speed and variable speed internal combustion engines was eatler covered by the following Indian Standards: - 1S : 1600-1960 ‘Code for type testing of constant speed internal combustion engi purposes’; IS : 1601-1960 ‘Performance of constant speed internal combustion engines for general purposes’; 1S : 1602-1960 ‘Code for type testing of variable speed internal combustion engines for automo- tive purposes’, end 1S : 1603-1960 ‘Performance of purposes. “These standards wore originally lesued in the year 1960 and a8 a result of implementation of these standards by the menutacturere of engines and testing laboratories, os also the operation of ISI Ceruficay SEn"Miarking Scheme, those standards have now been extensively revieed. While 1S: 1600 and IS: 1602 covered the codes for type testing of constant and vatiable speed nthe performance requirements of such engines wore covered. by IS: 1601" and [ong eeectvely. Those standards are replaced by two sets of standards, ono sat cavers the mathous Of teating of engines and the other covers the specification and performance requirements of both constant Speed and variable speed engines. ‘The standard covering methods of tests is being published in following 12 parts (each part covering a particular test method or informetion related to mothods of toss): IS : 10000 Part | ‘Glossary of terms relating to test methods’; 1S : 10000 Part II ‘Standard reference Conditions’ 1S : 10000 Part III ‘Measurements for testing, units and limits of accuracy’ a 8 for general ble speed intemal combustion engines for automotive |. \etemel Combustion Engines Sectional Committ, EDC 14; Mathods of Test and Codes of Practice for Engines Subcommites, EDC 14: 3 [Ref: Doc: EDC 14(3127)) BUREAU OF INDIAN STANDARDS MANAK BHAVAN, © BAHADUR.
