First of all we would like to thank God as finally we were able to finish our assignment that
had been given by the tourism entrepreneurship seminar lecturer to us. This task was done with
all the effort given by the group member‟s event though a little bit problem happened among us
while doing this assignment. Luckily, all the problems can be control and we were able to adapt
properly and wisely.

Besides that, a big thank you we would like to address to our lecturer, Miss Saiyida Nafisa
binti Rosdi because without her guide our project could not be done properly like this. She
always gives us support and knowledge to let us know on how to do our assignment in order to
produce a good outcome from our research that has been studied.

REPORT COMMITTEE
1.0 INTRODUCTION

Seminar may be defined as a gathering of people for the purpose of discussing a stated
topic. A form of academic instruction either at an academic institution or offered by a
commercial or professional organization. . This is often accomplished through an ongoing
Socratic dialogue with a seminar leader or instructor or through a more formal presentation of
research. It is essentially a place where assigned readings are discussed, questions can be raised
and debates can be conducted.

While, careers fairs is a useful resource for candidates to use to find out about potential
employers. Typically organized in a large hall where potential employers will set up booths with
members from their human resources team along with new employees to tell those attending
about their company. Their application process and anything else they might want to know.

The purpose of this Career Fair is to open the opportunity for final year students of
Universiti Malaysia Kelantan to meet with employers in an informal setting and learn more about
job and internship opportunities offered by companies, government agencies, and non-profit
organizations where you might like to work or internship.

These seminar objectives are to give a motivational in which case the purpose is usually
to inspire the attendees to become better people or to work towards implementing the skills they
might have learned from the seminar.

Those attending this career fair will be free to ask any questions they wish to prospective
employers and take notes on their answer as well as being able to take any promotional material
or freebies that are offered by the firm. In addition, there will usually be talks held by either
companies attending or the organizer of the fair itself.

Moreover, this Career Fair seminar is simply a way for students or other like-minded
people to network and meet other attendees with similar interests. Such seminars provide
opportunities for the attendees to make some potentially valuable contacts that can help them
move to the next level in their careers.
Instead of that there is a things to do before, during and after the event or the program
was started. Before the program started all the information need to be collect and the form of the
committee is must because without committee the program will be not run as it is planned.
Before the program also the arrangement, information, procedure and so on needs to be
considered. During the program the focus is on the protocol, flow master, system and also the
speaker that wants to give a talk must be prepared and ready at any time as planned. Besides,
after the program end, there are a few considerations that to be taken especially the program that
need to be handle more than one day. It is because the improvement is needed to make sure the
program is on the track.
2.0 AIMS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE EVENTS

The Career Fair are an effective and reliable way to promote jobs, work placement and
internships, used by the best employers on the market. It is also provide a platform to interact
with the participants and find the latent employee for their organization. Different
organizations will exhibit the career opportunities in their business, discuss the opportunities
of the different industries and how to get educated if interested. Speakers will be present on
the day discussing specific careers. A local career guide will be given to the learners to take
home. There are some of the objective of this event:

 To introduce students to careers that related to their coursework and to help them identify
the key skills needed in order to become a successful professional.
 To provide students with opportunities to develop skills in communication, self‐
presentation, and networking, which will prepare them for job interviews and other
professional interactions.
 To make personal contacts that can lead to a job and gather the information from
potential employers.
3.0 ORGANIZATION
4.0 SPEAKER ARRANGEMENT

This Career Fair program is not focusing on the talk, but we provided chance for student
to know more about work opportunity. We are inviting around 20 companies to promote their
company. This is because all this companies are in the same sector, and need to compete each
other to attract the students.

Each company have been provided around 15-20 minutes to give a talk about their
company. But, if they want more time, it will be considered. The benefit of this talk, the student
can know what type of work that the company provide and what type of employee that this
company needed. Before this, the student only was being told about the company, not the scope
or the concept of inside the company.

Other than that, this program can help the student to know the advantage and
disadvantage working on this tourism and hospitality sector. This is because, what the
company‟s provided to the workers will be different from other companies. As example,
accommodation, salary and others. So, the student can prepare mentally and physically in order
to face the future.

For the flow of the program, before the event, the leader has divided the task for the
committee to find the suitable companies. This people are divided into 3 biros, which is Tourism,
Hospitality, and Wellness. This students need to find at least 5 companies each biros to join our
program. On the event day, this company are provided with 1 big table to put and decorate their
promotion things. In the morning, they just sit at their table and entertain their customer. At 2
pm, the event continues with the talk from each company until the end of the day. For the second
day, just the simple flow for the program, which in the morning session, the company had being
give chance to give another talk if they want to, and around 2 pm, the closing ceremony has
taken place.
5.0 PROGRAM DESIGN

From our overview in Career Fair event, we think this event is an opportunity to student
to get their Internship and Student in Enterprise Program (SIEP). This is because this program
are focusing on the interview session from many company but we are more focusing on the
company that relate with the course of Faculty of Hospitality, Tourism and Wellness. Based on
name of this event of Career Fair, this event takes as much as 20 companies to help the students
of University Malaysia Kelantan in their Internship and SIEP project. The interview session is
our main program design in these two days of the event.

Next, this event also fulfill by many activities and games. The activities that fill up as
long as this event progresses is Debate show, 3R program, Mistery Box Games, and talk by the
company. All of this activities is to attract all of the student in UMK to visiting Dewan
Keusahawanan Terbuka (DTK) to join all interview session from the company that we invites.
The first activity in this event is Debate show. This activity is to gain the student‟s knowledge
about the current issues that will be a trend nowadays. As like as the title of this debate which is
“Dewan ini Percaya Tuntutan Gaji Tinggi Punca Graduan gagal mendapat kerja”, this activity
opening the eyes of audience about the factor of graduate‟s student fail to get their job nowadays.
This title was parallel with our event‟s name, Career Fair. The games that fulfill in this event like
Mistery box give the audience relax and calm down after they get their interview session from
the company.

All day in this event also was fill up by 3R program which is the product sales of
Tourism‟s student by using the Reduce, Reuse and Recycle (3R) methods. Besides interview
session, the student also can shopping in purchasing the interesting product from 3R program.
The variation of 3R product increase the purchasing power of the student to buy a product.
Lastly, the talk from company also fill up this event while they talk about the experience from
interview session.

7.3 ISSUES AND CHALLENGES

Certain issues and challenges that the Program Committee face in Career Fair event;

ISSUES

LACK OF PEOPLE

The event of career day that happen on 15th until 16 November 2017 at hall of University
Malaysia Kelantan and Program Committee handle the activities along the event. The issues that
the Program Committee faced was lack of people because the event was held on weekdays. Most
of the students had classes on that time. Most of the people who came was from the students
who manages the events. Because of that, many activities and game that the Program Committee
handle did not runs smoothly. So what need to do is back up plan to match with the event to
attract people come to the events.

MANY OF THE BOOTH IS NOT OPEN

Second issue is many of booths did not open during the career day, the Program Committee need
to find the solution to attract more people to come to the event. The Program Committee needs to
find the back-up plan or activities to fill the slot and make the event more interesting with variety
of activities in the hall. The activities that need the Program Committee to do is karaoke session
to give the chance to the students to show their talented in singing.

HAVE TWO EVENTS IN ONE PLACE

Last but not least, there are two events in one place. At hall University Malaysia Kelantan it has
career day event and 3R event. The people who came only focus on 3R event and it make the
activities of the career day did not interesting. The Program Committee find this as the issue
because it gives the Program Committee problems to handle the games and activities as planned.
When it has two events in one place, it gives huge problems to the Program Committee to find
the crowd that willing to play the games that prepared by the Program Committee.
CHALLENGE

COMPANY WITHDRAW

Throughout this event was held, there are challenges that faced by Program Committee which is
the challenge is some of the company withdraw from this Career Fair event last minute on two
days for no reason. Only a few of companies opened their booth, so the Program Committee
need to find another way to make the event success and looks interesting by doing some
activities to attract people come to the event. The Program Committee also gives chance to each
company to promote and introduce about their company includes giving talks or advices about
work situation to students before going to industrial training and during work.

CROWD

The publicity committee has distributed the poster and also post it in media social but it is still
lack of people who came. This is because most of the students have classes during the events
held. The program committee also did some activities to attract them like invite the debate club,
nasyid club which is in-clique and also make some games to make the event interesting and get
more attraction from students, umk staffs and outside people.

LACK OF FACILITIES

The last challenges is lack of facilities. The program committee prepared the games activities
which are whispering challenge and mystery box, for the whispering challenge it lacks of
headphone which is items that want to use for the game and for the mystery box is shortage of
microphone. This is reasons why the game did not going smoothly and it takes time to start the
activities.

7.3 ISSUES AND CHALLENGE

When we are planning an event, especially involving large events with a large number of
students with our lack of experience, there are so many moving parts when it comes to
successfully pulling it off. The things that makes planning even trickier; every action to be
completed builds off a previous action that needed to be completed before we even think about
moving forward. One simple mistake can set our planning unsuccessful. There are issues and
challenges that the Committee of Tourism (SAP) faced during the “Career Fair” event. The
issues and challenges the committee members faced during the event include:

i. Lack of students involvement

The issues and challenges that we faced are very concerned because our objective is to
engage all final year students in University Malaysia Kelantan (UMK) by opening an
opportunity for them to search an internship placement for industrial training. However, there is
lack of involvement from the students. This caused the event to be empty with only a few student
comes to participate in the event. The companies that willing to come and had been struggling to
attend the event are disappointed because of lack involvement from the students.

The companies did not receive benefit from our event as the staff just sat at their booth
and waited for the students to come and ask them anything regarding the company and the
opportunity for internship placement. Unfortunately, there is less involvement from the students
which may be due to lack of promotion on our event where the students did not get any
information about this event. In addition, this event are held during the hectic week of finishing
assignment where the students are busy preparing assignments from their respective lecturers and
this makes students prefer to complete their assignments first than engaging in the “Career Fair”
event.

ii. Lack of participating companies

There is lack of participating companies during this event. Before “Career Fair” event
were held, we as the committee of Tourism course (SAP) are given two month and entrusted to
search for tourism related company which include travel agency, event management and others.
This issue concerns us as there is less participating companies and most of them are still new in
business. Most of the company rejected our invitation to open a booth during this event due to
lack of staff to be sent to this event, and the busy schedule of the company. With less company
participating in this event, the students also less interested and feel hesitant to join our event as
they feel that there is not much to look for in this event.

Participating companies are also joining this event with intention more to promote their
companies than taking students to do industrial training in their company. Besides that, all the
company that involved in this event are only focusing on the state of Kelantan. This makes the
students that lives outside Kelantan have a difficult decision to apply industrial training in the
company because it is located far away from their home. These issues and challenges also
happen because we do not ask for payments to the companies that want to participate in this
event thus caused the companies involved to be indulgent towards our event.

iii. Last minutes withdrawal from companies

Two month earlier before the “Career Fair” event was held, the committee member under
tourism course (SAP) are required to search for a company and invite them to open a booth in
Dewan Terbuka Keusahawanan (DTK), University Malaysia Kelantan. The company is invited
to explain about their company, the internship opportunity in their company, and employment
opportunity to future graduates. An open interview is conducted for the students that interested to
do industrial training in any companies that comes and the chances to get internship placement
are high.

But, the issues and challenges that we faced are last minutes withdrawal from the
company that had been invited. A day before the “Career Fair” event, over four company stated
their withdrawal from the event due to lacks of staff to be sent to the event and busy with the
Hajj and Umrah pilgrimage. The company schedules are too tight which make them unable to
join the event. This caused the booth set for them are left empty as we already prepared a booth
for them. The withdrawals from the company also make less company participating in the event
which make students choices of company lesser that expected.
iv. Punctuality issues

One of the most frequent issues in every event is the issues of punctuality. There are
some company that come later than the expected and stated time which makes their booth look
empty when the students come. This could make the student lost interest to participate in the
event. The student also might cancel their intention to send the resume and to be interviewed.
The same goes to participant of the event which includes the student. The student also comes late
to the event which makes the event look empty without participant. This also makes the company
that come feel disappointed because the event does not receive a heavy response from students.
If both student and company are punctual, this will make the event run smoothly and lively.

7.3 CHALLENGE AND ISSUE

The first challenge in invited company to attend Career Day program is lateness of
invitation letter. Most of the company request us to send an invitation letter after called them
because the owner of company need invitation letter as a proved that invitation is organizing by
student of University Malaysia Kelantan (UMK) and need to discuss with the human resource
department about the need of empowerment as well as employee who need to send to attend the
program. The lateness of sending invitation letter to the company bring about the inconvenient to
the company in arrange their schedule to attend the program. On account of lateness sending
invitation letter, our team member need to keep contact with the company to updated our
progress and encourage the company to involve in Career Day Program.

The next challenge is scope of invitation the company too small, the scope of company
invitation only at Kota Bharu Area. With no accommodation provided to the employee who
attend to the Career Day Program, our team member can only focus invited the company at Kota
Bharu area in order to convince the company to attend Career Day Program. Some of the
company who come from other state such as Tanah Merah, they need to spent almost one to two
hours short drive to attend this program. If there are accommodation provided, our team member
can also invited the company from Kuala Lumpur or other state, because some of the company is
franchise and their head-quarter is at Kuala Lumpur, they suggest our team to contact with the
head-quarter in order to joint this program.

Thus, because of the limitation of budget, most of the expenses we need to pay by our
own. We need to call company by our own phone money. We went out to Kota Bharu to face to
face invite company, the expenses such as rent car and petrol also as a problem to us as a student.
Sometime, we are facing problem when we go to that company, the company reneged on a deal
that participation on our event. It makes us waste our time and money. In addition, this suppose
is one of the event which hold under University Malaysia Kelantan, but faculty did not give any
financial support to us. This situation was burden students‟ financial.
Last but not least, we just invitation company who at Kota Bharu, it make less company
invite in our event. Moreover, among our students many come some different state in Malaysia.
The company just applies internship in Kota Bharu make the student did not interest on this. For
example, the student from Sarawak did not make the choice internship in Kota Bharu. On that
day, fewer students apply and interest on this internship in Kota Bharu.

7.3 ISSUE AND CHALLENGE

This event was held with two event which is finishing school and Career Day. Every
event held have their own issues and challenges. As for these event, the issue arise regarding lack
in participant due to many students busy with their assignment and could not join this event. On
Career Day, organizer expecting tons of audience coming because that event was held in order to
help final year student to find their place in getting internship placement. Unfortunately, not
many student join the event due to other commitments on classes and group assignment.

Second issue would be the lack of proper marketing or promotion of the event. Any event
would always need and have a good marketing strategy to attract the crowd to attend the event.
However, this issue might have been the reason why there are less audience that coming to
participate. The organizer should have promoting the event more regularly, especially by
publicized it on the social media and mouth-to-mouth. There should be a regular promoting
about the event as a constant reminder for the students. The promoting about the event should be
done until the day of event and while the event is running. The lack of proper marketing might
affect the audience as they probably forgot and not alert about the event.

The next issue is regarding the invitation of the company. On the day of the event, there
are certain company inform that they can‟t attend the event due the particular reason. Hence, the
total of company that has been invited decrease and it make the event less received by the
students because there are a few choices of the company to be chosen. The organizer should put
the deposit on the company after inviting them, so that the company will come and join the event
because they already pay the deposit.

Other than that, the lack of proper tentative and the activities during the event. The
management about the time for the company to set up the booth were influence the time on the
day that the event were running up. During the event, that the organizer has been set up a lot of
activities for the crowd but it‟s can‟t finish the activities because of they had been interrupt by
the emcee for company talk even its not the time for the company to give a speech.

7.3 Issues and Challenges

Budget still remains the biggest issues in the career fair. With tighter budgets, we are
faced with the task of extracting more value of money. Under pressure to make the career fairs
bigger and better for the same or even less budget.

Besides that, the duty of protocol is to foster understanding and cooperation between
individuals, corporations and organizations. Protocol usually organized events that involved
relations with another company. We need to send the invitations and arranges to receive visitors,
while planning for their seating positions. Due to time constraint, we are had some problems in
arranges for the guests especially representative from company which prefer to participate in our
career fair. In additions, we also faced the challenges of short lead times but if faculty can push
budget to be sign off earlier, this additional time can be used effectively to source the most
suitable guests and suppliers to our events.

Moreover, crowd had played a vital issue in career fair. Since our target people in the
career fair is students UMK, we have work hard to push them to visit the career fair in Dewan
Keusahawanan. But due to some issues such as rush to class and pack with other schedule, they
are unable to visit the career fair. When there is no crowd in career fair, the representatives from
the company will quite fed up since they are participate in this events without any charges and
some of them are participate in both days for the career fair. It is considered as our fault because
we are unable to provide crowd to visit their booth.

7.2 TABLE TASK

Teamwork is very important in making an event. Each individual plays an important role
in launching the task. For a group of publicity, group members need to work together to
complete the work given as it is important to complete the task before and during the seminar.
Therefore, in a member of the publicity group is divided into several work assignments given by
the group leader to launch each completed work at the designated time.

As a leader, the responsibility is very heavy. Therefore, as a leader, he should ensure that
each member of the group perform their respective duties. He also needs to regularly monitor the
work of each team member to ensure that they can complete the task at a predetermined time.
The leader also needs to provide assistance and guidance to the group members who are having
problems during the given task. For example, the leader needs to help put banners and bunting,
distributing flyers and spreading social media.

The assistant is a mediator between the members of the group and the leader. He should
ensure every problem faced by the group members and inform the leader immediately. In
addition, he will also replace the position as leader if the group members are having problems
completing their assigned tasks. In addition, the assistant can also relieve the leader's burden as
not all matters should be referred directly by the head but also through his assistant. Thus, the
assistant can solve the problems faced by their group members as important matters for the
ongoing seminar.

Marketing is very important in the success of an event. For members of this group, she
needs to make sure the information about the events will be held up to the public. She also has to
spread the message to the electronic media and print media such as on social networking site like
Facebook and also through flyers or posters before the event. During the event, she will need to
take pictures of important events such as event launching and throughout the event.

For a member who holds a designer, she needs to work hard to produce a design that is
accepted by all the members of each group before announcing the participants. All information
related to seminar events should be placed in banners and bunting. Upon obtaining approval
from the others team, she had to make a deal with a printing shop to book banners and bunting in
terms of price and size. She went to Ummah Advertising shop in Kubang Kerian to book. Once
the order is ready, the banner needs to be installed two weeks before the event.

7.3 ISSUES AND CHALLENGES OF PUBLICITY COMMITTEE AND EVENTS

1. Publicity Committee Coordinating Efforts

Media outreach work should be coordinated with other parts of the sister city organization. For
example, if a large auction is being planned as a Fundraising Committee wants the Publicity
Committee to issue a news release about it, they should discuss issuing the release ahead of time.
You do not want to have multiple press releases being issued at the same time from different
parts of the same organization - this creates potential for confusion and the news media may not
understand who to contact about the event. Deadlines should be clearly published so individuals
working in different parts of your organization know when to send information in for a
newsletter or e-newsletter. Contact information for submissions should be clear. It is often very
convenient to ask sister city committees to send updates to an e-mail address electronically, so
they do not have to be re-typed. In many organizations, it can be difficult to get spontaneous
submissions for newsletter articles. Often a Publicity Committee will have several members
assist its newsletter editor or graphic artist with rounding up newsletter articles.

2. Publicity Committee Materials

Sometimes it is lack of publicity committee materials like runner or other committee that free at
sometimes to help us, it is important and often helpful to keep a notebook for the Publicity
Committee that holds minutes, member contact information, a copy of every press release issued,
and copies of all printed publications and materials. This can be organized a variety of ways, and
provides continuity as committee leadership changes. Folders or notebooks can also be
distributed to all the committee members if desired.

3. Publicity Committee Meetings

The committee meetings must be attend for everyone especially us who lead and in charge this
career fair, it is important to do a meetings that schedule committee meetings when most people
can attend. Start a meeting with a brief icebreaker so people can get to know more about each
other. An agenda should be drawn up by the chair and followed. Minutes or notes should be
taken. In this day and age, it is very easy for notes summarizing a meeting to be sent via e-mail
to all of the committee members after the meeting, and this keeps absent members connected to
what is going on. Your committee may want to meet monthly, bimonthly, quarterly, or
biannually. How often your committee meets is contingent upon how active your organization is
and how frequently your committee members communicate in between meetings.

7.2 Table Task

Mohammad Faridzuan bin mohd Hanafiah (Head of Technical Committee)

As a head of technical committee in Career Day Event, I need to handle the infrastructure in the
place of the event which is in Dewan Keusahawanan Terbuka. Besides, I have to arrange the
layout plan in this area. I have to meet and discuss with the infrastructure officer of Universiti
Malaysia Kelantan about the use of the P.A systems, table and chair while that event was
progresses. For example, the layout of all activities or games that involve in this event.

Muhamad Khairul Fazrin bin Bahari (Member of Technical Committee)

As a member of technical committee, I need to take over the P.A. system while that event was
progresses. My responsibility is to control the sound system, so the environment of that event
will be fill by a good melody. I also need to help the arrangement of the layout plan in Dewan
Keusahawanan Terbuka. For example, the layout of all activities or games that involve in this
event.
Muhamad Amirul bin Suhaimi (Member of Technical Committee)

As a member of technical committee, I need to cover the sound system which is handling the
laptop and choosing the good melody during the event. I also need to help the arrangement of the
layout plan in Dewan Keusahawanan Terbuka. For example, the layout of all activities or games
that involve in this event.

Mohd Zarriq Taqiyuddin bin Sabahar (Member of Technical Committee)

As a member of technical committee, I need to covering the management of layout during the
event. This is because to simply the participants to get some space while get the interview
session. I also need to help the arrangement of the layout plan in Dewan Keusahawanan Terbuka.
For example, the layout of all activities or games that involve in this event.

Nurul Idayu bt Manusi (Member of Technical Committee)

As a member of technical committee, I need to write the report for our event. All the thing that
occurred before, during and after the event, I need to write it as a report. I need to observe
everything which happened during the event progresses.

7.3 Issue and Challenges

Every organisation have their issues and challenges while handle a program or event. It‟s
already be a habit of every organisation to take their risk and challenges before, while or after
that event was progresses. In my opinion, the issues and challenges while handling this event are
in finance factor, time management factor and skill factor.

The first issues and challenges is finance factor. While handling this event, we doesn‟t
have sponsorship from any department whereby UMK also doesn‟t provide the capital to us. So
all of the costing is using from all member which participate at this event. For the finance of
technical committee, we need to pay the rent of the table. This is because the table while this
event can‟t using the table of any class of UMK because the UMK‟s officer of infrastructure has
told me that the table was using while examination. So, they don‟t want to take any risks to
borrowing it to us. Then, we need to use our collection of money from students that handling this
event.
Next, the issues and challenges is the time management factor. As the final year student,
we doesn‟t have much time in our schedule because of the final year project and others tasks. So,
the spending a bit of time to have a meeting and discussion of infrastructure‟s officer is very
hard. The officer of infrastructure also involve many event in UMK this semester. Then, it‟s a bit
hard to find the officer when we have a bit free time.

Lastly, the issues and challenges is the skill factor. We doesn‟t have any technical skill
while have been choosing as the committee. So, it is a bit hard to handling the technical systems
while the event progresses. We need to learn the P.A. system from other student that have that
skill because the lack of time of the infrastructure‟s officer to teach us. Next, we also doesn‟t
know to use the application to sketch the layout in this event. So, it‟s a bit hard to sketch out the
layout without know to use any application in gadget likes laptop or handphone.

7.3 ISSUES AND CHALLENGES

1. Student anxiety about not being able to find a job and for internship

Students are in one of the most difficult jobs in memory market. As my colleague once said,
"Let's all hope for the best and ready for the worst." This is because it is important to let students
know that you understand how their feelings and their concerns are normal. It is important to
gain their own beliefs. However, it encourages students to transform their emergencies into
positive by providing thought and acting deliberately in their job search and smart career
management. They need to be ready in whatever future ahead without complaining.

All students should know all the situations they need to face by giving them know what you have
planned for that year on their behalf. Give positive reports to students so they can see their
performance from time to time. This should be repeated by offering and reminding students how
you can help, focusing on how to make the most of everything you offer. Always give students
opportunities in any field. Build perspective and context by sending a message that career
changes for life. What the student does or does not do after graduation is just one stop along the
path they will make for themselves which is they should not feel pressure to reach the
culmination of immediate success. Some of the specific initiatives we tried at Stanford were
enlisting student “buddies,” second-year students who mentored first-year students in their job
searches. We also facilitated weekly career action groups for those who wanted to drop in for
support and to share news of job leads and successes. For those who were feeling discouraged,
Friday afternoon milk-and-cookie breaks lifted spirits.

2. Some students’ unrealistic expectations that you should do most of the work and
place them in jobs

Communication services are advised to be more attentive and consistent to strengthen this
message through your words and actions. Communicate that you offer career management
services, expertise, and support. It's important with your presence there to help students. But in
the end, students have their careers and are responsible for managing them themselves. So, from
here we see how important this seminar is to students who want to step into the workplace.

Make your services known, empowering, and accessible so that students can put in the work
their job searches and career management require. For example, you might offer job postings
online and send a link to students via email for easy access. The students have to follow up on
the leads, but you have made this easier for them.

One way to engage students in their job searches is to agree to fund and oversee a career fair
targeted to a specific sector the students are interested in, on the condition that the students
organize and run the fair. After the fair, you can let other students know what students at the fair
did and which of your services they utilized to land interviews and get job offers.

3. Students who don’t take advantage of what you have to offer

One way to get students to use this services is to market to them. Another is to enlist students
who have benefited from this services as “career services ambassadors” who share their positive
experiences with other students.
To market this services to students and generate interest, provide a master calendar of everything
planned for the year at the beginning of the year and then give quarterly updates. Offer weekly
newsletters online or in print that include such important information as which companies are
recruiting on campus; a schedule of upcoming workshops, events, and programs; details about
on-campus interviewing; various deadlines; career-related student initiatives and how to get
involved; and a sampling of new job postings.

4. A handful of students who may be alienating recruiters or hurting the university's

reputation

Although this particular issue tends to be less of a problem now than in booming job markets,
many university face this challenge. Dealing with the issue constructively requires skillful
management. We are not the police or our students‟ parents, so don‟t try to put ourself in either
of those roles. The organizer best approach is to treat students as adults and encourage them to
take responsibility for their relationships with the university and recruiters and work to
strengthen, not damage, their personal networks.

To curb or prevent potentially damaging behavior, you might institute a student-elected and
governed committee to establish and uphold a “code of conduct” for student behavior toward
each other, recruiters, and the career services staff. When we formed such a committee at
Stanford, students monitored and dealt with violations; for example, missing an interview, being
a no-show to a recruiting function, or reneging on an offer might be penalized with a loss of
recruiting privileges. Some schools have tried a rather extreme tactic, public “outing”; they list
the names of students and the specific infraction on a bulletin board for all to see.

Another way to handle this sticky wicket is by being straight with students in your various town
hall meetings, newsletters, one-on-ones, and other communications. Without naming names or
blaming, you could point out how specific student behavior, such as being unprepared for
interviews, being arrogant to a recruiter, or being a no-show to an event, has led to negative
feedback from a recruiter, recruiter dissatisfaction, or even the loss of a recruiting relationship.
Reinforce the message that one person‟s behavior can and does impact the whole school
community.
5. Not enough time, money, or resources

One of the common refrains I hear from colleagues is that they don‟t have enough time or money
to do what they want to do. To address this problem, organizer could try some creative options,
such as outsourcing some of their work overflow by tapping into the pool of competent,
experienced people who would be willing to volunteer their time. Alumni, out-of-work but
highly competent recruiters, HR professionals, and industry executives could assist you by, for
example, critiquing résumés, offering career advice, performing outreach or marketing for your
office, refining your communications or feedback surveys, redesigning your website, or mock-
interviewing your students. Volunteers can be insightful teachers for some of your workshops
and can organize panels of experts. Current students, as busy as they are with their own job
searches, are often willing to augment your staff and resources, too.

7.3 ISSUE AND CHALLENGES

Among the challenges faced by us as the Runner Committee Members it was difficult to
get visitors while the event was running in two days at Universiti Malaysia Kelantan, City
Campus. Due to the difficulty of getting the guests of the event was rather bleak and uninhibited
for not receiving the response from Universiti Malaysia Kelantan students themselves. This
might be caused by us as an organizer being late to promote the event and might be overlapping
date with other programs on the campus area. In addition, other students have a fairly compact
class schedule and they cannot attend our event on that day at Dewan Terbuka Keusahawanan,
City Campus. When a Runner Committee Members invites those students in the library and
around the campus area to come and join the event, they said they were busy and did not want to
be disturbed. And the others said that the companies who were came did not meet the course
specifications they take at the university.

Secondly, there was an issue of getting parking in University Malaysia Kelantan area.
Some staffs from companies that coming to this events were facing the problem of getting
parking lots because of the parking lots were limited. As the runner committee, we were trying to
help them to solve this problem. Since the parking lots were limited, we had to find parking lots
at the area that far away from the event hall. When they parked their transports far away from the
hall, it was a bit difficult for them to bring lots of their equipment such as banner, personal
computer and other stuff to the hall as some of the stuff were heavy. As the place of event take
place which is Dewan Terbuka Keusahawanan was located deep in the campus, the company
staffs had to walk for a long distance while bringing their stuff to that hall. What the right is it
supposed to prepare special parking lot to the company staff as there were very important person
(VIP) that were invited to this event.
Apart from the challenges mentioned above, the challenges faced during the seminar
were that there was no co-operation between the Runner Committee Members and the other
committees. Thus, each member focused only on the committees held by them without giving
any commitment to the other committees. However, there are also committee members who help
each other to solve the problem. As a team that wants to make a successful event, it should have
a strong cooperation so that the event went smoothly and perfectly. In addition, cooperation
should be given to create a team work in the event and to deal with problems and any constraints
arising. Even though there was still have challenge to be encountered during the event but the
event was still running smoothly and all the shortcomings can be overcome.
8.0 CONCLUSION

In conclusion, the Career Fair is purposely to open the opportunity for final year students
of Universiti Malaysia Kelantan to meet with employers in an informal setting and learn more
about job and internship opportunities offered by companies, government agencies, and non-
profit organizations where you might like to work or internship.

The objective of this event is to introduce students to careers that related to their
coursework and to help them identify the key skills needed in order to become a successful
professional. Provide students with opportunities to develop skills in communication, self‐
presentation, and networking, which will prepare them for job interviews and other professional
interactions. Make personal contacts that can lead to a job and gather the information from
potential employers.

Career Fair program is not focusing on the talk, but we provided chance for student to
know more about work opportunity. We are inviting around 20 companies to promote their
company. This is because all this companies are in the same sector, and need to compete each
other to attract the students

Other than that, this program can help the student to know the advantage and
disadvantage working on this tourism and hospitality sector. This is because, what the
company‟s provided to the workers will be different from other companies. As example,
accommodation, salary and others. So, the student can prepare mentally and physically in order
to face the future.

The activities that fill up for this event progresses is Debate show, 3R program, Mistery
Box Games, and talk by the company. All of this activities is to attract all of the student in UMK
to visiting Dewan Keusahawanan Terbuka (DTK) to join all interview session from the company
that we invites. The first activity in this event is Debate show. This activity is to gain the
student‟s knowledge about the current issues that will be a trend nowadays.
